Olbermann Watch, "persecuting" Keith since 2004

    Countdown: Monday Recappers Thread

This is the recappers thread for Monday's Hour of Spin. If you can stomach the infamous, deplorable Keith Olbermann, post your analysis of his outrageous fictions right here. Comments are open!

Before I erase Friday's "O'Reilly Factor" from my DVR, I'll share a few standout viewer e-mails:
Kris Wilson, San Marcos, TX: "Bill, if hate speech was so wrong you'd be banned from Britain."
Bill's response: "Ah, sure, Kris. Have another swig of Kool-aid, will ya? Or is that hate speech?"

Kathie Ampela, Staten Island, NY: "The price you pay for having free speech in this country is that there are a lot of stupid, irresponsible people who abuse it." [MC Editorial: Are you listening, Keith?]
    Bill's response: "No doubt."

Bonnie Berlinski, Bayville, NJ: "Bill, I happen to be a supporter of gay marriage but I recognize that Miss California has been smeared because of her beliefs primarily by people on the left. What hypocrites."

Duane Brown, Spokane, WA: "Bill, had Miss California simply said 'I believe the same thign President Obama believes about marriage,' she would have been home free."

Katy is on the Weather Channel right now.

I think she and Mike Bettes have a thing going on. They look really friendly. And she does have a squeaky voice.

If I'm Keithy, I would be worried that Katy would be enamored with a REAL man like Bettes than a fat piece of $hXt like Olby!

Come on guys, enough with the Katy jokes. This site is better than that.

#5: Cheney! Torture! [Ding!] Olby and the Perfesser.
#4: Cheney praises Limbaugh! Eugene "Geno" Robinson.

    Oddball: Choco-mobile.
    BPitW: An orangutan does something.

#3: A supposed dissection of the eeevil O'Reilly's Talking Points Memo (video) from Friday night (transcript): "President Obama, Winston Churchill, and Torture." The T-Points was followed by the Top Story segment with *two Democrats*: Marj Halperin and Nancy Skinner. Natch, the ladies disagreed with Bill. Dissent, Keith. Dissent. Try it out on your show some time. Unfortunately, there is no video of the segment, but there is a LexisNexis transcript, which also features T-Points.
Back on OlbyPlanet, this would normally be a Factor Fiction situation, but instead it's more like a Special Education Komment. The trademark indignation and faux outrage reared their ugly heads once again. Torture! [Ding!] Take my word for it. I'm not recapping it...at least not now.

I generally just laugh at Turley but I'm getting really tired of him equating anything we might of done with Nazi Germany "following orders" defenses. I understand the theory but come on, there's an enormous difference b/w murdering Jews and enhanced interrogation. Turley and Dean (KOs go to lawyers) are embarrassments to the profession. Turley is the epitome of everything that is wrong with plaintiffs lawyers. Ok. I'm done.

Pitiful! Keithee's lame attempt to counter Bill O's Winston Churchill observations from last week
were weak. Give it up, KO. You came across looking incredibly stupid.

Since Olby has made his living off nitpicking, I'll do the same. Olby made a comment about George Marshall wanting to gas the Japs (sorry very un-PC term) but the US ultimately made the "right decision" to not gas and chose another means to end the war. That other means happened to be 2 nukes. I'm gong to go out a limb here and say Japan probably wouldve rather had the gas...

Tried watching Countdown and it gave me a headache.

However, I read an article on MLB.com about Derrick Lee and Micah Hoffpauer of the Cubs--my team--and I agreed with it. I then threw up in my mouth just a little bit.

I forgot to say that the article was from Olbermann. But I suppose that could have been assumed, huh?

help me out here...if 9/11 jokes are all over the line then why is Obamas joke about Air Force One flyover OK? And it's too bad that Olby and Wolffman didn't take the approach of " oh well if Obama can turn criticism into a joke how bad can it really be" with Bush. I'm pretty sure ole Dubya turned all criticism into jokes for about 8 yrs...

I haven't made any Katy jokes. I'm hardly in a joking mood when her name comes up, nor when her man comes up.

Back to my recap, Keith wanted to be so serious on his point that he didn't use the Ted Baxter voice while reading a parsed transcript, there was no big-head-on-the-little-body image of our humble and much-maligned correspondent, and no crude jokes were made. Keith ran edited video of T-Points.

