This is tonight's open thread for tonight's Hour of Spin. We need you to document the lies of the infamous, deplorable Keith Olbermann. Watch Oralmann if you dare, and do your recapping right here. Comments are open!
#5: Olby's back and starts layering it on thick right off the bat, but let's start with this nugget from his discussion with the Wolffe-man about the Obama cabinet:
Keith-O states: "... for those of us who favor a progressive point of view ..."
Kinda getting further from that "I'm not a liberal. I'm an American" declarative, eh? Emboldened by Obama, and biased to the last. That's Olbermann in a nutshell
"Bushed": Olbermann really has gall on this one. He slams the Bush administration for knowing in January 2006 about warnings of the impending mortgage meltdown.
Of course, Olbermann doesn't bother mentioning how the "no money down mortgages" were cornerstones of Carter and Clinton economic policies. Or that Republican legislation in 2005 (co-sponsored by McCain) to rein in Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae was blocked by financial committee Democrats such as Barney Frank. Nor did Olbermann bother showing video of Frank and other Dems stating "there is no problem" and even praising Freddie and Fannie. Or that video of Frank from July 2008 saying investments in Fannie and Freddie would be fine going forward as his committee would be doing a few things.
This latter tape was the infamous clip that led to the Frank-O'Reilly shouting match, which to my knowledge Olbermann never bothered to mention, or use as an excuse to name O'Reilly WPITW. I guess Olby's potential zingers get muted when the truth gets in the way.
Instead he throws out this cherry-picked memo, ignoring the larger truth and once again demonstrating his extreme (and dangerous) myopia.
When will Obama be arrested for war crimes? Obama is keeping troops in Iraq and has hired evil Neo-Con Robert Gates and his defense secretary. It apears that Obama will continue the evil warmongering of war criminal bush against the helpless freedom fighters in Iraq.
#2: The Olbermann Enemies List moment:
First he picks on George Will for saying that 94% of the economy seems secure. I think he's picking his ideas from here:
http://thinkprogress.org/2008/11/30/george-will-economy-positive/
Then two more slams on O'Reilly.
As worser, it's a bit strange, since he doesn't attack O'Reilly for anything Billo did per se, but he quotes a Michael Wolff book about Rupert Murdoch in which Wolff claims Murdoch and the execs at Fox News hate O'Reilly, but put up with him because he makes money (kind of like how Olbermann has taken over MSNBC?). So this is just a convenient excuse for Olbermann to repeat some muckraking about O'Reilly, and to plug tomorrow's special guest ... MICHAEL WOLFF (in a segment no doubt already scripted to slam Fox News as much as possible).
Then, as Worst, O'Reilly again, for apparently contradicting himself about the separation of church and state. In an interview with Newsday the other day, O'Reilly says he's a secular guy. Olbermann then reads a quote from 2003 in which O'Reilly says the separation of church and state is bogus. Olbermann also uses the occasion to call O'Reilly's book "A Bold Fresh Piece of Hypocrisy," then says the book is BS cuz O'Reilly's "hardscrabble" upbringing wasn't as hard as he jokes about it being.
Hard to pin down a true rip-and-read source on this one, but I did find this:

Here's the original Newsday report on O'Reilly:

