This is the recappers' comment thread for tonight's Hour of Spin.It falls on you--the clear-thinking readers of Olbermann Watch--to document Oralmann's diseased rantings for posterity. Be an Olbermann Watch blogger--without all the muss and fuss! Comments are open!
I just caught Joseph Goebbels Olbermann's segment on interrogation. For the second time this week, Propaganda Ministry Olbermann called for the prosecution of all the soldiers/agents who used "torture" against terrorists- whose reason for living is to kill as many Americans as possible.
Minister Olbermann, WHY DO YOU HATE OUR TROOPS?
[For the record, KO and his loons on the FAAAAARRRRRRR LEFT believe that sleep deprivation, temp adjustments, bad music and gaining weight in interrogation camps represent torture. I envy those prisoners...I endure more torture watching Countdown than those guys do.]
Some ratings news. Looks like Monday was a weird glitch, as it didn't follow the trending post-election numbers. Tuesday seems to have returned to normalcy:
8PM - P2+ (25-54) (35-64)
The O’Reilly Factor—3,173,000 viewers (748,000) (1,294,000)
Campbell Brown —1,015,000 viewers (301,000) (426,000)
Countdown w/Keith Olbermann —1,585,000 viewers (585,000) (769,000)
Nancy Grace –1,147,000 viewers (386,000) (544,000)
9 PM - P2+ (25-54) (35-64)
Hannity & Colmes—2,376,000 viewers (583,000) (917,000)
Larry King Live —1,130,000 viewers (341,000) (461,000)
Rachel Maddow Show —1,401,000 viewers (489,000) (642,000)
On the Money—172,000 viewers (59,000) (91,000)
Lou Dobbs- 485,000 viewers (187,000) (259,000)
Olbermann reserved his top story for an attack on O'Reilly's criticisms of the Washington governor for allowing an atheist display in the statehouse. He uses the segment for a typical attack on the O'Reilly "War on Christmas," saying O'Reilly's just harping on the issue as a ratings ploy (no doubt similarly to how Olbermann cooks up baseless attacks against O'Reilly as a ratings ploy).
Olbermann extensively quotes O'Reilly (mangling the quote at one point), and says O'Reilly is offbase because allowing an atheist message would be "Fair and Balanced" *zing*
Of course, Olbermann never bothers to display the contents of said atheist message (which Olby no doubt agrees with), which states that religion is myth and superstition and encourages hate. Sure, that's a message that's fair and balanced with celebrating the birth of the guy that said "turn the other cheek."
Well, that's a relief. Did Oralmann pimp Monday's glitch win tonight?
I wrote my comment unaware that you posted again, Am47 (I hope you don't mind the abbrev.).
Who was the guest for that segment? I have a sinking feeling that Gov. Gregoire herself may appear very soon.
If she does, it would fly in the face of BOR, who would be unable to say anything else about her. Do you think she'd do it?
No guest, just Olby reading O'Reilly quotes, making fun of him, then pausing to jokingly light the "Countdown Christmas Tree," which happens to be the giant Rockefeller Center tree.
You'll remember Gov. Gregoire is the one who snuck into the Washington Governor's office in 2004 after election officials "found" several hundred ballots that hadn't been counted in the election and machine recount.
Hardy har. Leave the lighting to the grown-ups on the mothership (NBC). Incidentally, I took the LIRR from Wantagh to Rockville Centre at 4:30, completely forgetting that the tree lighting was tonight. It hit me when a group of parents and their kids boarded in Bellmore. They were going to Penn Station to walk up to 30 Rock. The same could be said for a small group of people around my age (maybe a few years younger) that boarded in Baldwin. To finish the story, I got picked up at Rockville Centre to go to a Cablevision public access building/store a few minutes away in Lynbrook to tape a show that I'm audio tech for. (The Lynbrook stop is further from Cablevision than Rockville Centre.)
Getting back to the Hour of Spin...
I love how O'Reilly takes the high road and never follows KO's example of basically trashing someone. KO is so arrogant and damn, if he's not getting bloated and or fat. I guess that Obama pie is really filling huh?
He picked on Hannity tonight making him the WPIW for saying that if you don't listen to talk radio and don't watch fox news and listen to bumper stickers, you're not informed.