Stop the DVR! Let's post the full transcript (asterisks indicate what Keith played):
"President Obama has made his position clear to the world. The United States will no longer use enhanced interrogation methods when questioning high-value captured terrorists. In fact, only Army Field Manual rules will apply, and they are essentially no rough stuff at all, in any form.
In his press conference last week, the president justified his new interrogation orders by pointing to Winston Churchill:
    (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: Churchill said we don't torture. When the entire British — all of the British people were being subjected to unimaginable risk and threat, and then the reason was that Churchill understood you start taking shortcuts, and over time, that corrodes what's best in the people. It corrodes the character of a country.
    (END VIDEO CLIP)
Well, "The Factor" was on the air just a few minutes after the president spoke, and I said this:
    (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
O'REILLY: Just one problem with that answer, Mr. President, with all due respect here. I'm not trying to nitpick. The British government uses very, very rough techniques on captured terrorists. Ask the IRA. And the SAS is an extremely feared force all over the world. Now, I don't want to Monday morning quarterback, but maybe Britain was not the best example there.
    (END VIDEO CLIP)
Since then, "The Factor" has been investigating Winston Churchill's position on waging war and interrogating the enemy. Aided by Boston University History Professor Cathal Nolan, we have found out the following:
    • *Churchill wanted to use poison gas on the Germans in violation of the Geneva Convention but was stopped by the British War Cabinet.*
    • *The Royal Air Force killed hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, of civilians by targeting non-military sites.*
    • *And the British operated a number of interrogation centers during and after World War II, including one called the London Cage, where German prisoners were beaten, deprived of sleep and threatened with death.*
*Another center in Bad Nenndorf, on German soil, was almost like a concentration camp.* British government documents detail terrible torture inflicted on Germans.
The point is that in every war brutal things are done. Some are flat out wrong. Some are necessary to win.
*President Obama's British example was wrong.* Winston Churchill was a true hero. His strong leadership helped save his country from Hitler, but he did brutal things, as FDR did, as Harry Truman did. So enough with the platitudes, Mr. President. Let's understand what we are dealing with here.
Right now, the Taliban are murdering civilians in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Al Qaeda continues its worldwide terror jihad, with America as the No. 1 target. It is not against American values to protect ourselves, and the president should have the power to order tough interrogation techniques, including the non-lethal waterboarding, if lives are at risk. But the president alone should make that call. That would not corrode our values. It is a rational policy that understands the brutal nature of the war we are waging.
By the way, Winston Churchill would approve.
    And that's "The Memo.""

Wow, all that and all Herr Olbermahn played was a little bit.
The above text was mostly from the FOXNews.com transcript. Let's head over to LexisNexis as the Top Story segment began.
"Now for the top story tonight, the other side of the issue. Joining from us Michigan, radio talk show host Nancy Skinner. And from Chicago, Marj Halperin, a Democratic strategist.
Based upon the president's statement, and our research Ms. Halperin, I don't believe that Barack Obama understands what Britain did during World War II. Am I wrong?"
    And off we went.

But as I said, Keith stopped at "President Obama's British example was wrong" and shot back with insults. So, I guess it wasn't indignation, but there was sure outrage. Mocking did occur, but with a serious tone. But for all intents and purposes, it was a SEK. Play the clip, knock him down, repeat verbally what he said, knock him down some more.
This went on for 8 minutes and 57 seconds, but I stopped at 3:31 when Man on Fan quoted Churchilll's 1944 secret memo.
I hope your ratings poundings continued tonight, Keith. You deserve it, you flaming fraud.

#2: The Media Matters Minute. Worse was Richard Johnson and the New York Post's Page Six. I have no idea which blue blog tipped Rip 'n Read off. This may just be a "hate News Corp" play. So, here is the original column. As you can see, it's about Luke Russert. Keith stuck up for his network and implied that Johnson would be fired. "See ya...Dick [Ding!]." He then added, "Mark this: they will have gone after me again by Friday now." Good. You deserve it...jerk.

Worser was Newt Gingrich. Blue blog source: HuffPo. You wouldn't know that by watching the Hour of Spin. "Source: Fox News." Uh-huh. Sure it is.

Worst was Brian Kilmeade. Blue blog source: Priscilla at Newshounds. Yet again, Supergeniusmann is up to bat for the deceptive dogs. In lieu of quoting, a clip was run. I'm skipping the rest and going to...

#1: The White House Correspondents' Dinner. The guest for this segment? The Wolffe Man. Good night.

I unintentionally wrote "you deserve it, [insulting name]" twice. I was going to apologize, but he *did* deserve it...doubly.

Keith won't debate a person with an opposing point of view because he is incapable. MSNBC has a 7 million dollar teleprompter reader. When Keith was on Bill Maher's show recently he could barely handle the soft ball questions from Bill. Keith is a mental midget.

Keith's counter to the BOR t-points was great...for a third grader. Keith is the laughing stock.

    Olbermahn's ratings are dropping
    The floor O'Reilly is mopping
    With "One million Keith"
    (He'll soon fall beneath)
And Chris, Ed and Madcow are flopping

This is off topic, but the O'Reilly Factor has become a place where feminists go to get trashed.

Olberdouche and his Ag School degree
Maybe he can get back his money
    Or send in more boxtops
    Before Cornell stops
    Their Bovine University

At least they come on, CJ. And here the segment in which the feminist, Meghan Daum, appeared. She was joined by Cathy Renna, formerly of GLAAD, now of Renna Communications.
While we're at, Pinheads & Patriots featured racebaiter Janeane Garofalo. Fatso the Cat was posthumously a Patriot, so guess what Garofalo was. More of Griff Jenkins' ambush was shown on "Hannity" and Griff himself was interviewed.

By cjflan32Author Profile Page on May 11, 2009 11:43 PM

Those so called 'feminists' are not worth the powder to blow them to hell in my opinion.

They don't even raise an eyebrow when consevative women such as Sarah Palin and Phyllis Schaffly are being crucified. In fact, a lot of them bring extra nails.

But all hell breaks loose when BOR very astutely compares Helen Thomas cackle to the voice of the Wicked Witch of the West. That dingbat from the LAT, in addition to appearing physically challenged to simply look as if she were paying attention, defended their deafening silence not supporting Carrie Prejean with the absurd notion that Ms Prejean is grownup and really too insignificant to defend.

I just heard the very distasteful insulting sexual 'joke' that Wanda Sykes made about Sarah Palin at the WHCD, with her husband (would a man have tried that in front of her husband?) present. So far, not a word of protest from the so called feminists about the joke OR the laughter that it engendered. l

The feminist movement has never been about evening the playing field in a realistic way that takes into account the differences between men and women, virtually all of which is based on indisputable biology and observed differences in brain function, and has always been just another spoke in the far left radical wheel.

