With the end of another year of Keith Oralmann's Hour of Spin, we really should recognize the high, and low points, of 2008. That's the purpose of the Olby Awards. What was Keith's biggest lie? The most outrageous example of Olbypocrisy? The meanest, dirtiest smear? The most egregiously biased report? On the flip side, who really came through with the sharpest, most devastating exposes of the infamous, deplorable one? Whose smackdown stung the most? So many possibilities, and so few days until the end of the year.
2008 found Edward R Olbermann using Kos to formulate his commentary, rushing to parrot what Markos told him to say, and even letting the Kossacks write his interview questions. Of course there was the repeated, serial compulsive lying. The embarrassing revelation that Oralmann is a tax deadbeat. His humiliating Czechoslovakia attack on John McCain (which he never repeated once Olbermann Watch exposed it). And so much, much more.
A good place to get caught up on the most embarrassing Monkeymann moments of this past year is our Olbermann Watch youtube page. Here you will find devastating critiques by Mark Levin, John Gibson, and many others. Plus our own videos catching Merkle in bouts of extreme hypocrisy, dishonesty, and downright stupidity. There are hours of viewing fun in just the 2008 videos (remember the racial slurs...and Olby's open-mic embarrassments?), and you can count it as research, so your rchoices for the Olby Awards will be as well-informed as possible.
GIve us your picks for the Olbies. Create your own categories if the standard award designations don't exactly fit. Comments are open!
Tough call. I'll nominate Olbermoronn's "BREAKING NEWS" on John McCain's "affair". Didn't Krazy Keith devote an entire "newscast" to this tabloid-style lie?
What a hoot.
For me it's the "Special Komment" he did equating McCain to the terrorists simply because McCain said that they were dangerous and that they must be stopped. His (olbermann's) theory was that by McCain spreading this message it was the same as the terrorists killing innocent civilians. In other words that the fear gathered by McCains message was unwarranted, as if 9/11 never happened.
The hypocrisy of the whole "komment" I believe was the worst moment for this anti-AMERICAN, as it came from a "man" who doesn't have the balls to have a desenting view on his show, and it was done while attacking a true American hero who suffered for 5 years in a POW camp.
Of course there are at least 200 more moments that olbywatch has brought out about this scum this year, and nearly as bad/good, but to me this one will stay with me forever.
I would nominate Olbermann's obvious lie about not seeing the Palin "turkey pardon" tape.
"I'll watch it for the first time in front of people who have already seen it."
http://www.olbermannwatch.com/archives/2008/11/video_oops_keit.php
Olbermann's inaccurate reporting on Governor Palin's turkey pardon (the coverage actually shown actually occurred AFTER she did the traditional tongue-in-cheek pardoning, she was taking reporters' questions) is a perfect example of the church of SNOBamessiah fanatics' hypocrisy, hatred and illogical demogoguery.
Now Caroline Kennedy is truly doing poorly in introducing herself to the nation as a politician. The muted reaction to her narcissistic quest of cintinuing silly American royalty by the zealots like Olbermann and our resident dote, MikeH, is hilarious and notable for their intellectual dishonesty and blind partisanship.....
"The putative Caroline Kennedy candidacy for senator has had the odd effect of reopening the media can of worms treatment of Gov. Palin. Compared to Sarah Palin's almost immediate immersion into crowds and public speaking, Kennedy seems like a deer in the headlights before the media that is either ignored or asked to submit written questions. Palin was a natural; Kennedy can't finish a single sentence without 'You know' or 'I mean.' Palin's family saga and daily grind were populist to the core; Kennedy is a creature of a few blocks' radius in Manhattan and Martha's Vineyard.
"Outsider and lower-middle-class Palin toughed it out in Wasilla for years of politicking on a 16-year slog through Alaskan old-boy politics; Caroline Kennedy in regal fashion apparently skipped voting in about half of New York elections, and has never run for anything.
"Reporters swarmed over Palin's pregnancies, and her wardrobe, but apparently took on face value that Caroline's fluff books were really a sign of either erudition or scholarship.
"Conservative Palin endured liberal Charlie Gibson's glasses-on-the nose pretentiousness, and Katie Couric's attack-dog questions; insider Kennedy I doubt will meet with either, much less sit down with a hostile questioner like a Glenn Beck or Bill O'Reilly. Her friendly New York Times 'interview' proved an embarrassment—rarely have so many words been spoken with so little content.
"But, no, the real embarrassment proves to be the media itself that apparently can't see this weird unfolding self-incriminating morality tale: It is not just that Palin is conservative, Kennedy politically-correct (e.g., pro-abortion, gun control, gay marriage, etc), or Palin a newcomer to public attention, Kennedy a celebrity since childhood. Rather it is the aristocratic value system of most NY-DC journalists themselves who apparently still assume that old money, status, and an Ivy-League pedigree are reliable barometers of talent and sobriety, suggesting that the upper-East Side Kennedy's public ineptness is an aberration, a bad day, a minor distraction, while Palin's charisma and ease are superficial and a natural reflection of her Idaho sports journalism degree.
"A few generations ago, Democrats would have opposed Palin but appreciated her blue-collar story, and applauded a working mom who out-politicked entrenched and richer male elites. But now the new aristocratic liberalism has adopted the values of the old silk-stocking Republicans of the 1950s—and so zombie-like worship rather than question entitlement."

