Wow. At least Rachel Maddow has the stones to criticize The One. She even gets a Countdown regular to help her out. But it's not like The Perfessor had a prior engagement, because as John Gibson explains, the infamous, deplorable one is so far in the tank for Barack Obama that when it comes time to cover his most recent flip-flop, well, what better time to change the subject?!?
After you enjoy this bit of fun, prepare to recap tonight's Hour of Spin. Are we taking bets for the WPitW segment? After all, someone dared to report on the real reason for Herr Olbermahn's strange three-day absence. Even worse, when Keith "Man on Fan" Olbermann tried to rebut the story using the sympathy card, that little ploy got blown out of the water with photographic evidence! A bad night on OlbyPlanet fer sure.
Do your recapping right here. Comments are open!
Holy crap i was right ( see yesterdays comments )
#5 The Spies Who Lied to Me
Really, is it this easy to predict KO, is he this far in the tank? Anybody who's sane knows Pelosi was lying her ass off today, and had to reread he lies during the Q&A. But not Olby.
Arrgh! The fact that the website screwed up the location of where the picture was taken will give Olby all the ammo he needs to argue the website is unreliable. It's interesting, however, that Olby feels it's necessary to dedicate an entire segment of his "news show" to addressing this point.
My observation of Afleck is that he is quite smart, and rather even-minded about political issues. Certainly a liberal, but not a hater of all things Republican and Conservative. That's why it comes as no surprise to me that he wasn't broken hearted to help diss Uber-Hater Olbermann. Moderate Liberals seem to prefer Maddow as she isn't afraid to have dissenting views exihibited on her show. Also, the idea of Olby having a tantrum over the whole deal seems so true to character. Douchenozzle!
Not WPITW, it looks like Cityfile's stories about Jimmy Legs' absence get the entire #1 spot tonight. Melodrama go!
J$, thanks for the Gibby preview. He doesn't come on til midnight in Louisville. Looks like that Keithy is going to believe Princess Pelosi's lies about the CIA briefings. Not a real surprise.
J$, thanks for the Gibby preview. He doesn't come on til midnight in Louisville. Looks like that Keithy is going to believe Princess Pelosi's lies about the CIA briefings. Not a real surprise.
btw i didn't really watch #5,
But I took a page out of Olby's guide for respectable journalism and just assumed he's taking Pelosi's side.
People are asking who the new voice of the GOP will be. I submit that it will be Nancy Pelosi and Barak Obama. What better way could revitalize the Republican Party than to these two incompetent liars running the show? How long before Keith throws Nancy under the bus? Will we see Nancy's brilliant press conference on the hour of spin?
lol no kidding Factor.
I really hope Nancy stays as speaker, because so far she's doing Republicans a lot of good and it's still 2009. But I think her actions today are going to warrant her a special meeting by Obama.
It will be interesting to see what KO says about that blog posting, which I thought was very good I might add. He knows he bailed out cause he got pissy cause Madcow got Afleck and he couldn't. So now he's going to get on and do his best, "cry me a river" speech. This is a TIVO moment, something to put up with KO's Gay rights speech that he gave last November. What is the over/under on KO saying "ember" or something that will bring out fake tears?
Strap yourself in folks, it's up next.
Hey Keith use Rush as a role model when someone says something nasty about you, IGNORE IT! When you attack it it just makes you look like a fooll..Booo Booooo KO got his feeling hurtnow he is going to water 10 minutes of broadcast time acting like a victim!
Don't you mean "under the bus [Ding!]," Factor?
Wow! Capt. Classy had to drop in that he "pays 7 figures in taxes"
This is really pathetic...what the hell is this about? ROFL! Im laughing! sorry its just too FUNNY!
Factor: "people are asking who the new voice of the GOP will be. I submit that it will be Nancy Pelosi and Barak Obama."
Not a chance as long as your party keeps allowing "liars" and hillarious laughing stocks like Rush Limbaugh and Sarah to be the face of the party.