Gee, CJ, I think you touched a nerve. I commented about this at J$P but much more calmly.

Personally, I think BOR let her off far too easy. She left a tank track open for him to comment on the ever lovely Helen Thomas certainly being eons into grown up status yet she had been defended vociferously over the relatively innocuous cackle joke.

What would the reaction have been if BOR had even hinted in reference to the ever lovely and gracious Helen Thomas at the obscene abortion that was KO and that hermaphrodite Musto last week attacking Carrie Prejean.

Sleep tight, everyone. The sweet little gray haired butter wouldn't melt in my mouth old lady Grammie is off to bed. :)

Just wondering how nice it would have been for Wanda Sykes to really be an honest comedienne and take on both parties at the WHCD. You know hearing something like this would have been great:

Hey Pres, nice job in allowing that jet to buzz the people of New York, because not only does the Big Apple have a sewer problem below the ground, but one on top now too. HA! HA! (followed by great laughter from the crowd).

Ms. Pelosi, we all know you had no idea of any torture techniques used during Bush's term, but how about asking the new president if he thinks driving your head so far up his ass that that might be considered cruel and inhuman torture too? HA! HA! (followed by even louder laughter).

    ...and lastly.

Hey Olbermann, yeah you in the orange skin outfit, is it true that the last time you ever confronted anybody it turned out to be when you talked to yourself in front of the mirror, and you mother scolded you for soiling another pair of underwear? Where you going Keify? Keify? It was only a joke. (followed by a standing ovation).

    I can dream can't I?

And in regards to Grammie's astute post. To put it all in perspective to how unfair the press and liberals have been to Palin, put every nasty word that was ever said about Palin into O'Reilly's mouth, and assume that Palin was a democrat and the hypocrisy hits you like a mack truck when you compare that with his little comment about cackling.

Just do it, you far left phonies who view this site. You are there, and I know you are reading this so I'll say it again. Think of Palin as a democrat, and then remember ALL the hateful things that were said about her, and replace the voices of this hate with the one voice of O'Reilly and then could you HONESTLY say to yourselves that if this were true, that what Bill said about Palin was nothing, but what he said about Helen Thomas was horrendous?

No, I didn't think so because you can't even be truthful with yourselves.

I just watched the clip from KO's little web site entitled, "Bill-O seeks to justify torture". Did Olby even watch BOR's talking points memo? I truly believe he never saw the tape and is just reading from the teleprompter, aka Will Ferrell from the movie "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy". So I watched BOR's talking points memo again. The memo had absolutely nothing to do with justifying torture. It had to do with Obama citing Winston Churchill to justify his new interrogation orders of no EIT's. C'mon, Keith. That was a stretch even for you.

I still have to watch the videos (ech), but it seems a quick review shows Olbermann did not cover Pelosi's descent into Bill Clinton territory regarding her recollections of important CIA briefings over what she now wants to call torture...Democrats are such good liars until facts are accepted by their apologists!

Wolverine you are so right. Those who read these posts and simply remain in their little self-created worlds of denial regarding the hypocrisy and hatred of a small class of narcissistic ideologues should think about typing a defense in this little box here. The lack of such responses is telling.

I cannot wait to see for myself Olbermann's lack of integrity regarding Bill O'Reilly's well done coverage of Obama's gaffe regarding Churchill. Intellectual honesty demands a full accounting of history and when anti-America leftists overlook the actions done by the allies, including great patriotic Americans, to secure victory FOR LIBERTY because it violates their simplistic and selfish sensabilities in their safe ivory towers like Rockefeller Center, well....they simply look foolish.

Lastly, did Olbermann address his opinion about the 9/11 joke he was contemplating as over the line when asked by the talented Harry Smith? I salivate in anticipation for finding another example of Olbyocricy (sp?).

Keiths boy Eugene Robinson was absolutely destroyed this morning on Morning Joe. Liz Cheney (vps daughter) was on and she just shredded Eugene, Barnicle, and Sorkin. It was a 3-1 fight and she did an incredible job.

    KO under 1,000,000!

Listening to Olbermann last night. I usually like his insights -not so much his drama queen antics, but tonight he slammed O Reilly's criticism of Obama's Churchill claim. This time Olberman is off his mark and O Reilly wins. Changing historical facts was a stupid ploy by Keith.
1.Keith assumes captured nazi agents weren't tortured.
In fact they were threatened with execution commonly if they didn't give info. And German agents were executed. Allied agents were tortured, executed and sometimes sent to concentration camps. He's suggesting Brit counter intelligence never tortured German agents to protect their own agents is sheer stupidity.

2.Keith said Churchill was noble because he was questioning the destruction of Dresden, Germany and massive civilian casualties. Errr, Keith that was happening at the end of the war 1945.... the Brits were always terror bombing German cities from 1940 with Churchill's blessing!!!!

3.Keith makes up excuses that the reference Churchill used about using poison gas on German civilians 'wasn't the lethal kind'..... Keith- don't be a sap -> it's torture bombing.

4.Keith stated Churchill only asked about poison gas bombing of German industrial areas in 1944. Wrong Keith - first people are in those industrial areas and many of then european slave labourers.
Secondly, Churchill demanded poison gas be used in 1940-> in retaliation for the horrific German air bombing of the British city of Coventry. He was ONLY talked out of it by his own airforce commanders.

