Our good friends Brian Selter at The New York Times is reporting that his old pal Keith Olbermann has gotten a new contract which extends Olbermann past the 2012 election and about doubles his current salary.
MSNBC essentially tore up his Feb. 2007 contract (reportedly worth up to $4 million a year) and wrote a new one, according to two employees with knowledge of the agreement. The new contract is valued at about $7.5 million a year, one of the people said.Mr. Olbermann will continue to anchor “Countdown” and co-host NBC’s “Football Night in America.” Reinforcing Mr. Olbermann’s value to MSNBC, the network said he would “play a prominent role” in “all major news events.”
Olbermann must truly have the faith of the network to be given an extended contract and a raise just when his favorite toy has been taken away, that being the Bush Administration. Will Olbys audience be satisfied with a much leaner cut of red meat for the next 4+years?
How many "Special Komment"s will he deliver on the "minority whip"?
Olby will have to go to the well of his old tried and true for his shows...Bill O'Reilly.
Ed Morrisey has it right when he posts over at HOTAIR:
"Basically, MS-NBC wants to set itself up as the Temple of The One, where Olbermann attacks all Obama critics and Chris Matthews works on his propaganda to do everything he can to help Obama succeed. Howard Kurtz finds that a strange job description even for an opinion journalist:
"'You know what?' MSNBC’s Chris Matthews said last week. 'I want to do everything I can to make this thing work, this new presidency work.' Asked by morning host Joe Scarborough whether that was his job, Matthews said: 'Yeah, that’s my job, because this country needs a successful presidency more than anything right now.'
"'Funny — it’s hard to recall many journalists saying they wanted to make Ronald Reagan’s or George W. Bush’s presidency work.'
"Never fear! As long as at least some of the True Believers are still willing to tune into BO-NBC, the suits will be willing to have its high priests speaking to the masses — and pay them ever more to continue the services at the temple."

Yep, those like Olbermann and Matthews who are romantically and fanatically attached to the left's crusade towards utopia have their date with destiny!
VERO POSSUMUS!
Wow. That's a lot of money to pay a cheerleader.
Maybe now he, Precious Perfect and his mother can move into that condo on Upper East Side.
NBC is pathetic. Their two top journalists are the biggest mockery of journalism I've ever seen. New Murrow indeed. OH and Why is olby getting a raise when he can't even beat out his female doppelganger in the ratings??
Wait until Keith sees how that "Obama Tax Cut" starts working its magic and Keith is paying 50-70% of his salary to fund "the greater good".

Unbelievable. Again, thinking Sarah Palin, a college graduate and well vetted Governor, did not know Africa is a contininent is typical of the nutty leftwing.....so full of hatred and venom.
TRUTH in the age of the church of SNOBamessiah!

I'd like to believe that KO will be one of those more patriotic individuals who will be quite proud to sacrifice a little extra to help fund the greater good in a society that helped to make him into what he is.
That kind of thinking is what made America great in the days of old before greed and personal selfishness became a virtue in an economy that was driven by debt.
NBC just keeps of giving in the STUPID department.....thanks for the documentation, NEWSBUSTERS.....
Chris Matthews Calls Africa a 'Country'
"CHRIS MATTHEWS: I've got to go to Larry first. You've got to answer this question, sir. Is this person unaware of basic grade-school information, like, Africa is a country of 57-or-so countries, it is not a country, it's a continent? South Africa is a country, not a region.

What a bunch of morons. First they report that the hoax claiming to be the McCain campaign leaker of all the Palin gossip....now Matthews "IT'S MY JOB TO MAKE OBAMA A SUCCESSFUL PRESIDENT" makes the same rhetorical error Palin reportedly made but the kooky leftists like MikeH believe she really thinks Africa is a country.....
THE AGE OF THE CHURCH OF SNOBAMESSIAH......WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE!......

