There's trouble in river city ... for Olbermann

With news broadcasts truncated by the Bush speech lead-in, these numbers might not be very indicative of much.

BUT ... O'Reilly had a huge night, with lots of coverage of the plane crash, as opposed to Olbermann's heavy post-speech analysis. Hannity also pulled great numbers.

And really hammering home Bill's 2.5 million viewer win over Olby is the fact that Campbell Brown beat Olby in the 25-54 demo. This is probably not indicative of a trend as she probably picked up non-cable-news regulars ... that is, people who aren't too familiar with cable news and were interested in seeing the Bush speech, and went with the most familiar brand name, which is CNN (this is why CNN won election night). These numbers could indicate Fox News is picking up some of those "casual" cable viewers.

He really just said BillO was worse than the American Taliban JWL. This was an obvious attempt to draw attention to himself. Hopefully nobody falls for it

After watching the past 2 nights of both Matthews and Olbermann, I foresee them crashing and sinking in the Hudson River. Yes, Olby has gone off the deep end of his schict over at A Mess nbc. His ratings are showing more than ever and the douch that he is doesn't have the balls to bring this up on his show, I wonder why? Bottom line, what's this idiot of the airwaves going to do when Bush is finally gone?
Keith, you are one of the most deplorable news people out there. Your bias, pro obama, pro left wing lunacy has gone to the extremes that you are now the most ignorant newsman out there. Tonight's O'Reilly attack was nastier than we've seen in a while. I think it's time to send in Jesse Watters to school Olby Billo-style!

I went to the "Countdown" website, but didn't watch the video for the attack. I did notice that it was in WPitW and the title for the video was "O'Reilly legacy worse than Bush legacy"...or something like that. Besides the John Walker Lindh equivocation, what else did our Man on Fan say about our humble correspondent?

Maddows segment with the Rolling Stone guy is the type of thing MSNBC apparently sees as the "news" of the future. This was a complete fantasy story reported on as though it was a fact and newsworthy. The same treatment was given to the W movie. It's shameful.

Mike C is correct. I think Olbs attacks on Billo will continue to be more and more offensive until he gets a reaction. Comparing him to a man who took up arms against his own country is just the start. Imagine the outrage that would show up in all the media if BillO, or especially Limbaugh made such a comparison. Don Imus was taken off air for less.

Oh oh. Keep a WPITW watch on Glen Beck (again). Beck was on O'Reilly today and compared Billo to Tim Russert as a fair interviewer. Oh boy. Olby can't let that one go by, can he?

Where does KO get off slamming Billo for "demonizing dissent"? Excuse me, but which of the two actually bring on guests with contrary points of view, actually fostering debate?

That must be what KO means. One can't "demonize" another point of view if one simply ignores it to begin with, right?

But you've gotta love Olby's "I'm rubber and you're glue" defense against the O'Reilly tirade. "Start with yourself" indeed. "Spewing bile for a decade." You're one to talk, pal.

O'Reilly "despises those who in the name of ideology want to weaken the country."

Olby of course thinks O'Reilly is acting from ideology simply because Olby despises him, and that's only cuz O'Reilly is on in the same time slot and kills him in the ratings.

Well, Campbell Brown beat him yesterday. Would Olby like to turn the guns on her now?

Oh, I will admit the past two shows by KO have just been over the top and he's completely gone off the deep end.

I mean he should just really come out, him and Matthews and say look, "we LOVE Obama, we WANTED him to win and we're in his back pocket."

If I read those ratings right, KO's days are numbered. If not, he's going to be the laughing stock of the news community, which he's nearly almost there by now.

It's hard to respect someone who tells the current President to shut the hell up, that he's full of crap and a facist and this man DOESN'T VOTE!

It's a shame that they don't let KO have an email address over at MSNBC, that sucker would be literally flooded every day. Anyway, we have the weekend now to savor before KO and Matthews apply their lipstick to pucker up on Obama's behind.

Olbr is back to posting comments and plugs on his favorite loon blog, dailykos. Given that Kos is basically the ghostwriter for 99% of countdown, when do you think they'll start to demand olbermann specifically cite them as his source on air? He read one of those diary things word for word for his opening segment re: bush admin ending at 5 PM Friday. After his 8 yrs in 8 min he of course ran to Kos to see the loons in a frenzy hootin & hollerin how great olbs is. He seems like a very unhappy and insecure man. What else would explain the desparate need to feel accepted. What other "news man" or person with any self respect would sell themselves out like that.

Did Keith have any crash/water landing survivors or survivors of similar crash landings on his show last night or was it partisan politicking for the whole hour?

Why does Wikipedia disallow any references to Olbermann being a liberal (he cannot even be described as "....sportscaster, 'liberal' political commentator") when the first sentence that is used to describe O'Reilly is "Conservative television/radio host"?

I understand the legend out there that the wiki page is slanted to the left, but how do they justify their stance?

Yeah, I know the dance they do, Mike. But a guy can dream, can't he? Remember that "comedy" sketch KO produced about how to handle an O'Reilly ambush? Well, I think if it ever really happened, he would probably stutter something about loofahs, trying desperately to remember his own how-to guide, as he dropped a deuce in his pleated pants. After recovering from the initial humiliation, we'd witness his very first Speshul Komment on "Bill Orally, Terrorist Stalker".

It's amazing; O'Reilly could go after him from so many different angles, yet for years has chosen to let Olbermann hold the lawsuit over his head. Or maybe he has some master plan for the guy, who knows...

As this aired last Wednesday, I knew that Keith was going to tear into the eeevil O'Reilly over it. I figured it would be either WPitW or #1 on Thursday. But now-former-President Bush's farewell address--and to a lesser extent (on OlbyPlanet at least), the crash water landing of US Airways 1549--kept Man on Fan from held up his attack until Friday. That brings us to:

"Of course, you don‘t want anybody reporting the Bush administration's mistakes, because Mr. Bush was so diligent about owning up to them. Obviously, Abu Ghraib would have corrected itself if we had ignored it." Time for parsing with a bad hysterical impression, likely with an image of the parsed quote next to an image of our humble correspondent with a big head on a small body. "If you don't count the anthrax killings, Bill." Ooh, a Krazy Konspiracy Theory resurfaces. "But if you ignore the fact that Bush and Cheney didn't protect Americans before 9/11, and if you fell for all those Diet Coke and Mentos plots they foiled --" Yep, he went back to Baxter parsing...all likely based on the MSNBC.com transcript and his track record; I wouldn't dare watch anymore. Then, Edward R. Olbermann likely launched his trademark indignation and faux outrage. "How about starting with yourself, pal, because with the hateful bile you have been spilling for a decade, and the racism and the homophobia and the demonizing of dissent, you, Bill O‘Reilly, have personally harmed this country far more than a John Walker Lindh ever did. Bill O‘Reilly, today‘s worst person in the world."