    5. Churchill as colonial secretary after WW1 was for poison gassing kurds in Iraq -even kurd villages to repress their anti-colonialism activities - fact.
Poison gas that was meant to be non-lethal but could kill however. Being subject to poison gassing is torture Keith- don't try to 'nice it up'.

    One source;
    http://www.globalresearch.ca/articles/CHU407A.html

Obama got bad advice to use Churchill as some sterling peaceful leader. Churchill could be col bloodied- some say he told Brit intel not to warn the USA about their warning on the Pearl Harbour attack. Churchill also launched a horrible murderous campaign at Gallipoli in World War One.

Keith Overboardman still on TV , I thought he was in a straight jacket headed off to bellevue ...or is that what they call MSNPU now

Never had I wanted to hurl my TV more than when his show came on, and he still hasnt wiped that white ring off his lips ..

Exactly, joe123. The "Lie-On King" was so off with that entire segment that he looked like a buffoon.

    Good comment and link, Joe.

I revere Churchill as the greatest man of the 20th century, even more so than my beloved Ronaldus Magnificus.

"Secondly, Churchill demanded poison gas be used in 1940-> in retaliation for the horrific German air bombing of the British city of Coventry"

I've heard the following story as both fact and as speculation. I suspect if it is not true it is apocryphal.

According to the story Enigma gave the Brits a heads up about the Coventry raid that, had they acted on it, would have saved the civilian population and possibly prevented some of the infrastructure damage.

Churchill decided that even a hint of their acquisition of Enigma to the Nazis far outweighed their natural desire and obligation to preserve innocent British lives.

Perhaps Churchill's considering using poison gas in retaliation for Coventry might have been motivated and spurred on if the above story were true.

Obama got that info about Churchill from a far left loony Andrew Sullivan. He's the guy that STILL believes Bristol's baby is really Sarah Palin's. It's very comforting to know Obama gets his knowledge from leftwing wackos. Sorta like Odormann.

I posted back on May 1 regarding Obama's error, "Churchill said we do not torture," with the following:

"Regarding torture, I am sure Keith Olbermann overlooked a HUGE contradiction in Obama's response to a question during his presser Weds......

"'President Barack Obama's grandfather, Hussein Onyango Obama, must be turning over in his grave.

"'Winston Churchill — the man who ordered his torture during the Kenyan war of independence — was being praised by his grandson for not using torture. What a laugh.

"'Obama cited Britain as a country that never resorted to torture during war during his prime-time press conference on Tuesday night.

"'London was being bombed to smithereens [and] had 200 or so detainees. And Churchill said, 'We don't torture,'' Obama said. 'Churchill understood, you start taking shortcuts, and over time, that corrodes what's best in a people.'

"'Excuse me, Mr. President: Churchill did condone torture and he did use torture — and advocated using poison gas and concentration camps. And he was quite proud to do so, writing about it frequently as a means to an end.

"'I don’t know whose Kool-Aid Obama was drinking, but it must have been supplied by the British Embassy in bucketfuls."

"So, in addition to FDR and Truman, we can add Churchill as a war criminal! I suppose the sanctimonious Olbermann will have a SPECIAL COMMENT soon passing judgement on all of these bad men.

    "Sure....right....and Musto's a virgin.

"It is obvious the biased media is prepared to allow Obama get away with all kinds of lies and sophistry. It is going to be a very long four years in regards to truth and rational debate."

Olbermann is an idiot, and that fact was proven again last night on COUNTDOWN.

    But cee,

His uncle (that was 5 at the time) liberated Auschwitz. Idiotic historians say Russia liberated Auschwitz.

Ah, once again, the intellectual dishonesty, hypocrisy and idiocy of the radical left laid bare in a simple statement:

"It's the same answer that the president of the United States gave. [Carrie Prejean] gave an honorable answer. She gave an answer from her heart."

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0509/22413.html

    ###
Will this be a part of Olbermann's COUNTDOWN tonight? Will there be rational, honest and respectful debate over an issue of conscience with Miss California and Barack Obama on one side, Keith Olbermann and Michael Musto on the other side?

The best part of all this is that Olbermann made a SPECIAL COMMENT several months ago basically saying that opposition to gay marriage is a position of hate.....In Olbermann's formula, both Miss California and Barack Obama are haters...WONDERFUL!

***BREAKING NEWS***: CARRIE PREJEAN WILL KEEP HER CROWN!!! In your face, Olby, Musto, and Perez Hilton!

I couldn't tell from the wording in the Politico piece, but I think you beat me to it, Cee.

I wonder if KO and the creep Musto will take on the Donald with the same glee and abandon they went after a relatively defenseless very young woman?

    Hi Grammie- thanks.

I'm a bit of a World War 2 buff.... I watched a very good documentary regarding the Battle of Britain. They had in interviews, people close to Churchill at that time. Churchill knew from his British Intelligence services that Coventry was going to be hit hard. He made a sad decision to not alert Coventry for fear of compromising the intelligence network which sent him that accurate info. Churchill had much to bear for his decision which would cost lives he could have saved....