Before WWI, there wasn't even such a thing as a consistent federal income tax. When revenue was needed, tax rates never exceeded single digits.
We threw tea over for burdens far less than what is being imposed now. It's called soft socialism - a form of governance that never existed "in the days of old".
If one were to fabricate a different America than what actually exists in the history books, I would suggest they grow a brain.
By some measures, we'd be the mostest patriotickest if we gave all of our earnings to the state. (Hint: You can already do that now. It is legal to do so!)
Let's just go full-fledged socialist/communist, and cut to the chase: Our money isn't ours. It is better handled by the state.
It is those on the fringe elements who think that American history finally began with the "Progressive Era". A time when Liberal no longer meant "Free", but instead inferred "a fascist social good engineered from the State". It is only these fringe elements that would have the audacity to infer that to express discontent with one's tax burden is somehow unpatriotic.
Absurd. But also a sign of the times.
Thomas Jefferson:
"To take from one, because it is thought his own industry and that of his father has acquired too much, in order to spare to others who (or whose fathers) have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association, "to guarantee to everyone a free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it."
.....the days of old, indeed.....

What a lousy selfish SOB that Jefferson was according to the church of SNOBamessiah zealots like Grandpa Biden & MikeH.

Wow GE is stupid. Their stock is falling down the rat whole and yet they are paying this moron twice is salary to be the cheerleader for the man who will become the worst president in Amercian history? They better hope this National Socialist has big brother take over GE.
Isn't NBC in the process of cutting staff to cut the budget and now they offer this clown 7.5 million? Those people losing jobs must really love the guy who speaks truth to power.
Who refuses to vote because that would alter his objectivity. Do people really buy this?