Like I say, SNOBS.....the church of the elites have spoken and those who know the price of arugula in Iowa or know why the commoners cling to guns and God are now in control and there is nothing to worry about!......And now one of their own deserves to be a US Senator based on, on, on, I am trying to remember now....oh yeah......
"That said Caroline has spent a lifetime making a positive impression on a lot of people." Mike H 12/21/08 - 3:46 PM

WOW! What a great defense!
MikeH really has to reconsider his defense of Ms. Kennedy a week ago....her attempt to paint herself an effete competent elite "eyes looking out over the horizon" demigod image like that of SNOBamessiah is faltering.....Perhaps she should pray to him?......
VERO POSSUMUS!
My favorite Olby Moment has to be the Scarborough Shovel Smackdown. It was a thing of beauty. Not only did KO have the humiliation of being heard ridiculing his colleague when he thought his mic was turned off, but he had to deal with someone who would actually confront him with his own words. Painful but priceless. Can't hear it enough.
-----------
By the way, did anyone notice the job opening listed in the Olbermann Flood in the left rail? CD is looking for a new segment producer. A chance to work with KO, a dream come true for many. Check this site for the details. Surely some of our more creative readers could come up with their own list or requirements and responsibilities. Note the last entry of being "Up to date on blogs, websites, periodicals, including Op-Eds"

I thought KO said he writes the show? So why is the segment producer writing the segment. Could that be a lie coming from KO's lips?
Another point -
"MSNBC defines news for the next generation " Is defining the news the same as reporting the news?
Do you think the segment producer has to sponge down the spit from the laughing stage hand after a special comment?

