This is the recappers' comment thread for tonight's Countdown. Our mole in the enemy camp whispers that tonight should be a banner evening for attacking Fox. Possibly because Oralmann's special 10pm countdown last night finished in a miserable third place, losing to both Anderson Cooper and by an even larger margin to Greta van Susteren. The infamous, deplorable one will be looking for revenge tonight!
Post your analysis of tonight's Hour of Spin. Be an Olbermann Watch blogger--without all the muss and fuss. Comments are open!
So Olbermann pulls an exclusive with Julio Oseguendo(sp) aka the McDonalds guy from his Ft Myers town hall. Does anyone else think these "unexpected questions from regular citizens" are starting to become a bit questionable? The Hannity beer question yeasterday was odd but nothing tops todays episode. Anyway, maybe Olbermann "the real news man" will lead the investigation into Julios background and life the way he did into Joe the Plumbers life....
oh, a couple more things...
how exactly is the new factor studio designed after olbermann's?
Olbermann repeated the Murdoch misquote (fat or facts)
After watching 2 segments tonight I predict poorer viewer numbers for Keithee.
First, for the umpteenth time Prof. "BUSH IS A WAR CRIMINAL" TurDley, urges Obama to not be a politician and get the trial proceedings going. It's Obama's duty!!!
Then we get the interview with the Guiness Book of Records winner for most pimples on a 20-year old McDonald's employee that Obama called on in Florida early on in the day. I couldn't watch because (1) no news worthiness and (2) that horrible complexion.
Mickey Mouse production value yet again.
Tumble down the TV ratings Keithee. Enjoy the ride.
Let's get a detailed report on him repeating the Murdoch misquote. That might merit a post of its own.
Also did he say the new Factor studio is an imitation of his? The Factor is using a temporary studio because the new Factor studio is still under construction and being upgraded for HD. Olby is really a genius.
The ratings are important to Keith
But he keeps falling further beneath
Grace and O'Reilly
They're rated highly
Because Olberdouche lies through his teeth
Oh, he's just in Studio E temporarily? I thought that was permanent. If the temporary set looks good, and it does, I can't wait to see what the upgraded set in A will look like.
What was the blue blog source for Oralmann's studio envy attack? And what segment did he bring it up in?
I don't have the DVR set so I can't rewind, but I am 99% sure Olbermann said the new factor set was modeled after Countdown- that's not a direct quote but pretty close.
As for the Murdoch quote repeat, I am 110% sure about that. It was part of a fox attack. Olbermann ended it by saying, as we know Murdoch has said he doesn't tolerate facts, arrgh!
In repeating the misquote, it may be that Olby and his comedy writers know it is incorrect, but because they can cite an "official transcript" floating around on the web, they can claim plausible deniability on knowing the truth.
Olbs is definitely re-misquoting on purpose. I wouldn't be surprised if he's doing it just to get a reaction from this site. Honestly, nobody pays attn to Olbermann or takes him seriously, other than dailykos. He is without a doubt the most irrelevant man in news. None of the NBC reporters will even appear on his show anymore. That shows even his own network doesn't take him seriously. Essentially, Countdown has become just another blog so, like all bloggers, he is able to get away with making absurd quotes.
BOY, aren't we all lucky that we ignor Tim Geitner's tax problems and let him become Treasury Secretary? Olbermann is going to pay dearly for bing Obama's lap dog.
Imagine if Geithner was chosen as Treasury Secretary under a Republican administration...all five spots on Countdown tonight would have been on his deer-in-the-headlights speech and embarrassingly thin "plan" today that sent the markets diving.
I get a tingle in my groin every time Greta kicks olberwoman's fat ass...I agree w/you irushbaby..."BLOGDOWN" does seem to be a more appropriate name for the show.
Next time Obama needs to let Biden testify. At least everyone expects Biden to talk out his ass.
You mean a thrill running up your groin?
So my question is this. If you were Pontious Pilate and you had to decide whether you would put Joe the Plumber or Julio in a very large Kraft jar with a tight lid on it who would you pick? Clearly KO thinks Julio fits the picture of the "Average American" that these people like to think they know.
I really need to pay better attn, but did Olbs also tease that a Fox was quoting a typo in a transcript as though it was news? If he really just did that, I think that's it's obvious he is directly reacting to this website and similar sites calling him out.
That kid looked like something straight out of X-Men three, pure mutant. Wearing that "king obama" shirt today, thinking he just saw the "messiah". If he wasn't a plant, I don't know what is.