As it happened, Coventry was bombed very badly and Churchill was enraged. As the interview of the documentary explained, Churchill was nearly demanding Germany be the target of poison gas attacks. His air fleet commanders calmed him down and talked him out of the serious proposal. This was in 1940..... 20 years after Churchill so no problems with Kurd rebels being gassed and 4 years before Keith's idea that Churchill didn't want to use 'harmful' poison gas on the Germans which the War Cabinet denounced. Keith misses the point it was Churchill alone putting forth the proposal to poison gas the Germans-and potentially foreign slave labourers brought into German industrial areas by the nazis.

    And here's the kicker,
    Look at this book review I just scanned through at this link;
    http://www.newcriterion.com/articles.cfm/Up-in-smoke-3866
It quotes Churchill again in favour of more gassing as how he states it specifically to induce TERROR

You know Olby is going to jump all over Trump tonight for his comments about Miss California and his decision to let her keep her crown.

The full Trump-Prejean presser can be viewed here. In the first minute, Trump took a shot at the Miss America pageant, but other than that, I was satisfied.

    Grammie,

Olby has trashed Trump in the past I just hope he goes too far.

Hi, Joe. I'm not really a buff but I never pass up anything about WWII and Churchill. History's two most cruelly murderous men, Hitler and Stalin, sharing an age and a geographic area and what they wrought on the world simply boggles the mind. I think it fascinates me b/c I want to understand that which defies understanding.

Although it was probably fifty years ago when I was quite young I read Churchill's six volume history of WWII.

Thanks for the link, it was a very good read. According to Andrew Roberts they did have info via Enigma but had not yet identified the code word "Korn" as Coventry.

They had some info thru regular intelligence and defenses, including radar installation, that had been upgraded several weeks earlier gave them just three hours concrete warning.

Roberts also seems to think that all that could be done defensively was done.

The author's tactics put me in mind of KO and blogs such as News Hounds which obviously makes his work nothing more than one big lie.

    Yes Grammie-
that's why I popup here and there in WW2 debates because people rely on one 'history mini-websites' too often rather than really study a vast array of sources to get the real / close to the truth.
One thing I know is the best historians themselves go loopy against actual facts when they have an agenda to either attack a character they don't like or defend someone they personally admire- ie, objectivity is thrown away- as in Roberts the twisted reviewer's case being a churchill worshipper who believes contrary to the fact Coventry was known it was going to be hit and purposefully left defenceless and no warnings were activated because it was left out to dry deliberately, he still defies that known event in favour of his 'niced up' fantasy.

This is KO's problem too as he was only seeking what he desired in his agenda to prop up Obama who himself didn't research facts -as with a number of historical event references he's made lately. It's fine to make honest mistakes, but to smugly act as if what one says is the truth is damaging -in this case to KO and Obama... and Rachel Maddow herself gave praises to KO's defence of Churchill's brand of Poisonous Gas attacks -very bad day indeed on msnbc yesterday for those supposedly fighting for the 'defenceless' civilians while themselves giving excuses- much like Cheney has done. Torture and violent harm are what they are and people should just admit it on both sides instead of 'nice-ing' those things up through excuses.

I simply googled "London Cage." Wow, a different perspective than what Professor Olbermann gave last night.....

Olbermann claimed, "Only one credited accusation of torture there has ever been raised," with regard to the "London Cage."

OK, I am not sure, but I think this is a credible source for rebuttal:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2005/nov/12/secondworldwar.world

"Within the National Archives are documents from two official inquiries into the methods employed at the Cage, one which heard evidence that guards were under orders to knock on some prisoners' cell doors every 15 minutes, depriving them of sleep, and another which concluded with 'the possibility that violence was used' during interrogations.

"There is also a long and detailed letter of complaint from one SS captain, Fritz Knoechlein, who describes his treatment after being taken to the Cage in October 1946. Knoechlein alleges that because he was 'unable to make the desired confession' he was stripped, given only a pair of pyjama trousers, deprived of sleep for four days and nights, and starved.

"The guards kicked him each time he passed, he alleges, while his interrogators boasted that they were 'much better' than the 'Gestapo in Alexanderplatz'. After being forced to perform rigorous exercises until he collapsed, he says he was compelled to walk in a tight circle for four hours. On complaining to Scotland that he was being kicked even 'by ordinary soldiers without a rank', Knoechlein alleges that he was doused in cold water, pushed down stairs, and beaten with a cudgel. Later, he says, he was forced to stand beside a large gas stove with all its rings lit before being confined in a shower which sprayed extremely cold water from the sides as well as from above. Finally, the SS man says, he and another prisoner were taken into the gardens behind the mansions, where they were forced to run in circles while carrying heavy logs.

"'Since these tortures were the consequences of my personal complaint, any further complaint would have been senseless,' Knoechlein wrote. 'One of the guards who had a somewhat humane feeling advised me not to make any more complaints, otherwise things would turn worse for me.' Other prisoners, he alleged, were beaten until they begged to be killed, while some were told that they could be made to disappear.

"At the time Knoechlein made these allegations he was facing the death penalty, having been convicted of the murder of 124 British soldiers, including 98 members of the Royal Norfolk Regiment. These soldiers had been massacred by men under Knoechlein's command after being taken prisoner on the retreat to Dunkirk in May 1940. He was in a desperate position, and may have been making desperate allegations in a bid to escape the hangman. Nevertheless, his complaint was taken seriously by War Office officials, who considered whether to convene an inquiry. They eventually decided against this, on the grounds that this would mean delaying Knoechlein's execution. There was no legal precedent for this, one official noted, besides which 'any court of inquiry into these allegations would be futile'."

It seems Olbermann decided to leave that little fact (in bold)out in his diatribe last night. The artlce continues...