Gawd that was so pathetic tonight. I kept waiting for him to mention this site here, but I think he was holding back. But still what a wuss. He never really mentioned about Robin's twitter post which fueled more fire. But NOOOOO. Of course he wouldn't. Then you had that cheesy "moment" with Madcow and KO at the end. How sappy was that crap?
Is this for real did anyone have a timer on to count how many he just wasted? all I have to to say is WTF was that all about!
He was yuckking it up not 4 days after his Mom died to use her as an intro to WPITW.
Is this for real did anyone have a timer on to count how many he just wasted? all I have to to say is WTF was that all about!
Wow! Capt. Classy had to drop in that he "pays 7 figures in taxes"
Hopefully this is not a double post but Olby really did drop in that he "pays 7 figures in taxes"
Re: Keith's Affleck Tantrum
Methinks he doth protest too much. So he doesn't think cityfile is worth anything but he gives a long-winded speech "debunking" their article using the "my mommy died" excuse. After all his unwarranted, unfounded attacks on everyone else I'm glad to see him get it back and you can tell it really got to him too. Good. I don't care if the story is true or not and I hope every blog on the internet comes up with a new daily smear for him to have to defend. In a few weeks his show will be nothing but defending against blog attacks and his ratings will fall even further into the toilet.
Also, he mentioned kidneys which probably means the stories about him wearing Depends are true too.
"Wow! Capt. Classy had to drop in that he "pays 7 figures in taxes"
I'd say that unlike many republicans these days, Keith understands that paying taxes is both a point of pride, AND a sign of patriotism.
Ya know, most Americans USED to undertand that principle during the years that made America the great country that it became, and well before the definition of patriotism was spun into self-serving personal selfishness by the Republican Party.
Poor Olby.
Another low point for his show.
Unable to realize that he was originally contracted by his employer to provide a service to its viewers via broadcasting a "news program", he has twice this week distracted the audience in a selfish attempt to protect his battered ego.
1) Use of the WTF segment (classy title by the way) to deflect his atrocious misogynistic practices to claim that she deserved the blow back because she ought to have been beholden to her employer - the same one who allowed her to keep her job! Miss CA may not have lost her job, but you did everything in your power to tear down her dignity. And the clear thinker sees right through you.
2) Use of tonight's segment to defend himself against something that everyone already knows. He wanted Affleck ever since the SNL skit to show how "cool" and "hip" he is with the liberal Hollywood establishment. Even those who poke fun at his expense.
Imagine if his superior rival, O'Reilly, were as insecure and adamant that he defend himself against every attack that comes his way.
Sorry, Olby. You are pathetic and insecure. And we see right through you.
Nice try there mikeHypodrite, except that the LIARS seem to be on YOUR side of the fence these days. How many different stories is Pelosi going to use in her defense? I think she's up to 5 different stories now. Did you see how her lips were quivering, her hands shaking, her fumbling around with her papers trying to find what she wrote down as this current excuse? Sad, very sad. Message to Pelosi, " DON'T LET THE DOOR HIT CHA ON THE WAY OUT". Yes mikehypocrite, how can you defend such idiots as Obama and Pelosi? Your president has flip flopped more than John Kerry. The old hag from Cali is going down and your party is going with her. In your eyes mikeH, you'd love it if RUSH or Sarah were the faces of our party, but they are not. The republican party WILL come back and be stronger than ever before. We're just looking for the right people to be our leaders as the current ones that we've had have been too weak and wimpy for our agenda. The democratic party's days are numbered. Time to wake up there mikey and smell the coffee.
Me think KO is really a member of the DHARMA initiative and they even got sick of him and sent him packing..LOL!!!! ( sorry a little lost humor for people that dont watch the show, he does kind of remind me of Horrace?)
irushbaby wrote: Wow! Capt. Classy had to drop in that he "pays 7 figures in taxes"
Yeah, but you'd think with all his "charity" donations he'd get some nice deductions..or maybe someone was not telling the truth...again.
Hey Mike,
Pride and patriotism?
Olby knows that his taxes will come right back to him in the form of the GE bailouts. They received a $140 BILLION Dollar on Nov.11 of last year. The next day Olby signed a contract for 7 Mil.