And only in America, can this reject become an "intern" at a minor league or whatever ballpark. And bathtub boy was all giggy over the kid.
Then there was that lady there sobbing saying, about her complex we need a kitchen, transportation, etc. Help me. wah wah, how much did Oprah pay you lady?
And if you look REAL carefully you'll see a lady behind her in a white polo shirt mouthed to Obama, "I love you Obama."
Geez, is it time to get him out of office already? I just want to get into a time machine and zoom over to 2012 when we can get MILF Palin or some reasonable republican in the White House instead of this clown.
Bathtub boy did make one ran about how Ari Flescher complain about Obama taking a question from Huffington Post, when back when Bush was President, Flescher would put that pool of .dom reporters into a special area labeled, "Siberia". He would then tell Bush NOT to go to Siberia.
Of course Bathtub boy was quickly to point out that Bush once ventured to one of the .dom reporters and Olbmerman was all like, "TAKE THAT Flescher!" Big whoop Keith. Just reaching for stuff now. I guess he was bummed that his Daily Kos press pass couldn't get him in the White House on Monday night.
I look forward to hearing America's reply to tonight's Countdown disaster show. Until then...good night and get out Keith, please.
irushbaby, I had the exact same thought about the Fox guy quoting a transcript with a typo, and a Senate Republican talking points memo, no less. Kind of like Maddow monday night (I think) putting up on the screen a chart showing job losses during the last few recessions. It purported to use Bureau of Labor Statistics info, but was actually put together and issued by Nancy Pelosi's speakers office. So, it's not okay for a Fox newsreader to list off some facts about the growth of the stimulus bill put out by senate republicans, but it is just fine for his little nephew to do the same thing using Pelosi's "data?"
ALSO. in still buuuushed, he ripped Arie Fleischer for "revisionist gate", for saying on O'Reilly last night that he seated "dot-coms and oddballs" in a separate section in the press room and told Bush not to call on them. To which Olbermann showed a clip he described as occurring in January, 2005 showing Bush calling on a bald reporter who Olberman said was part of a fringe right-wing media outlet. Bang, Zing, gotcha Arie!! But wait...if KO was indeed correct in the date, that would be a year and a half AFTER Fleischer ENDED his term as Bush's press secretary. At the beginning of the interivew on O'Reilly, Fleischer himself said that his term ran from 2001 to 2003. They (KO) don't even absorb other pertinent facts in the same interview from which they extract their "jab."
Final note...Bush's press secretary in January, 2005??? SCOTT MCLELLAN. I'm sure Olby has him on speed dial and can call to confirm.
I didn't intend to start a trend of attacking the McD's boy. I think we should avoid that, keep the criticism with Olbermann. I agree these people appear to be plants, but let's not blame them, but rather the people who planted them. (btw Hannity had on the beer lady tonight). I watch too much news, is j$p hiring?
There's a story from NewsBusters in the Olbermann Flood that says Edward R. Olbermann and the Pundit for All Occasions were at a "gay-left" (Tim Graham's words) fundraiser Saturday.
http://newsbusters.org/blogs/tim-graham/2009/02/10/msnbcs-olbermann-newsweeks-fineman-star-fundraiser-n-y-chapter-gay-left-
Pundit (Howard Fineman) introduced The Guttersnipe at 8:00 (Fat Ass) this way:
"He's not a liberal. What Keith is is an anti-establishment character who doesn't want people in power to get away with things." Tim Graham writes that Fineman added, "He rediscovered the role of journalism and that role is deeply informed judgment about people in power and about the morality of our country."
You've got to be kidding me. If all that's true, then we are living in the Twilight Zone. (Man, I'm using that O'Reilly phrase a lot today.)
Fineman added, "He rediscovered the role of journalism and that role is deeply informed judgment about people in power and about the morality of our country."
Well Keith, who are the people in power now? When was Keith's blistering Spechual Komment about Obama not supporting Gay Marriage? I must have missed it.
I agree. Please lay off Julio.
Keith's blue blog source for Never Going To Stop Being Bushed...I mean Still Bushed: Think Propaganda. http://thinkprogress.org/2009/02/10/fleischer-obama-media/
This was predicted by me six hours ago in the Monday thread:

BOR's interview with Ari (unedited by haters) can be seen here: http://tinyurl.com/btetr6
For those that click on the link to last night's thread, did I get the WPitW O'Reilly Attack source correct?