Keith's level of maturation
Is a Palin infatuation
Like a weird teenager
On Seinfeld they'd wager
Keith losing from masturbation
Damn he is getting rotund!
Last night on football he seemed like the kid who hangs around but nobody wants to talk with...
Tonight...if anyone wanted to really know about what is going on in the world...they wouldn't have found any real information on Countdown...tonight.....Thanksgiving night....last Wednesday night.....He must be seething as he watches the hated Clintonistas take over Obama's eventual presidency.
I noticed when they take the 'back shot' he was fat rolls on the back of his head. He really is a fat head.
Proven Liar Keith Olbermann wrings his hands about how US "torture" of "freedom fighters" needs to stop immediately but fails to tell us how Obamanation is going to do that by re-hiring Bush's defense secretary Robert Gates. In fact Keith Olbermann fails to bring up the appointment of Robert Gates. Speaking for civil liberties, Obama has appointed as head of his justice department, a man who ordered Elian Gonzales to be taken at gun point against a court order.
Olbermann now only has Sarah Palin to attack so attack he did. Why, she dared campaign for Sax B. Chamblis in Georgia. Well Sax is winning, and guessed who didn't have the guts to go down to Georgia and campaign for his opponent? You guessed it, Olbermann's President Barak Obama.
Olbermann may have tried to downplay the retention of Gates, but I'm sure he couldn't have been thrilled to hear Richard Wolffe declare that keeping Gates validates Bush's judgment.
Stick to the script, Richard! I hope they're not paying you in oil!
Was away for awhile exercising my second amendment rights during the annual Bambi fest in the north woods. Good to get back and still see some excellent and intelligent commentary.
Caught the No 1 story against Palin. You could tell he was really pissed that Obama didn't go down to Georgia. Miss Smily his guest (what the hell is her name? Margaret something) said it was all about showing some non-partisanship. Thought KO would call for Elizabeth when he heard that and his ticker was about to explode.
Right after, he introduced Mr. Maddow. First thing out of her mouth was a personal survey that indicated the stock market swings depending on who (someone from current administration or Obamasan) had the pulpit that day. She was very serious about it. Even justified the downturn today because even though Obama had the pulpit for the day he "didn't discuss the economy".
These people are unreal. Politics their way is clearly the new religion. God help the rest of us.
Um didn't everyone know about the looming Mortage Crisis in 2006?
I bought my house in 2005 and even then my realitor was talking about how 2006 might be a sign of hard times coming. See what benefits Bathtub Boy has for not living in the real world. Memos and Blue Blog sources carry more weight than actually living in the real world seeing these things first hand.
Also BOR showed Goerge Snufflupolis praising the increase in the market last week to Obama...only to see it drp 600 some points today.
So far I see a pattern here for the left-wing media in the next 4 years. Stock Market up, it's all Obama. Stock Market Down, it's Bushes fault.
Ratings report for Nov. 26.
Yes, this was the day before Thanksgiving, so viewership was down. But Olby was on the air with a new show, and the O'Reilly factor offered a retrospective of the best of Dennis Miller, I believe.
8PM - P2+ (25-54) (35-64)
The O’Reilly Factor Classic—2,174,000 viewers (545,000) (929,000)
Campbell Brown—1,330,000 viewers (456,000) (534,000)
Countdown w/Keith Olbermann– 1,640,000 viewers (532,000) (783,000)
Dirty Money- 350,000 viewers (158,000) (154,000)

Olby gets his clock cleaned yet again. The Propaganda/Palin show just isn't selling

I see the slam on Bush over the mortgage crisis as a bit akin to slamming the Bush administration for the "Bin Laden determined to attack within the United States" memo. Well, Duh!
Saying Bin Laden was determined to attack within the U.S. is like ESPN reporting that the Dodgers are keen on defeating the Giants. Why would such a report be such a shock? "Hey, we got a report that this bad guy who hates us and already bombed the World Trade Center once might want to conduct a terror strike within the U.S."
Sure there were lapses in the security net that failed to prevent 911. But to pin it on one note that states the obvious is idiotic.
Unfortunately it has become fashionable to pin all the world's ills on George W. Bush. Convenient scapegoat. Especially when it comes time to assign blame for Obama's (inevitable) mistakes.
Looking at those ratings, it's hard to tell when KO was #1 in the almighty 25-54 demo. I clicked on the BOR vs KO hotlink on the side.
I know it sounds crazy, but it seems BOR has been beating KO like a red-headed stepchild ever since Bill called out Neilson on the numbers.
I know that was a strech when he did that, but I can't think it's just a coincidence that he's back to dominating. He even beat Spongbob one week.
That was in total viewers, a category where BOR always beats KO; no exceptions.
Thanks again for you recap, America47000.
Olbermann (and Maddow) experienced a ratings surge in the week prior to the election, with its peak coming with that Obama half-hour special. So clearly it was due to leftists who were getting excited about the election when it looked as if Obama would win. These viewers weren't interested in news, but the feel-good rush of a shared delusion. Now that Obama has been elected, they don't care about the nitty gritty details that Olbermann seems devoted to covering. Nor does anyone care about Sarah Palin as much, except for Olbermann.
Truth be told, O'Reilly just has a better show. The segments are more interesting, the discussions are edgier, and O'Reilly's opinions aside, it's much more balanced (sorry, DailyKos).
Maddow, as annoying as she is, seems to be better situated to stand out in the Obama world, since she at least offers guests with dissenting views.
"Truth be told, O'RFeilly just has a better show. The segments are more interesting,"
I just love it when someone states personal opinion as "Truth".

That's like Dillenger saying he hates bank robbers.

You forgot to add that O'Reilly states the facts first before he gives his opinions, as opposed to lying first and then embellishing on the lie.
I got a kick out of KO screaming about the torturing thing at GITMO and then throwing it at Bill Krystal about it. DUH Keith, how do you think we get info out on prisoners? Showing them clips of your show and your "son" Maddow? Well, that might do it for me, but you're against beating and all that...ok fine, there are alternatives. A little known thing called Sodium Pendathal (aka - truth serium) that will get it out of them.
My God you've become such an obnoxious buffoon since your "boy" won the election back in November. If you're going to be like this for the next four years, it's going to so damned easy to rail on you, so be prepared bathtub boy.
Bill *Kristol*.
Mike H: 'I just love it when someone states personal opinion as "Truth".'
That's why you're such an Olbermann fan