Well, his idiot fans probably buy it and like Olbermann, himself, think it's just one more quirky adorable aspect of his personality and one that's revealing of his innate respect for the tenets of his profession.
Everyone else thinks he's just a smug posturing self-serving idiot.
You forgot cradle robber.
Why isn't there a catchy term like "cougar" to apply to men (as there is with women) that are too immature to date women of their own age?
There is.
It's called "middle-aged male".
7.5 million - are they paying him by the pound?
Cee: "It's only these fringe elements that would have the audacity to infer that to express discontent with one's tax burden is somehow unpatriotic."
Well Gee Cee (pun intended), .... You've yet to explain how NOT paying sufficient taxes is patriotic at a time when your country is going bankrupt?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cee on Palin: "kooky leftists like MikeH believes she really thinks Afirica is a country......"
Here is ANOTHER example of Cee's legendary dishonesty.........He just attributed a belief to me that I don't have nor have I expressed.
Cee, do you lie about patients you don't like too?
The word "like" makes a difference MikeH missed, just as he misses so much and continues his odyssey of hypocrisy here at OW......
I recall MikeH arguing that it was patriotic to point out the failings and policy mistakes of one's country. I suppose now that is no longer a belief with regards to fiscal discipline and the confiscation of the citizen's hard earned money.
Funny how that changed so quickly.
And the fear message MikeH employs to try to demogogue the argument.....the word "bankrupt." Ah, yes, I hear those government checks are bouncing and the dollar cannot be used to obtain goods and services....yep, the country is bankrupt, sure.....
Look at history dear MikeH. In relation to GDP and considering inflation, look at how the spending of the government has risen (and include those pesky entitlements in your research) and tell me what the real problem is.....And the democrats are offerring NO reduction in spending, in fact are ready, if the church of SNOBamessiah election promises are any guide, there will be more government programs requiring money.....
And MikeH says the nation is bankrupt.....he'd better inform SNOBamessiah who does not believe this and is ready to spend like a drunken sailor.....
Including bailing out automotive companies that are still being run like it is 1978......
VERO POSSUMUS!
Lets summerize about Cee:
1) - Cee obviously doesn't understand the meaning of the word "bankrupt".
2) - Cee thinks it's OK to lie about someone's beliefs as long as he inserts the word "like". It's that guilt by association thing, I guess?
3) - Cee is busy trashing the democrats who are not even in power yet about spending, but he never criticized Bush and the republicans for creating the tax and spend mess in which we now find ourselves mired.
4) - Cee still doesn't understand that UNREGULATED runaway free markets is exactly the thing that has led us to the point in which the government is being forced to bail out corporations. It will happen every time.
5) - While Cee is NOW expressing alarm about governmant spending, he ignors the fact that the REPUBLICANS are the ones who presided over the biggest gains in government spending in history. Cee might have some credibility if he had been complaining about this all along, but until this year, GW Bush was his unassaillable hero.
6) - Cee continues to argue that personal selfishness among wealthy individuals is patriotic. This is one of the strangest arguments the republicans have ever advanced,.....especially the ones who thin they are following Christian principles.
7) - Cee apparently hasn't heard yet that the MAJORITY of the top 5% of earners voted for Obama, therefore refuting any notion that most wealthy Americans are so unpatriotic that they would continue to consider their own self interest above their country's.
To review, .... UNCONTROLLED capitalism will eventually ALWAYS lead to a backlash that includes excessive socialism and control. Too bad we have to keep learning this lesson over and over.
Cee: "Including bailing out automotive companies that are still being run like it is 1978....."
And WHY is that happening?
During the beginning of the SUV craze, I recall listening to republican demogogues like Rush Limbaugh during the 1990's when SOME responsible liberal voices were suggesting that people shouldn't buy these vehicles unless they really needed them. Limbaugh and others conrinually ridiculed these people by suggesting that consumers should not consider ANYTHING other than 'do you want it, and can you afford it'....'if so, go for it'. THAT was the prevailing attitude coming from the right about automobiles. According to them, we need not consider fuel consumption OR environmental impact on any of our personal decisions. They even passed huge small business tax incentives for buying the heaviest SUVs.
With a prevailing attitude like THAT, how in the hell did you think the auto companies were going to react to it?
Government DOES have a responsibilty to provide moral leadership. We have had 8 years of a president advocating personal selfishness as a goal without even a single instance of advocating that the individual do ANYTHING to help promote the common good. Cee, The very leaders who you kept calling "honorable" are the very same 'leaders' who have deposited our nation squarely in the mud.
Yet you still think the problem is the Democrats!
"UNREGULATED runaway free markets is exactly the thing that has led us to the point in which the government is being forced to bail out corporations."
What a bunch of unsubstantiated and simplistic hooey.
The government is not being forced. Policymakers and politicians are DECIDING on throwing federal money at problems that should be allowed to take their natural course....pain and all. The only exceptions are those that will cause panic and runs on banks that are needed to provide liquidity......Otherwise, people should sleep in the beds they made for themselves....they will come out stronger on the otherside and will have learned a valuable lesson.
Our economy is very much "regulated" and has been for decades.
Government subsidized companies like Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, and with supposed oversight, got into trouble under DEMOCRAT CONTROL, with democrats who supported and advised Obama and who are even going to serve in his cabinet were present when they cooked their books! Please, the blame for this mess is NONPARTISAN.