"Similar torture allegations surfaced in 1947, and again the following year when 21 Gestapo and police officers were tried for the murder of 50 RAF officers who had been shot after tunnelling their way out of Stalag Luft III, the breakout recreated in the Hollywood film The Great Escape.

"The court in Hamburg was told that many of the defendants had been starved and systematically beaten at the London Cage, confined in the cold water shower, and 'threatened with electrical devices'. Among the defendants was Erich Zacharias, a sergeant in the Gestapo's frontier police. The only evidence against him was his confession which, MI5 noted in its assessment of Scotland's memoir, had been signed only because 'being a prisoner in their hands, he had been worked on psychologically'. Zacharias insisted that he had also been beaten. Twenty of the defendants were convicted and 14 were hanged, Zacharias among them.

"It is impossible to discern, from the War Office archives, whether Scotland was regarded by this time as a maverick whose methods were to be quietly overlooked, or whether he was acting with clear, official approval. It is clear, however, by late 1946 there was 'disquiet about his methods' being expressed at the headquarters of the British army of the Rhine."

    [...]

"Despite the growing number of complaints it was receiving about the London Cage, the International Committee of the Red Cross eventually decided to do nothing 'through official channels' as it had been assured that its closure was imminent, and because it feared such action would be against the interests of the men still detained there.

"As the work of the Cage was wound down, the interrogation of prisoners was switched to a number of internment camps in Germany. And there is evidence that the treatment meted out in these places was, if anything, far worse. While many of the papers relating to these interrogation centres remain sealed at the Foreign Office, it is clear that one camp in the British zone became particularly notorious. At least two German prisoners starved to death there, according to a court of inquiry, while others were shot for minor offences.

"In one complaint lodged at the National Archives, a 27-year-old German journalist being held at this camp said he had spent two years as a prisoner of the Gestapo. And not once, he said, did they treat him as badly as the British."

    ###
Olbermann was lying last night about allegations of harsh techniques used by the British during the era of Churchill. I have no problems with how the British conducted themselves, just like I have no problem with how my fellow Americans conducted themselves in handling Kahlid Sheik Muhammed or Abu Zabeda. I have a problem with the liar, Keith Olbermann, who is prepared to destroy the lives and reputations of patriots.

Olbermann concluded, "Churchill did not torture." He claimed President Obama was right. However, by the President's and Olbermann's definition of torture, Churchill, FDR and many, many, many other great and honorable leaders tortured....They committed war crimes by killing millions of civilians under the control of the axis powers if we are to stand in judgement of them like Olbermann and his ilk stand in judgement of Cheney and Bush.

    Intellectual honesty.

At least Jon Stewart had the sense to walk back from that line in regards to his sanctimonious conclusion about President Truman using the nuclear bomb against Japan....Olbermann has shown little sense to even consider such a good move.

    Olbermann is an idiot.

    Hi Cee-
I slammed Olbermann and Obama as ttruth twisters, but although you mention the German journalist not being mistreated by the Gestapo in comparison to British intel, make no mistake the Gestapo in particular used the worst torture methods possible to extract information as a routine. Captured Allied agents, resistance fighters, and hostages have all left volumes of such atrocious activities for people to research. Keith is a fool for assuming the Brit Intelligence wouldn't hush-hush alot of their torture activities against German agents. Obama was stupidly wrong in comparing interned n' German civilians to captured German agents in terms of who was tortured. Even the Nazis had internment camps to hold foreign nationals living in Germany [some of the thousands of blacks living in Germany at the time also being put in such 'alien' camps ->others put in concentration camps, and a few living in in Germany through the war too].
People should speak up regarding the truth when they see 'speakers' of their side lying/ scheming.

Via J$, the full Janeane Garofalo ambush interview has been posted at FOXNews.com.

You'll notice that some guy joined in affirming Janeane and standing up to the eeevil Griff Jenkins.
And in searching Google News for "'griff jenkins' garofalo," I found a Newshounds story that is sure to be source material for tonight's WPitW. Let's flash back to a comment I left in Friday's thread:
"... here are two segments from Thursday: the Talking Points Memo and Part 2 of the Top Story segment. (The guest for Part 1 was Sarah Baxter of "The Sunday Times" of London. There isn't video posted on FOXNews.com for that.)"
LexisNexis does have the transcript for Thursday's Personal Story segment with Bernie Goldberg. FOXNews.com has the T-Points transcript. Keep all this in mind if Keith launches Another O'Reilly Attack based on the hit piece Julie wrote at Newshounds, a website Rip 'n Read never has a problem batting for.

Ah, the #1 story on COUNTDOWN was the usual "quality" journalism that we usually see from Wolffe/Olbermann (sarcasm).

Wollfe said made the outrageous claim that Obama was alone in using self-depricating humor at these dinners while, "when Bush made jokes it tended to be about someone in the room that he was, frankly, being mean to."

They keep kissing the one's tuckess while lying about Bush. Bush is evil in Olbermann's world, I keep forgetting....And the reality?.....

    From WHCD, 2001....

GEORGE W. BUSH, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: ... from these scrapbooks and create a little slide show. And so Gordon, if everybody's cell phones are turned off, you can hit the lights.

Tonight, I present a "Bush Family Album." What you may not realize is that I grew up at a time in Texas history when it was still a rough-and-tumble frontier.

    (LAUGHTER)

BUSH: We were ranchers back then, and this was my favorite horse. He was sure-footed, steady. I trusted that horse totally. And here's the really weird part. His name was Dick Cheney.