If he had any pride he would volunteer to give 3 Mil back to the government and pay taxes on 4 Mil. That would be patriotic.

Well then the nuke took care of Olby and entire Dharma gang!
Oh, and for a guy who brags about the taxes he pays, you'd think he wouldn't have acquired all those liens and tax warrants for being a deadbeat!
In his Daily Kos diary, Olbermann writes, "I was going to do the new WTF segment tonight on John McCain's mother's comments on The Tonight Show about Limbaugh and Steele and me, but as this nonsense broke around me this afternoon it struck me just how absurd that idea was."
Now he knows how everyone who watches this show for even a few minutes thinks about each and every segment - "how absurd that idea was!"
MikeHypocrite is singing the same old tired tune even as there has been so many other diddies played these past several weeks.....
Obama's most competent administration evah spends over $300k for a photo-op of thousands of New Yorkers running in the streets.
Olbermann, along with the other quality hosts at MSNBC, spend their time on the air discussing crude sexual innuendo in order to demean and demoralize sincere, patriotic and hard-working Americans.
Obama claims a .5% budget cut is something to be proud of despite his increasing the national debt to levels never seen before, even under those bad ol' Republicans.
Olbermann apologizes night after night for The Speaker of the House as her recollections of CIA briefings regarding enhanced interrogation changes, contradicts and now accuses patriotic and loyal Americans of lying.
Obama breaks his campaign promise not to raise taxes on people making less than $250K.
Olbermann endorces a guest's view that fellow Americans are racist rednecks.
Obama breaks his promise to be the most transparent administration evah by flip-flopping on releasing photos requested by the ACLU. He also refuses to release all of the memos regarding EIT, particularly those that may show the techniques resulted in the learning of information that saved innocent American lives.
Olbermann allowed a guest to use hateful slurs in the continuing radical left's agenda to intimidate people who disagree with them on the issue of gay marriage.
MikeHypocrite can review the many posts in regards to these example of hate-speech, hypocrisy, lying, broken promises and anger from the left. That's if he can handle other tunes.
And the tax issue?....I prefer to help people personally and with compassion. A government program that costs 4-5 times more than it should simply gives money to political friends and patrons of the politicians raising the taxes to fund it. My personal help, both with my two hands and with my money, is more efficiently given in my local community, not through a conduit of corruption, political favors and power....The $300K photo-op is the perfect example of my point.
Look at the picture they got with that money.....a huge symbol of presidential power over-shadowing the tiny absolute symbol of our liberty.....That will be Obama's legacy with decades of debt that bought nothing of value.
VERO POSSUMUS!
seven figures.
xx,xxx.xx
SEVEN FIGURES!
So 'T-BAG' Schuster tells us Olby is out with Flu-like whatever on twitter, But Olby tells us (after a blog story comes out) that he took a few days off because of his mom passing a few weeks before.
Changing the story........Sounds like a liberal thing eh?
Using his Mom to explain this change.
A liberal using 'DEAD people' to advance an agenda. Yep, why not. It's not like the dead person can defend themselves.
Sounds like a liberal thing eh?
Using a whole segment, the #1 segment to explain this whole thing and play himself off as the victim. (the number one story. In Olby's mind thats the story everyone will be talking about tomorrow right?)
Sounds like a liberal thing eh?
Okay
But here's my real question....
http://cityfile.com/dailyfile/5817
Is that a 'Blow Pop' in Katy's hand?
Is that a 'Blow Pop' in Katy's hand?
Yeppers.....I made note of this a couple of weeks ago.....
Isn't that cute?....Katy got a lolly from Keithy.
It has been a very revealing couple of months in regards to the fragile ego of the dear leftist, Keith Olbermann.....Let's recap.....
I believe the most recent revelations began way back in March....With his final, whiny response to Chaiman Ann.....
http://www.ivygateblog.com/2009/03/the-great-ivy-league-snob-off-part-ii-keith-olbermann-is-embarrassing-too/
###
The classic Olbermann image of framed diploma in hand, his index finger high-lighting the official Cornell seal of approval of his intellect and abilities is the fitting beginng of the almost eight weeks of public self-encouragement and metaphorical thumb-sucking.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1r02aO8Ngpc
###
Then we go ahead a couple of weeks with an appearance on Jay Leno. Olbermann attempts some poorly conceived self-effacing humor regarding giving bonuses back voluntarily but instead comes off revealing what a selfish individual he has become.....Then he goes on to show how ignorant he is about current events by telling Leno AIG stands for American Insurance Group.....
