It's your Friday night open thread. Robin is subbing for Bathman tonight, so you don't even have to watch The Hour of Spin! Instead you can listen to Lou Dobbs who has a few choice words about the infamous, deplorable one. Comments are open!
When I think of credibility I think of Keith Olbermann. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going back to my vacation in Bizarro World.
BTW, putting The Ed Show on instead of the Boy Blunder last night was an excellent ratings move.
http://tvbythenumbers.com/2009/04/10/cable-news-ratings-for-thursday-april-9/16518
But Megyn Kelly kicked ass subbing for Greta!
Ah, Lou Dobbs, a man who has time for neither the left whack jobs, nor the nuts on the right. Yes, there are plenty of both.
David Shuster calls Rove "Turd Blossom". No doubt G W Bush regrets nicknaming him that. When Shuster uses the term 'teabagging' to describe the various "tea party" events, his slimey smile betrays the fact he knows exactly what he is saying. A commenter touched on it on last nights thread. I'm gonna lay it out plane:
Teabagging
Lets try it again. I'm gonna lay it out plain: Teabagging:
The dragging of a scrotum across a sexual partners face. Real classy, Shuster. Turdblossoms and Teabagging. Sounds like MSNBC to me.

ObserverDan, a big 10 4 on the tea bagging post... I don't know quite what it says that a lesbian \ Rhodes Scholar giggled and smiled for a WHOLE segment with a fellow AA nut job about tea bagging, but in my disgusted induced thoughts I wondered if it would be grounds for getting her in trouble \ censured etc. But I think we're all aware of the caliber of MSDNC and its management.
Although, I wonder if at this point getting rid of Phil Griffin would be a start to getting rid of the man who out and out disrespected him. "Phil thinks he's my boss." Classy. Please, does anyone have pictures of Phil? I mean, other then Olbs whose been able to keep his job.
As for the petition, afotia1020, it would be nice but first and foremost you need specific grounds to get someone kicked off the air, ala Imus. Second, generally speaking its better to go after sponsors, and I would imagine someone around these parts could easily craft a letter to do just that. Thirdly, and in the end, as much as I hate the man and only reserve that very negative emotion for those as despicable as him, he's here to stay.
Unless he does an Imus, which we hope and pray he will, or gets offered a better job somewhere, he isn't going anywhere. Management won't stand up to him, his ratings are probably solid enough to keep him where he is, and God knows the money he's making will insulate him just nicely.
I was going to sign that petition last night until I saw the overview. Insulting Olbermann like a five-year-old isn't going to take him off the air. Nor is a petition that's been up since November and has less votes than a Remove Bill O'Reilly from the IHTAF Fundraiser.
Lou Dobbs can kiss my ass. Olby is to the left as Beck is to the right? Beck is about half way from center to right extreme while Olby is extreme left. Olby thinks that the NYT's is extreme right for God sake.
I don't want Olbermann canned and I certainly don't expect that MSNBC would do it.
There IS a marketing aspect to his being there. He has increased their ratings.
However, if Olbermann were not a lefty, MSNBC would have to choose between ratings and credibility.
Media standard bearers would excoriate both Olbermann and MSNBC if he were not on the left.
That's the pressure I wish to see applied.
He has increased their ratings? What type of standard must be used to consider being beaten in the ratings by a 3-to-1 ratio a success? Recently, he is even finishing behind Nancy Grace for second place. MSNBC should welcome a choice between ratings and credibility - right now they have neither!
My skin was crawling when Robin started talking about teabagging tryuley one to go down in Tv news hall of fame..Just digusting and uncalled for, where is the producer when this was going on? Did Robin sneak this in? MSNBC the cable netwrok of no rating no also the cable channel of no CLASS!

I don't mean to be the pin in the balloon, but I fail to see the drop in ratings Olbermann is allegedly suffering. When he's on it looks like he's maintaining that one million to 1.5 million viewers.
It's nothing top write home about, but Dan Rather Make Up The News was in third place for over 20 years.
I'd also like to point out that people actually listen to Don Imus, that's (mostly) why he got caught. If Olbermann had more viewers it's more likely he would have gotten into Imus-like trouble by now. The base of his audience are people like that idiot in the Lou Dobbs clip who believe every word he says.
Basically, unless management changes at General Electric he's not going anywhere.
Lou said with no trepidation
Keith's "adjusting his medication"
He's "a left-wing hack"

And the cause of Lou's indignation

Rachel Maddow actually did an entire segment about the technique with the silly grin on her face Thursday night. Ana Marie Cox, formally of WONKETTE, used her talents in providing the double entendres.