Keith included his Murdoch misquote performance in the WPITW segment tonight. This illustrates the following:
1: Keith is absolutely comfortable being a fraud and a liar. Proud, even.
2: Keith is petty enough to kick downward when caught by a small, yet
absolutely provacative website. His antics tonight were nothing more than a telegraphed " F..YOU! Olbermann Watch".
3. All this and more on a night when the "theme" of the program was laughingly, ironically, and not lost on Olbermann himself, apologies.
Olberwomann is a bi-sexual that insists he's not gay.
Hypocrite.
He flat out ran the reading talking points memos with typos on air as news just to show he knows comments are our their calling him out on it. It's his sort of way of others do it so I can't be wrong and I wot apologize
The facts set thing still gets me

You know, I can't stand Maddow much, but she sure pulls way better guests than KO. Not even close. After the usual rotation of Wolfe, Conehead Alter, Fineman, Hayes, Robinson, Turdley, etc., it is "almost" refreshing to see actual senators, congresspeople, and ex-presidents on Maddow.
Am I the only one who thinks that, purely on their merits, Maddow should be burying KO for those who are inclined to watch either show?
What exactly was the "exclusive" with Julio Oseguendo? Rick Sanchez interviewed the guy on CNN this afternoon four hours before Olby's show even began.
Just saw WPITW, and I must say the man is either pathological or sociopathic.
He dings a Fox News flunkie for what he says is reading from a Republican press release (the definition of reading the talking points) and repeating a transcript mistake, and follows it up with an attack on Bill O'Reilly about Cher in which he repeats the Murdoch "tolerate facts" BS, complete with the crummy pirate accent.
All this after using a transcript mistake for an unfounded smear on Murdoch, and then doctoring an O'Reilly quote to smear him, too.
It's like O'Reilly says. We're living in the Twilight Zone.
And Countdown is the Toilet Zone. Full of crap and ready to be flushed.
Just for fun, maybe we can find something Olbermann said that has one word that could be "misheard" to completely change the meaning of the sentence and make it look as if Olby is insulting himself, and then take the "transcript" and post it all over the Internet.
Can anyone cite an Olby sentence where "mishearing" one word completely makes him look like a bigger ass than we already know him to be?
I just did something I haven't done in three months: I watched the WPitW video...or at least I listened to the audio of it. So, I can say:
Worse was Jon Scott. Blue blog source: Media Matters. http://mediamatters.org/items/200902100019?f=h_latest
This was also discussed at ICN.
http://insidecablenews.wordpress.com/2009/02/10/smoking-gun/
And the ICN discussion was link to at J$P:
http://homepage.mac.com/mkoldys/blog/bpb255938515.html
But what Media Matters "reported" was predictably ripped and read by Keith "Rip 'n Read" Olbermann.
Worser was Another O'Reilly Attack! But it wasn't for the Helen Thomas lighthearted jest. It was for nominating Cher a Pinhead for last night's Pinheads & Patriots. Blue blog source: NewsWeimaraners.
http://www.newshounds.us/2009/02/10/independent_bill_oreilly_calls_cher_is_a_pinhead_oh_no_he_didnt_oh_yes_he_did.php
P&P video on FOXNews.com: http://tinyurl.com/dhsatj
The Ted Baxter voice was rapidly used and a line that was laughed by our humble correspondent last night was turned into a serious pearl of wisdom. Pack mule! Keithy said O'Reilly didn't show Cher saying there were good Republicans. "Tolerate facts" was repeated.
Worst was a British doctor. Theatrical indignation and faux outrage. Keith kares about kids. We here at Olbermann Watch care, too, but we mean it. Personally, I feel for the children that got sick from the shots they were forced to be given. My heart goes out to them, their parents, and their families.
I don't know what else to say now. Worst made me feel bad. Thanks, Edward R. Olbermoronn.
I wrote my recap before I saw A47's.
And what's up with that comment about O'Reilly's set? O'Reilly doesn't have a freaking window behind him!
Is Olby referring to a new set we haven't seen yet?
Better question, is Olby in hi-def anywhere? Not on my system!
And again, I ask — Where does anyone who ends his broadcast with "Good Night and Good Luck" get off accusing anyone of copying him?
I appreciate all the kind words about my comments here, and how people look forward to them.
I remember when I first started posting here, the posting was sporadic. Some discussion threads generated more interest than others. I just wanted to do my part in the name of truth.