Oh well, beside the very tight mid-drift, Olbermann contributed little to THE TONIGHT SHOW set.
Then there was the COUNTDOWN house call made by Dr. Dean a week later....Diagnosis: HYPOCRISY!
How could honest fans and detractors not cringe as this telling exchange between doctor and patient?.....
"OLBERMANN: Or if you have a case to call somebody a fascist, lay it out, define your terms and say where you—I mean, you may be crazy and you maybe wrong, but at least put some meat on the bones. And just don‘t throw the word out, right?
"DEAN: Well, look—I mean, even in the darkest days of the Bush/Cheney administration, I don‘t think there was any reason to call George Bush a fascist...."
###
Oh my, the dear delicate and vulnerable Olbermann, bearing his guilty, tormented soul to Dr. Demento who decries the use of the word, "FASCIST!"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkYmS5ylCrk
###
Revealing, is it not? And congratulations to J$ for being nicely cited on Fox's Red Eye....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-USkH8nrGrI
###
A bonus with that last clip....The Frankenstein monster schizophrenia may come to pass in the future. Anyone have a daisy for Keithy?
The Twitter Smear...it was what Olbermann did not say until faced with actual facts that speaks volumes on the insecure yet self-rightous weeble....
"The incompetence that led to Keith Olbermann naming Twitter the 'Worst Person in the World' is staggering. He smeared the popular service, Fox News, and a fellow liberal Democrat enemy of Fox News, all because he got an email he didn't understand, about a technology he didn't understand, and neither he nor his staff did a click of research."
http://www.redstate.com/absentee/2009/03/29/new-revelations-in-case-of-olbermann-v-twitter/
###
Mmmm....how long to the half hearted apology?
And there was Alexa....More specifically, the IT HAPPENED TO ALEXA FOUNDATION....A fine organization with a wonderful mission which had the unfortunate fate of having to deal with Keith Olbermann. And why did a rape survivor aid organization have to deal with Mr. Pear?....Because of his middle school obsession with Bill O'Reilly!.....
What did this entire mess say about Keith Olbermann?....Well what did it NOT say about the man.....
The opening salvo was from Olbermann who picked up the blue blog outrage that Bill O'Reilly had the chutzpah to go to a fundraising dinner, let alone be the keynoter, for a rape victims support charity. When Bill O'Reilly defended himself against the smear, Olbermann uses NBC NEWS broadcast energy to talk directly to his obsession:
"OLBERMANN: Let me see if I‘m correctly summarizing your evidence of what you previously described as a well-financed cabal to smear you about this. One, you called the raped and murdered Jennifer Moore moronic and you described how her drunkenness and scanty attire led to her horrible death. Two, you said the raped and molested teenager Sean Hornbeck enjoyed parts of his captivity more than he had life with his family.
"Three, in a bitter irony, you wound up headlining a fund raiser for rape victims, a fact promoted by the support group. Four, the irony was noted on several websites. Five, we raised it here. Six, Amanda Terkel wrote about it at ThinkProgress.org. Seven, you sent an employee to follow her and stalk her in a car for two hours. Therefore, eight, this is a conspiracy against you.
"Bill, a rhetorical question, in private, has any doctor ever used the world megalomania to you?"
###
Projection, text book definition....Because no more than 2 minutes later at the end of this March 30 COUNTDOWN masterpiece, the deranged newsman says....
"OLBERMANN: Twice in my life time I have encountered Bill O‘Reilly in person. Once at a charity dinner and once on a baseball field. On both occasions, as I arrived, he backed up to a position about 20, 25 feet away from me. If I moved slightly toward him, say 18 inches closer, he backed up 18 inches.
"He stopped staring at me only when I looked at him. He is a big woos [sp].