The snark is expected, especially coming from the left. News anchors engaging in educating normal Americans about the ways and codes some use in everyday life is another check on the list of classy NBC NEWS advances.
The left blogs are full of the teabagging jokes and it is another aspect of the coordinated response to the right's grassroots movement to the reckless behavior of the unchecked federal government; the huge spending that will require either wider tax increases and/or result in terrible inflation in the not so distant future.
I am sure normal, nonpartisan Americans would respond well to the sexual innuendo snark...I think the radical left should keep it going.
The church of SNOBamessiah have some strange ways. I think I discussed such things with some from their ranks several months ago regarding the adulterer and sodomist, Bill Clinton. Once again, what truthfully plays as normal to the left's ruling elite usually does not come across as normal to the rest of us.
VERO POSSUMUS!
Hey CEE, I watched your link about madcow and her friend Ann Marie (Cocks). I figured Ann was fair game on this one. It's a shame that a known lesbo would have some fun with the whole tea baggin thing. But that's the difference these days. It use to be where all of the commentators where straight people, now we have these lesbo's like maddow, queers like Barney Frank, socialists like Maxine Waters, control freaks like Pelosi who want it all at the expense of you and me while contributing nothing, and whack jobs like Olbermann out there. Where was the tea bagging of Bill Clinton (over) Monica Lewinski from these people back then?
Report stories only on what furthers your party? There is a revolt that is coming. Our side of the isle is just looking for that particular person to lead us. Michael Steele is not that person nor is Newt. In time though, we will come through and take back what this current adminstration has done to corrupt this country and its demise. What Obama has done will be erased, looked down to as a socialistic ploy to enhance his agenda. Obama will eventially be placed right next to Rod Blago and the corrupt Chicago goons that have tried over and over to ruin this country.
Tea Baggin? The liberals of this country will get their Tea Baggin right across their faces when WE get done with them.
While I'm tea bagging Maddow is dildoing. I'm fine with that.
I bet someone "dared" Robin and Madcow to say teabagging...heheheh..Know i bet they double dared them..triple dared them..typical actions of a 5th grader..trying to act "cool". Hey we know now why MSNBC dosen't have ratings,..because we now know what hey do during their production meetings instrad of wanting to produce the best news show they instead sit around the table telling dirty "inside" jokes that only the ReALLy and I MEAN ReALLLY smart people will get..not us stupid right wing conservatives. Ha the jokes on these fools because they hav no RATINGS and someday soon will hopefully be one of Obama's unployed.
Who wants to bet when KO gets back they he says "teabagging" ..i bet they will give him a triple double dog, triple, double dog dare..(=
Can you picture Robin going to interview for another job when he gets fired and on his resume it says well on air one day i said "teabagging" a whole lot..well that summs up Robins carrer highlights...and Hey Robin still waiting for Carl Rove and Cheney indictments to be coming down anyday now ove the Valarie Blame case?