I think KO is just looking for any little jab at any body right now cause he has no one to pick on right now. Memo to KO: every makes a mistake and or error when broadcasting and or speaking. Just cause you have a teleprompter and probably someone writing your easily readable 3rd grade comments, doesn't me you don't screw up either.

Let's just take a closer look at that WPITW segment blasting Sean Hannity.
KO was referring to a conversation that took place on Hannity & Colmes Dec. 2 with John Ziegler, who made waves with his HowObamaGotElected video. Here's the transcript and video of the segment:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,460964,00.html
For those who haven't seen the original video, Ziegler asked Obama voters simple questions such as "What party controls Congress," and made them look stupid. His point is to explore the media's influence on the election, and the implication is that Obama voters are morons. Of course, one can also look at exit polling that shows 63% of voters with no high-school education voted for Obama. After Ziegler's video hit YouTube, various left-wing journalists began offering pundit pieces to put their spin on it, pointing out Obama won 58% of post-college-grads, and won 50% of college grads, reversing Bush's victory among that group from 2004. To add insult to injury, one article cited McCain's largest base of support being southern hicks, to paraphrase. I've posted lengthy analysis of these educational exit polls in these forums before, so I won't get into them here.
But Ziegler's slam on Obama raised the obvious question of how McCain voters would have fared. And Ziegler's results showed McCain voters were better informed when it came to the same questions.
Hannity was pointing out that listening to talk radio or watching Fox News helped a lot of these people stay informed, as opposed to Obama voters who were staying willfully ignorant by avoiding any news source that would be critical at all of Obama.
So, it boils down to Fox News basically running a segment that charges the average McCain voter is smarter than the average Obama voter, but there is a prevailing, systemic ignorance in this country, perpetrated by the media and outlets such as MSNBC, that favored Obama, helping him win.
Sounds like plenty of fodder for a WPITW segment, right? A golden opportunity for Olbermann to slap down Ziegler for his bizarre conspiracy, then read some wishful thinking from Olby Cronie Nate Silver, or from the Daily Kos or the Huffington Post, right?
So what is KO's grand response to this segment? He begins by dismissing it as nothing more than a "phony poll," but instead of backing up this aside with so-called proof, he then reads the Hannity quote twice and tries to pick it apart. And in the process of picking it apart, puts his own inaccurate spin on it, and then picks apart that spin. Never mind the fact that his final product bears little resemblance to Hannity's actual intent or statement. Or reality, for that matter.
"If you don't listen to talk radio, if you don't watch the Fox News Channel, you're not anywhere nearly as informed as people that are just hearing the bumper stickers, the slogans, the snippets of the commercials of the media."
A link to Hannity's saying it live is listed above. Seeing it spoken leaves little question as to the intent of his meaning. And for Olbermann to quote just the transcript without the subtleties of human speech is just another example of his typical distortions.
Olbermann picks on the "hear the bumper sticker" part, sure. But he's mainly interested in "you're not anywhere nearly as informed AS people ..." as if to say that people who don't watch Fox aren't as informed as those who just get snippets from the liberal media, which means those who watch liberal media are informed.
But Olbermann doesn't point out the nice pause after informed that Hannity actually said. "You're not anywhere nearly as informed [Pause] as people that are just ..."
So the transcript could just as easily be "You're not anywhere nearly as informed, as people that are just ..."
meaning: "You're not anywhere nearly as informed [because you are] people that are just ..."
Sure, Hannity could have phrased it better. But still within the context of his words remains a potential reading that belies Olbermann's attempts to both it.
Here's a link to what may have been an Olby source for the Hannity comments:
http://thinkprogress.org/2008/12/03/hannity-viewers-misinformed/
although this site actually tries to discredit the poll. I say tries because it doesn't really dispute the results.
First, it tries to quote a few Pew studies that it interprets as showing Fox News viewers are the most misinformed (conveniently overlooking that O'Reilly Factor and Hannity & Colmes viewers rank at the top of many of the lists in high-knowledge audience members). MSNBC isn't listed on one list and Olbermann isn't mentioned anywhere either.
Then it's main sources from criticizing the Ziegler study is Nate Silver, who dismisses Ziegler's findings because he considers it a Push Poll, but doesn't bother trying to prove how the questions Ziegler asked were factually inaccurate.