"Finally, he is a big liar. On the zero to 100 scale on Bill-O‘s phony boasts this might be the 100. Ms Guthrie, 'obviously you and Keith Olbermann have ideological differences. Don‘t you think this feud is good for both of you.'
"Bill-O, 'there is no feud. I have never mentioned the man‘s name in my life and will never mention it.'
"Oh, so what is this then from your show on February 15th, 2007?"
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
"BILL O‘REILLY, FOX NEWS ANCHOR: Not only were there no apologizes given and no pink slips issued for William Arkin‘s outburst, but Keith Olbermann went out of his way to defend this valid criticism of our military."
(END VIDEO CLIP)
"OLBERMANN: There was the other time you mentioned my name on your shown in 1998, when you also mispronounced it. I wouldn‘t want to play that tape, too, because then I would just be embarrassing you. You are doing such a thorough job doing that yourself."
###
And so Olbermann ends another quality show with his signature scoff at America's achievement in Iraq and a very misused tagline from a REAL journalist.
It did not end there with Alexa.....It was then, "LOOKIE HOW MUCH I PERSONALLY DONATED." I cannot even think of pathology so pathetic and disturbing.
There was the famous bar graph comparing his donation to O'Reilly's and Grace's recent pledges.
Olbermann had a brief moment of lucidity (on all days, April Fools) during his conversation with Ed....I suppose he seems like a jolly, trustworthy fella that likely brought Olbermann to an epiphany.....
"OLBERMANN: You have the conundrum all of us have. As this thing gets more and more successful, the show has got to look like a relative of all the other shows right before it, right after, but not too much. I mean, Chris is the political inside baseball guy. Rachel is the affable, charming policy wonk. I‘m the A-hole. What are you going to be?"
###
Nothing to add after that summation......
Then we have the teabagging phenom that enveloped all of MSNBC, most bile-rising in the pharynx from the "affable" Rachel Maddow, with Olbermann right there like the 11 year-old boy giggling in his bedroom. But Olbermann could not leave it at the classy sexual innuendo....his pathology had to take it to the upper levels of hatred for one's political opponents....
THE "YES DEAR" interview with Ms. "it racism straight up" Garofalo.....
His interactions with women was on good display with that exchange. As the vile hatred rose from a know psychotic coming down from her AM dosed bipolar meds, Olbermann continued to utter "mmm, mmm" and calm nods of agreement. Garofalo could have said that republicans were alien beings sent from Pluto and Olbermann would have agreed....Oh well....personality defects are harder to hide when confronting true looniness.
And the defense of hatred continues as Olbermann worries O'Reilly is ignoring him in their "feud." O'Reilly seems to be pursuing a real story while Olbermann sniffs dismissal because it's really all about him.
Fast forward to today with laniards and blog comment strikes that are not explained or defended....we see the continuing unmasking of a truly insecure narcissist. TV is made for the self-absorbed, the proud, the cocky....But when the scared little bath tub boy behind the bombast keeps popping his head out, ridicule results.
Long live the mediocre newsman with the thesaurus, figure slimming mirror, baseball card collection, and enemies list (#1, 2 and 3 on the list BILL O'REILLY)....NBC NEWS is serving a new purpose...not to inform, but to entertain!
"FASCIST!"
So Keith wanted to use baseball as therapy after his mother's death. He states on the Daily Kos that he "put in for a long weekend" so he could go to "the games on Saturday, Sunday, Monday night, Tuesday night, and Wednesday." That sounds more like stand-up comedy than a grieving son.
By cee on May 14, 2009 10:38 PM
Is that a 'Blow Pop' in Katy's hand?
Yeppers
Yeah, it sure doesn't look like a 'Sucker'.
Wow...I just watched that and....WOW.
KO is off the reservation. The fact he just wasted 1/5th of his show defending his absences just illustrated how egotistical he really is. And to further his ego, let's name drop Jason Bateman while were at it to show those bloggers that you're really a somebody.
And yes in Keith's mind it goes like this " And the #1 story you'll be talking about tomorrow...I got my feelings hurt by a blogger so I'm going to set the record straight."