Whoops! I meant 'paid'.
Got to stop drinkin' that 'Night Train Express'.
Unlike Cecelia, I *would* like to see Olbermann canned. I understand that there's a marketing aspect in play. This is basically what O'Reilly is talking about when he mentions the "business decision" of top NBC management to allow Olbermann to do his schtick. They've made a strategic choice to go left and as a result, have picked up several hundred thousand more viewers at 8 pm.
But the unfortunate side-effect is Keith Olbermann's vicious personal agenda against people he hates for political reasons, which MSNBC allows him to run wild with. THAT'S why he should be canned. It's one thing to slant the news either right or left; most people are smart enough to see right through that. But when you have a guy who, night after night misrepresents and defames political enemies with the worst possible slander, you've got a serious problem. Say what you want about the bias of Hannity or Beck; they're not serial character assasins. However, to Olbermann, nothing personal or dishonest is off-limits.
Well there is another problem, if MSNBC cans KO what about Madcow? KO will expect her to quit in protest? what about Fat Ed? I guess Chrissy and Robin would the only ones that woulld be happy! We all know Chrissy just hates KO. Chrissy is a left wing jerk and in the bag for Obozo but he even knows deep down that KO and his motley crue are going to bring down MSNNC. I woulder why Fat Ed and the brain trust over there had him come on KO show to announce his show? If I recall Fat Ed was on Hardball and seems closer to Chrissy's typle show then KO and Madcow's shows. Ko and Madcow's are just mean and nasty.
Pirates killed, captain freed! Fabulous new ideed. However, I am watching CNN with a live shot of the Maersk Alabama and crew in dock. They seem to be very happy to hear that their captain is free and safe. Apparently they are proud of America, as they have unfurled the Stars And Stripes over the rail of the ship. Too bad these ignoramous's are too stupid to fly the flag in the proper way. Don't these buffoons realize the flag is flying backwards? Yeah, the idiots have the stars in the upper right corner. Sheeesh, Keith Olbermann has pointed out that this is only done when you are an idiot. Olby called out GW Bush for doing the same thing at a baseball game. Sure, at the time MSNBC's flag logo was UPSIDE DOWN. Olbermann must be spitting out his merlot watching these daffy sailors celebrate.
Maersk Alabama
John-O: "Unlike Cecelia, I *would* like to see get canned."
And fortunately, such decisions are not left in the hands of fringe elements like yourself, who seem to believe that the principle of free speech should apply only if the speaker happens to agree with your views.
Do people like you even read the things you post?
In your biased mind, it's perfectly acceptable to put one fringe radical talking head (O'Reilly) on a pedestal, while simultaineously campaigning for the silencing of another one, just because you happen to disagree with them.
Sometimes the hypocrisy expressed on this site is truely mind boggling!
Mike H, apparently you so enamoured with Olbermann, that you cannot bring yourself to use HIS name on this Holy Day.
No Dan, I'm just marveling at the never-ending hypocsrisy that is always on display on this site every day of the week.....Holy or not.

We're a fringe element MikeH? Our political ideas and values are so extreme. Like wanting political commentators to tell the truth. EXTREME! I think you need to look up the definition of fringe.
Let me ask you something MikeH? Where are you when we're discussing Olbermann issues like the Twitter situation and the Dean Fascists comments? Where were you when Olbermann lied about UPS pulling its ads from Fox News? Where were you when Olbermann insults rape victims? It's nice to see you just pick and choose your fights like Olbermann.
While you're at it I challenge you to prove to all of us here how O'Reilly is a "fringe radical talking head".

MikeH,
You stated, "In your biased mind, it's perfectly acceptable to put one fringe radical talking head (O'Reilly) on a pedestal".
I challenge you to give example(s) of how Bill O'Reilly is a fringe talking head. Cjflan32 cites examples of Olbermann's far left hypocrisy and lies so let's see what you have to offer.
A muted mongrel on COUNTDOWN tonight.....
"The Obama administration said Friday that it would appeal a district court ruling that granted some military prisoners in Afghanistan the right to file lawsuits seeking their release. The decision signaled that the administration was not backing down in its effort to maintain the power to imprison terrorism suspects for extended periods without judicial oversight.
"In a court filing, the Justice Department also asked District Judge John D. Bates not to proceed with the habeas-corpus cases of three detainees at Bagram Air Base outside Kabul, Afghanistan. Judge Bates ruled last week that the three — each of whom says he was seized outside of Afghanistan — could challenge their detention in court."

Oh boy....President Obama claims NO HABEUS CORPUS for those poor old detainees.....What did CANDIDATE Obama say about that?......
"Obama, a former senior lecturer at the University of Chicago Law School, cited 'that principle of habeas corpus, that a state can't just hold you for any reason without charging you and without giving you any kind of due process — that's the essence of who we are. I mean, you remember during the Nuremberg trials, part of what made us different was even after these Nazis had performed atrocities that no one had ever seen before, we still gave them a day in court and that taught the entire world about who we are but also the basic principles of rule of law. Now the Supreme Court upheld that principle yesterday.
"(Though Obama was clearly referring to the principle of giving criminals a day in court, it’s worth pointing out the distinction here, that the Nuremberg trials did not give Nazi war criminals access to U.S. courts, but to a special international military tribunal created by the U.S., USSR, France and the U.K. Though Nuremberg currently is considered a model for international law, it’s not as if Rudolph Hess had access to challenge his detention in U.S. federal court.)"