    (LAUGHTER)

BUSH: But times were hard back then.

    (LAUGHTER)

BUSH: This, of course, was during the great drought of 1953. Dad, Neil, Dorothy, Marvin and Jeb. In my family, with all those kids in the tub, it's not arsenic in the water I'd be worried about,

    (LAUGHTER)

BUSH: Personally, I've always preferred a private bath. This is my actual first grade report card. Up top it says George W. Bush, and then notice the final grades on the right: Writing, A; reading, A; spelling, A; arithmetic, A; music, A; art, A. So my advice is, don't peak too early.

    [...]

BUSH: After graduation, I joined the Texas Air National Guard. I'm the one who committed the state of Texas to defend Taiwan from attack.

    (LAUGHTER)

    ###
Oh, and then we had Bush doing his schtick along side an impersonator in 2006....

Bush: "Ladies and gentlemen, I feel chipper tonight. I survived the White House shake-up."

Bridges: "Here I am at another one of these dang press dinners. Could be home asleep, little Barney curled up at my feet. Nooo. I gotta pretend I like being here. Being here really ticks me off. The way they try to embarrass me by not editing what I say. Well, let's get things going so I can get to bed."

Bush: "I'm absolutely delighted to be here. As is Laura.

    Bridges: "She's hot. Muy caliente."

Bush: "As you know, I always look forward to these dinners."

Bridges: "It's just a bunch of media types, Hollywood liberals, democrats like (Sen.) Joe Biden. How come I can't have dinner with the 36% of the people who like me? The only thing missing is Hillary Clinton sitting in the front row rolling her eyes."

Bush: "I am sorry Vice President Cheney couldn't be here tonight. "

Bridges: "You reporters would go nuts if you knew the true story. He was as drunk as a skunk. On one beer. Light beer. Oh, people were ducking and diving for cover. I wish I could have been there. I saw him walking down the hallway the other day. I looked at him and said, "Don't shoot."

Olbermann is an idiot.....So is Wolffe....Their Obama bias is well known, but now we have an example of their lying about recent history.

Cee, the part you put in bold is very telling and totally relevant to the situation today.

With enough time between the all too real fears, horrors and uncertainty of the early years of the war when England stood alone every society has their oh so morally superior Monday Morning Quarterbacks.

Hey, hey!....Congrats to J$ and Mr. Cox....Some of this site's parlance is making it into the universe.....

"I'm not sure what she means by designating Barry Goldwater a true conservative and then dating the death of conservatism to the year his ideological heir was elected, but maybe we'll figure it out in the comments. Fun fact: Minutes before this aired last night, over at MSNBC, the guy who egged on Garofalo during her now infamous descent into demagogic race-baiting insanity felt obliged to tut-tut Wanda Sykes for making jokes about 9/11. Calling Rush Limbaugh a hijacker in an obvious, if lame, attempt at humor? Too far. Smearing conservatives far and wide as racists and rednecks with the utmost seriousness? A-OK. That’s OLBYLOGIC for you. Exit question for Kayo: How come equating Limbaugh with a terrorist is no-go but saying Fox News is 'worse than Al Qaeda' is perfectly fine?"

Good job! Garofalo showed her ignorance of history with her rant about conservatism but we already know accuracy is not important to friends of Olbermann.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the first story on Countdown tonight will be VP Dick Cheney's interview with Cavuto on Fox News today. Cheney brought up Ronald Reagan a few times so this will give Olby another opportunity to slander a former Republican president.

Just a hunch but I think I will be pretty accurate.

No, actually, we are not above making Katy Tur jokes. There is no record of that type of reticence at this site, and I am here to uphold that fine tradition.

It's going to be a long 5 weeks for FatAss, wondering where his little Katy is and if she's going to be swept away by Pecos Bill.

History's two most cruelly murderous men, Hitler and Stalin, sharing an age and a geographic area and what they wrought on the world simply boggles the mind...Grammie

And let's not forget Hirohito who may have been even worse than the two of them. The Emperor of Japan from 1937 to the end of the war is responsible for killing possibly up to 30 million Asian civilians, and at least 6 to 10 million Chinese civilians during the years 1941 to 1945! In total China suffered 20 million deaths during that 4 year period with over 16 million being civilians!

It IS unbelievable with these 3 men having so much power and causing so many deaths that civilization somehow managed to survive.

Thank God we didn't use torture because in olbermann's eye's if we had we never would have won the war, as the Germans and Japanese would have been real mad at us if we did.

Even Japan issued a statement saying that they only bombed Pearl Harbor because they got word that we were thinking of using torture if we ever did enter the war.

Holy molt! The NBC news man has added a "WTF moment" segment to his show. Classy. fyi, WTF means what the fu_k

HOlly cow! this passes as news? So now KO is starting a war with Trump.....and his own network that broadcast? thanks for wasting 10 minutes of our time kO! what a waste....

I have some advice for MSNBC! GGET A LOT lifE

You've gotta love Keith's new "WTF" segment. Nevermind the fact that it's a complete rip off of The Factor's "Reality Check." Also note, that not only is Keith ripping off a popular segment of his arch nemesis's highly rated show, he simply can't do it (or anything for that matter), with class or integrity. Let's be clear here, WTF stands for "What the Fuck." Nice way to compliment the eight o'clock hour Keith, very elegant...