Seems to me, though, that these dismissals of Ziegler are just based on other studies that could just as easily be called push polls more favorable to the left.
Apologies to Mike C, who also posted the link, it seems as I was preparing my analysis
Another note about ThinkProgress slamming Fox ... the morons over there decided to site this study:
http://people-press.org/report/?pageid=1356
as Fox finishing "dead last," ignoring that Fox tied with three other sources, including CNN and ABC News, and that the list actually continues after this. Fox, CNN, ABC News and Larry King Live are actually right above the national average. Methinks the ordering of those four could have been random, or the person who wrote up this chart put Fox last to make it look bad.
But "dead last" on that list is actually the National Enquirer. Also finishing under the national average, and thus below Fox News, is CBS News, local news and network news in general.
So, nice try TP. But their top-notch analysis of these misread graphs kind of proves the point about Obama supporters being idiots, doesn't it?
TP also ignores another chart that shows Republicans answered more of the questions correctly than Democrats.
By the way, these studies are from Pew, the same organization that Olby dismissed when people asked who their favorite campaign correspondent was put Bill O'Reilly at the top of the list.
Murdoch, Hannity, and O'Reilly
Their network and shows rated highly
NBC circles drain
Irrelevant, inane
Mister Murdoch is smiling wryly
KO ended his program with his stupid "2345 days since President Bush decleared Mission Accomplished in Iraq." Since this weekend's near silent repoort about Iraq/US security agreement, isn't it about time to once and for all declear Mission Accomplished?
Its been 7 days since our since our Mission had been Accomplished in Iraq.
THANK YOU PRESIDENT BUSH AND GENERAL PETRAUS for leading us to victory in Iraq
Though I've been visibly Olby free for three weeks, I did read the transcript for last night's show, particularly WPITW and the O'Reilly attack. To Olbermoronn, giving out Gregoire's number is "cheesiest" because he's lost and the Governor won. Merkle claimed Jerry Stiller watches his show as he made a Festivus reference. Baby Billo! [Ding!] Foment! Intolerant! Hype for ratings! St. Rachel is the "Christmas Angel."
That's the biggest problem with Olbermann, is that he's not out there trying to put a stamp on the culture with any significant ideas. O'Reilly reporting on a "War on Christmas" is an example of how to notice a trend and package a report about it to not only inform, but also enhance your brand. Whether you like him or not, O'Reilly is very good at doing this. Sean Hannity does the same thing. Hannity is the one who brought the Rev. Wright connection to Obama to light, and he is demonized for it. But he's just doing his job. They are being proactive.
Olbermann isn't really known for this type of journalism/editorializing. He is mostly reactive, providing a liberal spin to well-covered stories or slamming people who present new issues if he doesn't like their take on it (or they are killing him in the ratings). That he mostly steals his half-formed arguments from pinko blogs is well documented at this site.
What is the closest Olbermann has come to a real scoop on par with the Rev. Wright reveals? I dunno, but I once saw Rachel Maddow try to make a big deal about her show having a "scoop" about John McCain once meeting Anne Hathaways felon ex-boyfriend. The evidence, A rear-angle photo from a couple years ago of someone who may have been McCain and his campaign manager walking to the man's yacht. The "scoop" actually belonged to some lefty magazine whose unkempt editor was on as a guest. Since it was uber-lame, of course the "story" went nowhere.
Unfortunately, Monday was not a glitch...in the demo:
http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/ratings/the_scoreboard_wednesday_nov_3_102462.asp
Last night, Gov. Gregoire's new best friend beat her worst enemy 699,000 to 585,000 in the 25-54 demo at 8PM. Christmas Angel Maddow beat "H&C" in said demo at 9PM 545,000 to 490,000. Total viewers, which the haters say is just old people near death, was the usual happy recap. At 8PM, BOR beat Oralmann 3,067,000 to 1,811,000. At 9PM, "H&C" over "RM" 2,262,000 to 1,454,000. TVNewser doesn't list the 35-64 demo, but I'm sure our FNC heroes won in that category, too.
The combined demo total for BOR at 8PM and 11PM is 1,010,000. For Olby at 8PM and 10PM, it's 944,000. Nevertheless, expect another 8PM demo win pimping by Keith "Man on Fan" Olbermann.

What about Olbermoronn's "Breaking News" on John McCain's "affair"?