Ah, how things change.....The radical left was ready to brand George Bush a fascist for wanting to deny foreign terrorists access to US courts (saying he was denying them habeus corpus) and now Obama is arguing the same thing....although he is closing GITMO....what a funny, hypocritical situation! Obama used it against the administration in the campaign but now decides US courts are not the place for some foreign terrorists!
So, zealots of the church of SNOBamessiah like MikeH seek out the right's bogeymen this past weekend while ignoring their messiah's obvious change of mind.....pathetic!
VERO POSSUMUS!
Cee,
You'll love this then. Only on the Olby channel! "Death of Habeas Corpus (1215-2006) par Through a Glass, Darkly"
http://www.strimoo.com/video/14590717/Death-of-Habeas-Corpus-12152006-par-Through-a-Glass-Darkly-MySpaceVideos.html
Yes, CountDung....those "enemies" of George Bush were really rounded up and destroyed in 2006, 2007 and 2008.....Keith Olbermann's predictions about the state of our country in the clip you provided was proved to be wrong with time....yet?....no retraction.
Now, as Obama continues to pursue the very same measures in keeping terrorists out of our US court system for very good reasons (national security, etc), Keith Olbermann will never be as breathless and critical as he was with Bush.....Why? How can a "journalist" be one way with one political power and another way with another? Good questions to ponder.
And the blatant contradiction on how the GITMO prisoners are being handled by Obama and how the Bagram Air Base prisoners are being handled....no comment from the once apoplectic left wing fringe.....Why? Well, we know how politics works.
The church of SNOBamessiah cynically used the war on terror as a poltical bludgeon on Bush and the republicans, fear mongering fellow Americans to believe their civil rights were in jeopardy. Now? Well, the messiah is only making rational and right decisions....nothing to fear.
History will not be so blind once emotions fade and facts remain. Obama is a hypocrite for invoking those fear drivers as a candidate and now, as Presdient, pursuing the very same positions with regard to the rights of POW's and their access to US courts. The same with warrentless wiretapping and the use of military force in Iraq. Hypocrisy.
This is yet another check on my list of "told-you-so's" regarding the anti-America left and their true motives.
VERO POSSUMUS!
It's starting to appear that I was wrong about President Obama's commitment to national safety. I'm happy to say I was wrong. To be fair there are some policies on the left that could work in this country but when it comes to national security this far left crap isn't going to cut it and Obama knows it. Without question it's hypocritical but every politician says what they need to say to get elected. And Olbermann says whatever he needs to say to keep his, ahem, "fanbase", watching.
To other business, I asked MikeH a goddamn question and because his intellectual capacity is (allegedly) bigger than the moderators of this site I expect an answer. Or are you going to hide under your desk for another two weeks? Speaking of hypocrite I guess we all know what that "H" stands for.
cjflan, from 2004 on, Obama was a participant in the demogouery, the fear mongering, the vitriol dedicated at George W. Bush. It was a POLITICAL calculation on the part of the left's ruling class that there would be NO limit to what would be brought out against the administration in order to reverse the political calculus that had the Democrats in the minority and out of the executive branch for two straight elections.
Now, those very same arguments used to tarnish Bush are not in play by the very cynical politicians and supportes that breathlessly claimed our republic was in danger. The very arguments about military intervention, rights afforded to captured terrorists and domestic intelligence gathering are now muted. No more "fascist!" No more "resign!"
And the most recent example is the radical left's search for the unpatriotic bogeyman on the right that wants "America to fail." The wonderful news on the successful end of the hostage standoff is yet another calculated meme for the left as they try to paint any Republican as against America's success.....in other words.....UNPATRIOTIC.
The hypocrisy is neverending. People like MikeHypocrite should not even be responded to because they are dishonest.
Well Cee, I guess that's what I meant, I was just trying to be nicer about it :).
Politicians say whatever they have to say and do whatever they have to do, Democrats, Republicans and Independents are no different. You don't think the GOP is skulking around looking for their moment? I have no doubt that the Democratic Party is the party of lies and hypocrisy and anti-patriotism but George W. Bush could done some things better and if he had maybe the GOP would still be in power.
As for Olbermann he's garbage and he's always going to be garbage no matter who's president. One day he's going to fall into the hole he's dug and never get out.
As for MikeHypocrite, I think he is worth responding to because he's (allegedly) smarter than all of us and if that's (allegedly) true then he should have an answer to a simple question I posed to him.
You don't think the GOP is skulking around looking for their moment?
###
Sure they are! But if anyone from the Republican side with any leverage like Pelosi, Obama or Reid had in 2005, start to question the honor and success of US military missions based only on the political impact it will have in an election, I will be the first to say so!