In addition, his Carrie Prejean WTF segment: Carried Prejean still has her title, even after a semi nude photo, and her outrageous agreement with the vast majority of the country (and the world) on the topic of gay marriage. What a bitch!

Keith, you slandered millions on American's using sexual explicit references and obscene language. Why? Because you simply disagreed with them. If you still have your job, then Carrie Prejean could pose for Hustler and set the photographer on fire, and still have good reason to keep her Miss California Crown.

Keith Olbermann is an embarrassment to Journalism. We all know you're reading...

I'd love to see the people at the Miss California or Miss USA pageants make the "corporate" decision that contestants may not hold a "radical" opinion such as one that is held by the current and former president/s, the majority of the country, and is historic and current U.S. law.

THAT would be a WTF, Keith! :D

Maybe Trump, Inc. could issue a list of "correct" answers when it comes to political guestions. Included in that list could be the list of the "fallout" pageant contestants should expect for not voicing the "proper" opinions:

***Pageant officials will leak info of any cosmetic enhancements (BTW--people in Keith's industry never engage in such appearance enhancing practices and female journalists never ever lowered themselves to enter beauty pageants when starting out...).

***Critics will comb your background for dirt.

***NBC News outlets will rake you over the coals on national television.

Or maybe the pageants should just go with the sort of fallout/threat to wayward constestants that Keith might just adore--

******@@@@Bill O'Reilly's camera crew will try to catch heretical contestants in hair rollers and without makeup!

Now there's some fallout Keith can really support!

Nice Cecelia. I also enjoyed Ann Coulter's snarky response to the kerfluffle....

"Not even Dick Cheney can incite the blood-curdling rage of liberals at the sight of a sexy Evangelical Christian. Paula Jones, Katherine Harris, Michele Bachmann, Sarah Palin and, most recently, Miss California, Carrie Prejean, have all come under a frenzy of attacks from liberals.

"Christians are supposed to be fat, balding sweaty little men with bad complexions. It's liberals who are supposed to be the sexy ones. (I know that from watching 'The West Wing' and all movies starring Julia Roberts.)

"But sadly for liberals, in real life, the fat, balding sweaty little guy with the bad complexion is Perez Hilton and the smoking-hot babe is Carrie Prejean."

    [...]

"a photographer released a single cheesecake photo of Prejean. This prompted liberal reporters who have never met a Christian to proclaim that Christians were outraged by the photo. Liberals believe abortion is a sacrament, but smoking, wearing short skirts and modeling lingerie are mortal sins. (And if wearing women's underwear is a basis for being disqualified from the pageant, that's the end of Perez Hilton's judging career.)"

    [...]

"Christians aren't people who believe they are without sin; they're people who know they're sinners and are awestruck by God's grace in sending his only Son to take the punishment they deserve.

"This is in contradistinction to liberals, all of whom believe they're on a fast track to heaven on the basis of being 'basically good' people -- and also believe that anyone who disagrees with that theological view is evil."

    [...]

"It's not as if Prejean's special talent in the Miss USA contest was to perform an opposite-sex marriage. (Or, as the president and I call it, "marriage.") She didn't even volunteer her 'controversial' views on marriage. Rather, she was asked for her opinion on gay marriage and gave it -- in an answer wrapped in so many layers of sugar it took 10 minutes to get to the point.

"'Well, I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one way or the other. We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. You know what, in my country, in my family, I do believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman, no offense to anybody out there. But that's how I was raised, and I believe that it should be between a man and a woman.'

"What a vicious hate-monger! Any second there I was expecting her to bust out a 'by golly!' or an 'oh my gosh!' Angry gay-marriage supporters should be happy they didn't get my version of that answer. It contains some terms you won't find in your Bible."

    [...]

"Now, another beautiful Christian has thrown off the liberal burqa, thereby inciting mass hysteria throughout the liberal establishment. Prejean doesn't care. She is blazing across the sky, as impotent nose-pickers jockey for a piece of her reflected light by hurling insults at her."

I think that was a good retort to Olbermann's explaination this week excusing his crazed angle in attacking Ms. Prejean. Hypocrisy, demogoguery, and irrational hatred were the components of Olbermann's and the radical left's reaction to Ms. Prejean's answer to Mr. Hilton's question while the other side simply asked, "Why such an angry and hate filled response?"

Again, another simple question; In our country currently, who compose the pitch fork and torch carrying mob seeking to tar and feather nonconformists, and what is their political affiliation?

The following red meat will be WAAAAY to tempting for the hounds on the left, including the misogynistic, pear-shaped Reverand Olbermann...

    May 13, 2009

"The liberal onslaught of malicious attacks against Carrie Prejean for expressing her opinion is despicable.

"Carrie and I spoke soon after the attacks started; I can relate as a liberal target myself. What I find so remarkable is that these politically-motivated attacks fail to show that what Carrie and I believe is also what President Obama and Secretary Clinton believe - marriage is between a man and a woman.

"I applaud Donald Trump for standing with Carrie during this time. And I respect Carrie for standing strong and staying true to herself, and for not letting those who disagree with her deny her protection under the nation's First Amendment Rights.

"Our Constitution protects us all - not just those who agree with the far left."

Ooo baby....more gasoline on the wonderfully warm culture war fire that serves as a wonderful distraction for the primitive mob on the left....Along with the "IT'S TORTURE!" debate, this is turning out to be a very fun week in America. America is coming together so well under the messiah!....the church of SNOBamessiah is such a healing force!

    VERO POSSUMUS!