In the past few weeks I've noticed a lot of new posters to the site, and I was thrilled. Now it seems most of the discussion threads are generating a lot of interest and a good healthy analysis of Olbermann's minced words.
While I'm glad to throw in my two cents, I must say that even were I not to step in on a given night, I think you all are doing quite well.

By the way, speaking of "thrill running up my leg," check out this video: http://tinyurl.com/afgdjb
It's Griff Jenkins and Jesse Watters at the Hip-Hop Inaugural Ball. Guess who was shown on his cell phone, looking down, and writing something on a notepad with 0:29 left in the video? Yes, Chris Matthews.
(MS)NBC won't put Olby in hi-def (shudder) for fear of losing the small number of Countdown's remaining viewers.
Hello. I noticed last night that comments have been suspended at Johnny Dollar's Place.
Johnny is alright, I hope?
He's fine, but there was too much chaos yesterday.
Thanks, Mike, but I've been back and forth on the road and missed the chaos of yesterday, so I'm not sure what you mean.
BTW-- miss you at J$P!
I didn't know what happened either because I didn't bother to check the comments for yesterday's open thread. Johnny told me about it last night and I read them for myself. It was Newshounds galore in there, featuring Patrick. Then, Johnny turned moderation off for 2 hours and 45 minutes and let everyone go nuts, so to speak. After that, commenting was suspended.
While BOR's lighthearted jest at Helen Thomas was not news on OlbyPlanet last night (at least not in WPitW), the rest of the progressive universe is in a frenzy. The attacks and apology demands were the subject of Hour 1 of "The Radio Factor" this afternoon. The discussion extended into Hour 2 when O'Reilly interviewed Howard Kurtz. There will be more on the progressive (far-left) O'Reilly-Thomas outrage tonight on "The O'Reilly Factor."
By the way, the main topic for Hour 2 of "The Radio Factor" was Bill Press and Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) wanting the Fairness Doctrine back. Michael Calderone reported on this last Thursday at Politico: http://tinyurl.com/c72qs9
Thanks to Johnny, here is Jon Scott's apology just after noon--10:03 MT (12:03 ET) according to the video--on "Happening Now": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4JOd6KS7Zk
"Red Eye" poked fun at Helen Thomas, too, last night and they were cruder than BOR. But they're "Red Eye" and this is the eeevil Bill O'Reilly. How dare you, sir! You are a loaded gun, etc.
Of course, I was being sarcastic.
On "The Radio Factor," BOR incorrectly blamed Media Matters for distorting his Helen Thomas jest. I checked MM stories between Monday and today and found nothing. I did, however, find a story posted by the Lying Labradors:
http://www.newshounds.us/2009/02/10/bill_oreilly_mocks_helen_thomas_says_shes_like_the_wicked_witch_of_the_east.php
It was posted at NH by Ellen at 1:48 AM yesterday, which gave people like "The View" plenty of time to see the smear and take it as gospel nine hours and 12 minutes later on ABC.
The next to fall in line with the smear were...
Infamous interview hijacker Bonnie Erbe at U.S. News & World Report: http://www.usnews.com/blogs/erbe/2009/02/10/bill-oreilly-attacks-on-helen-thomas-are-ugly-petty-and-hateful.html
Danny Shea at HuffPo: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/02/10/bill-oreilly-calls-helen_n_165696.html
New York magazine: http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2009/02/bill_oreilly_vs_jon_stewart_th.html
That featured a "Daily Show" attack on BOR for ambushing Mike Hoyt of Columbia Journalism Review and decrying paparazzi that hound Miley Cyrus all in the same Reality Check segment last Monday. Yeah, like an adult editor of once-good Journalism mag and a 16-year-old teen pop star are one in the same. Oh, and a responsible (and successful) commentary show's tactics are one in the same with irresponsible celebrity stalkers. You guys nailed it, Jon. There was also a shout-out to Olby's friends at The Nation.
And the Cleveland Leader:
http://www.clevelandleader.com/node/8942
Googling "bill o'reilly" and "helen thomas" together brings up all the above links among others. But nothing from Media Matters.
Okay, I'm sorry. Bill was right. I slept through the first half hour of "The Radio Factor" and I'm listening to it in progress right now. He quoted a statement from the Women's Media Center, a Gloria Steinem-Jane Fonda outfit, citing Media Matters.
Here is the statement, featuring a link to MM: http://womensmediacenter.com/wordpress/?p=589