That has not been happening from, yet the left demands 100% fealty to Obama or else it is couched as, "wanting America to fail." That is the strawman that a guilty person erects for their past identical deeds.
Olbermann must be held accountable for the lies, hypocrisy and smears he has been a party to in order to advance his personal ideological agenda. MikeH has yet to respond regarding a similar claimed JOURNALIST on the right....Fox News is clear on who is a pundit, who is a reporter, who is a commentator.....MSNBC has been dishonest in that aspect and makes Olbermann the worst of propaganda tools.
So, will we see a tomb stone inscribed with HABEAS CORPUS tonight on COUNTDOWN for the actions of Obama last Friday?.....I highly doubt it. A SPECIAL COMMENT about how we are treating the human beings at Bagram Air Base and how it hurts our image and shows American is not willing to live up to the Geneva Convention? ....Nope.
Yep...you're right....MikeHypocrite does think he is superior to others, a la his once nice statement that my thinking should be cut of of our country like a cancer....This while I was engaging him about the anti-America rhetoric coming from Olbermann in response to actions taken by Bush for the preservation of freedom in Iraq.
It is ok for him to call people like Hannity, Limbaugh and others unpatriotic now that his ideological fellow traveler steers the ship of state....but when we do it......we are wrong!
BTW, I will bet ANYONE anything that if George Bush had done the SAME EXACT THING this weekend, and the result was the same, the left (including Obama) would have responded thusly......
"With this aggressive action, Bush is creating more pirates!"
Why? Because any success seen in the war on terror was marginalized by the left with that nontruth.
I even have the quotes the media would use to support the idea that killing those three pirates and the helicopter passes over Somalia pirate bases that have continued is going to have unintended consequences.....
"More than 250 hostages of many nationalities are still being held along the Somali coast by pirates who have seized dozens of vessels, from tankers to yachts, in recent months.
"Helicopters once again flew over pirate bases near Eyl on the Somali coast overnight after Phillips' rescue.
"'They killed our friends on the lifeboat and we thought helicopters would bomb us in Eyl last night,' a pirate in Eyl, who called himself Farah, told Reuters.
"'We were mourning for dead friends and then roaring planes came -- grief upon grief. America has become our new enemy.'"
http://www.reuters.com/article/marketsNews/idUSN1235409220090413
###
Remember when attacking terrorists created more terrorists, according to the anti-America left? Why is the left no calling our navy's activity "US HEGEMONY" like they did in regards to facing the terrorists in Afghanistan and Iraq?
Different questions, but the same answer as to the questions above....Obama is the president, so America can kill people again and it will not be used as political ad fodder by the left.
VERO POSSUMUS!
Well the ball is now rolling. Ed is really hammering it home now, saying there won't be a "Mission Accomplish" banner up and where are all those righties who said that Obama couldn't handle that "3 am phone call" and all that stuff. BIG DEAL!
While it's great that the SEALS got the Captain out of it, but you KNEW these idiots were now going to praise him and how "stately" and how this is a President who won't sit back and will take charge.
BULL!
I'm gonna give credit where credit is due. From the Commander -In -Chief, right down the line of command to the snipers and all the sailors and merchant marines. Thank you for a job well done!!
I agree with you Dan, he put his foot down and laid down the law on them. I just hope that the left doesn't take it too far overboard on all this. The right should praise him (Obama) for a job well done, but don't go any further cause you'll be putting more fuel for their fire.
I'm gonna give credit where credit is due. From the Commander -In -Chief, right down the line of command to the snipers and all the sailors and merchant marines. Thank you for a job well done!!..ObserverDan
The problem with anybody stating "I told you so" is beyond me. This, as Dan said, is a job well done, plain and simple. Not to show the "right" that he could do the job, but that Obama, as an American president followed through as a true Commander-In-Chief should.
We should all be proud of all the Americans that did their job yesterday, and give kudos where kudos are due, and they start with President Obama.
If olbermann wants to "go off" for an hour about how wonderful "his" president is, well for one day I'll lay off him, because it also happens to be the one time I'll agree with him. Unfortunately, he will probably make this out to be a "partison" victory, and not an American victory, but even his BS will not take this great day from Obama and for America from me.
Good job Mr. President!
Obama had to sign something twice. His lawyers didn't like the first one (Friday night) so they made him sign another one Saturday morning. It gave the navy permission to take action as they see fit.
They should of been able to take action as they saw fit in the first place. Obama had absolutely nothing to do with this but you're all swallowing the administrations marching orders to the media. He didn't tell them to shoot the pirates with snipers or any such thing. There is no credit due accept for the navy commander who would have had to take the blame if things went wrong.
"And I want to be very clear that we are resolved to halt the rise of privacy in that region." President Obama, 4/13/09