The SEC and Federal Reserve has been active in our economy for decades. This is not the gilded age at the end of the 19th Century, this is a very litigious and big government reliant America that cannot seem to keep its priorites straight in regards to personal savings, personal responsiblity and accepting the consequences of the decisions individuals make, including forclosure on very big and expensive houses that people were never making the income to support.
The church of SNOBamessiah and the empty suit leader is the perfect result of such non-reality based attitudes that have resulted in the financial crisis we are now seeing.
With regards to GM.....
No, MikeH, the company, its shareholders, its customers and even its employees have made poor choices OVER DECADES that have brought them to this place. These people are democrats, they are republicans, they are poor, they are rich, they are SUV drivers, they are hybrid drivers, and they are people who have benefitted financially for years just to come to this moment and pay for their previous good times....
And it should not come from the federal treasury.
Your view of the world is VERY simplistic, as is your church's. The church of SNOBamessiah sees a CONSTITUENCY that is fearful of GM going bankrupt and actually having to reorganize to FINALLY live in reality. This is not a company that, if it fails, will cause a run on the banks....it is a car manufacturer that, although a very large and influential company, has the resources to do as any other failed company could do, and that is to pay their debts, sell assets and come out the other side.
Fine, give tax breaks, perhaps help with their pension promises and healthcare, provide the unemployment aid that has been an important safety net for our fellow citizens.....but a blind bailout like SNOBamessiah wants so as to wave a magic wand....sorry.....no.
So MikeH, I sit back and watch the ol' Democrat party idea that throwing money at a problem will solve it and laugh....Why? Because this bailout craze is going to force SNOBamessiah to do many things....
Break his promise to provide tax cuts to 95% of tax payers.
Break his promise to balance the budget.
Break his promise to insure all Americans have healthcare.
Break his promise not to raise taxes on people only making 250,000/year or more.
This new leader will do what the old leaders (The Democrat Congress and the Republicans did)....spend money foolishly. This is change?
Sure it is.....keeping telling yourself that. If Obama with Reid and Pelosi bailout GM, it only proves that NOTHING has changed in Washington and we are falling into the old solutions that actually will put the US is a worse position than it already is in.
But I did not expect anything else from The One. Lipstick on a pig.
Cee: Regarding the car companies, it's funny how you choose to place ALL of the blame on the corporations that failed to accurately predict the future, while absolving the REPUBLICAN encouraged CULTURE that encouraged excessive fuel consumption and anti-green policies. They may shoulder half the blame, but to demonize them because they resonded by supplying the outdated products that YOUR party encouraged consumers to buy is a total cop out. I don't know a single company out there who doesn't resond to the the laws of supply and demand.
As for Obama and the democrats, it's high time that you let them fail and stop blaming them for failure before they've even taken charge. I know that it's difficult for you to blame your own party (the one that actually DID fail), and much easier to look ahead and blame them for 'failing', when the actual challenge for the democrats is to engineer a recovery from YOUR leader's policy that has created the current failure.
Cee, Obama is NOT president yet........That said, I look foward to a president who speaks to US.......A president that uses his bully pulpit to tell us what we need to do......A president who will tell us how to help, and not just tell us to go shopping.....A president who is unafraid and fully capable of thinking things through, and not just reacting......A president who understands that we cannot live beyond our means indefinitely......A president who understands that he must lead the way both ethically and morally.....We don't have that president just yet......but we will in about 65 more days!
The good news for Obama is that the bar of presidential competance is now set so incredibly low that it will be no challenge at all for him to clear it, but I think he is going to ignore this low standard and show us once again what a president CAN be!
Posted like a true church of SNOBamessiah fanatic.....
No substance, no specifics, attempts to lower expectations and redefine what "success" really is......it remains SNOBamessiah's promise to lower taxes on 95% of tax payers and leave tax rates the same on those making less than 250K....trying to make him a savior will hit the cold reality of politics and clear thinking Americans will see the age old bait & switch......
the church members like MikeH, 20% of the electorate, will never be able to freely think of such a reality.....as usual.
VERO POSSUMUS!
Cee: "The church members like MikeH, 20% of the electorate, will never be able to freely think of such a reality....as usual."
Since the statement you made in reference to that quote was about as clear as mud (as usual), I will simply use it to remind even those on your side, who might also not appreciate you calling OUR new elected president childish names, that you are nothing if not a whiner....and that you see fit to be a patriot only when our government suits your own selfish personal fancy.
Yet another typical post from the resident church of SNOBamessiah fanatic.....
You are one dull knife, MikeH. Read it all and see I have contempt for the minority of his supporters, like you, who have bought into the religiosity and worthless thematics of what I deride as the church of SNOBamessiah. As the president elect continues to dabble in the cult of personality, he will continue to create a backlash.
His promises are waiting to be filled, although you seem to think that may not be important.
Most cultists overlook their leader's dishonesty, and you have started doing that already. Now Bill Ayers is quoted as saying he and Obama are "family friends," putting your characterizations of the relationship as potential lies....oh the wisdom of the church of SNOBamessiah seems suspect!
What fun the next two years will be.....all hail The One!