I think the most Olbermann revealing moment of 2008 occurred after Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews were 'repurposed' as analysts rather than anchors for MSNBC election coverage.
After months of Phil Griffin and other MSNBC honchos (and Olbermann, himself) implying that only old fashioned scolds and nervous nellies were so nitpicking as to suggest that using pundits as anchors was bad journalism and suggesting that Matthews and Olbermann in particular were not capable of such a transition, Olbermann belied all their arguments in one telling statement.
After apologizing for the RNC memorial to 9/11 victims and subsequently being demoted back to designated kevetching Republican hater, Olbermann brilliantly mused, “I found it ironic and instructive that I could have easily said exactly what I did say, exactly when I did say it, if I had been wearing a different hat, and nobody would have taken any issue,”
"Ironic and instructive" indeed. The most ironic, instructive, and revealing a comment as you could have made, Keith Olbermann. It just damn well said it all, Mr. Sportscaster.
I am so sick of seeing the word "SNOBamessiah." I get it, Cee, You don't like him. I'd even venture to say you hate him. I didn't vote for him, but I'll give him a chance. He's our country's President. I don't want to be a hater in the manner that Olby and the far-left were (and still are) toward President Bush, Republicans, conservatives, and all things News Corp.
Having said all that, please don't hate *me*.
Unfortunately, I don't have an Olby Awards suggestion. Sorry.
Will whoever forces Mike C. to read each and every comment from start to finish on any board he frequents, please have mercy on him and upon us and let him stop!
I don't hate Barack Obama, MikeC. I don't hate his supporters, even the fanatical ones.
I abhor, hate the idea of any cult of personality including the one du jour of the radical anti-America left I have called "the church of SNOBamessiah." It is a dangerous, radical and wrongheaded movement that some on this site (I will spare you his name)support strongly.
I believe blind devotion to any idealized human being is a dangerous thing and those, including the politician himself, show their true character when they encourage or endorse such tactics.
I feel sorry for those immersed in the cult of personality, I do not hate them. Those ready to manipulate such people should be ridiculed, labeled and called out whenever possible.
COUNTDOWN is a propaganda arm of the radical left which is currently the base of the cult of personality I speak of. I am sorry it rubs you the wrong way, I do not intend it to do such a thing. I simply want to call a spade a spade.....
I support our nation and its constitution 100%, but any personal political power base that accumulates its moral authority based on fleeting feelings, slogans and cultic imagery is not in its best interests.
What did I do wrong, Cecelia?
Sorry I misunderstood you, Cee. I don't like the radical/far-left either. (shudder)
Mike, I just wish you were having more fun than you seem to be having.
Sorry, if I made things worse.
No need to apologize MikeC.
I know you from your many posts here and at J$ and always take your comments from the constructive sensibility from which I feel they originate.
I just didn't want to leave you thinking I am a crazed loon shut-up in my basement plotting against imagined enemies.
BTW, I think Cecelia is only kidding around with you.
Also, I will try to tone it down....I did manage to post something at J$ without invoking any "anti-Obama" rhetoric....I can control myself.
Have a Happy New Year.
Keith had a smackdown with Morning Joe
Tax liens because he won't pay the dough
Got anchor-demoted
Third place Nielsen voted
Seventeen was when Keith pulled his ho
There's too many to pick from.
From his softball interview with Obama, his Prop 8 crocodile tear komment, his open mic with Joe, his lying about the Turkey Tape, and my personal favorite, telling an AP writer to find new work minutes after Obama's speech. How dare you sir, write a mediocre review of an Obama speech that was historic. Worse...person...*obesity breath* in the world!!!
That's "his Prop 8 phony crocodile opportunistic tear komment."
How about where he maneuvered to have a 10-year-old boy be given an hourlong political commentary show on MSNBC?
The only question is if he thinks of himself as Geppetto or Jiminy Cricket to Maddow's Pinocchio.
How about the Olbermann Wussy Moment of the Year:
Is it when he lamed out and bailed on going to the Republican National Convention, then lobbed bombs from his nice safe studio anchor desk?
Or when he winced and couldn't seem to stomach the relatively benign Sarah Palin Turkey Interview video, featuring the "turkey murdering machine"?
Or just in general not allowing anyone on his show who isn't prescreened and scripted to not contradict anything he says?
Or that interview with Barack Obama?
Or maybe simply his appearance on Martha Stewart?
Or getting owned by the ladies of The View? In stark contrast to Bill O'Reilly, who took over the place?
Or maybe how he bent over to O'Reilly in the ratings night after night?
Has anyone put together a tribute video featuring an Olby montage set to the song "Biggest Douche in the Universe" from South Park?
Owned? He was beloved by all but Elisabeth. The audience loved him, too. I covered my eyes for the length of the interview, but I heard how it went down. It was awful.
owned in the sense that he was so docile it was pathetic
Good nominees so far.
Has Olbermann been covering Democrats Behaving Badly this week? You know like.....
Obama being noncomittal about the Israeli offensive against radical Islamic terrorists who use human shields......
I love the response the world is having.....they seem upset with the messiah and his tepid response.....

Aw....I thought world opinion was going to improve with the new President waiting in the wings?
And now Blago names his Senator....a guy who raised money for him....wow....Democrats behaving badly...
And Harry Reid and the Senate Dems are throwing a hissy fit over the appointment.....aw, what a nice constitutional crisis the democrats have decided to create.....
VERO POSSUMUS
Cee: "Obama being noncomittal about the Israeli offensive against radical terrorist who use human shields......"
I can't wait to read your fanatical anti-Obama rantings once he actually does become The President.

Cee: "I love the response the world is having.....they seem upset with the messiah and his tepid response....."
But the only one who seems to be "upset" over whatever it is you are ranting about now is YOU!
We're almost there folks!........We've finally on the verge of having a president capable acting by using his head instead or reacting with destructive and misguided emotions.
Happy New Year!

Happy and Healthy New Year Here's hoping I'm happily and gainfully employed in broadcasting in 2009.
Happy New Year, to everyone, including those faithful followers of The One, like MikeH, who better be well prepared to defend the faith.
From Iraq and Israel, to Russia and China.....from our spiraling debt to the fundamentals of our free market.....from moves to force radical change on our core beliefs and values to the future of our children and grandchildren....from our freedom to choose our own personal and local community paths with our own resources to central authority over taxation and politically elitist oppression.....policy, law and RESULTS will be ready for evaluation. I simply hope some may abandon their hypocrisy and dishonesty in their fanatical devotion to some cult of personality or radical ideology to have an honest debate on the issues.....I am not hopeful that will occur for Keith Olbermann and those who are so heavily invested in his vitriol, demogoguery and propagandist role.
I am always hopeful that the great moderate middle of our great country will once again protect our great democracy from the fringes and keep the steady course that is necessary to thrive and prosper.
VERO POSSUMUS!
I left out a period. Sorry.