Oh I'll be talking about, just to make fun of his hypocritical ass.
No recap from me tonight, so what was the O'Reilly Attack in WPitW about?
In the novel "The Stranger" by Albert Camus, the story starts with a man who the day after his mother's funeral goes swimming in public with a girl he just met and then takes her to a comedy movie. Later on in the story, he's arrested for shooting someone. In his trial, his "strange" behavior of swimming & movie dating is used against him showing him to be a cold, odd person.
Hmmmm. Sounds like Keithee (taking in some baseball after his mother's funeral) is "The Stranger"....hehe
Remember Keith naming David Feherty Worst last Friday? Well, Noel Sheppard wrote about it the next day at NewsBusters. I only noticed it now because I was searching Google for "olbermann 'worst person' 'may 14.'" It's a good find, though. Read and enjoy, read-and-enjoyers.
UN-effing-WATCHABLE!!
Assholebermann took only 3 days to morph the title of his new, classless, segment from "WTF?" to "What the F?" Just in case some of us neanderthals didn't know what "WTF" means. Probably morphed it in honor of his dearly departed Mom? (R.I.P.)
Prediction: If Olbermosexual and Madcow continue to talk down to their own respective audiences as if they (the audiences) were small children, then their COMBINED audiences will struggle to reach 1.5 million by year's end.
Adults of all stripes despise a childish explanation of a "grown-up" issue, delivered as if it is the ONLY method of "getting through" to these thick-headed dolts. I bet a substantial # of KO's and COW's viewers (what's left of them) agree with me. I could be wrong.
The 1.5 might be a reach but, I think my rationale is sound.
BTW, why is Tur so goggle-eyed and giggly when she's around Bettes?
Just an Olbservation......
Enjoyed the Gibson piece. THANKS!
Could it be? Is it remotely possible? Have the planets and the Hubble and the Int. Space Station and BOTH space shuttles ALL lined up? Has Turley (notice no "D") generated one cell of realism and another cell of logic in that brain of his? .....and grown the STONES to use BOTH cells at the same time!!!
DAMN!
strikesout,
That pic looks like: Dad, daughter and son inlaw at the ballgame.
I guess I have to figure out what the attack was myself.
...
Okay, now I know, and once again, I'm an oracle and proven correct. Last night, I said this:
"... on "The Factor," tonight's Talking Points Memo was about the Politics of Ridicule. The conversation continued in the Top Story segment (no video up at FOXNews.com) with MSNBC contributor Michael Smerconish (who was likely able to appear on FNC because of his new book, "Morning Drive") and our friend John Gibson. The discussion extended further into the Personal Story segment with Bernie Goldberg. ... Keep T-Points, Personal Story, and Impact in mind because they could be used against Bill, Bernie, and Dick [Morris]. We'll see."
Right again!...for T-Points (transcript). Blue blog source: Crooks & Liars. Here is the full transcript with asterisks indicating the parts Man on Fan read:
"Robust debate is vital to America. It can put complicated issues in focus, sometimes expose the charlatans. Stating your case with strength and dignity is the sign of a patriot.
But in today's political landscape, ridicule is on the rise, and both the left and the right are using it:
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
DAVID SHUSTER, MSNBC: She lied. She avoided taking personal responsibility. She blamed others.
[CALLER TO MICHAEL SAVAGE'S SHOW]: Perez Hilton, the judge was on MSNBC.
MICHAEL SAVAGE, RADIO HOST: I don't know who that sick, fat pervert is, and I never want to hear his name.
LOU DOBBS, CNN [ON HIS RADIO SHOW]: We'll be talking also about Venezuela's Hugo Chavez. Guess what? That little love affair with his fellow socialist Barack Obama didn't last long.
ANN COULTER, AUTHOR [AT CPAC]: To be fair, Obama is the person now most likely to put — or to have poison put in his coffee by Hillary, but that's only because Bill Clinton stopped eating and drinking around Hillary years ago.
JAMES CARVILLE, DEMOCRATIC STRATEGIST [ON "REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER"]: Bush was even kind of a walking punch line. I mean, he's just, you know, and he doesn't mess up as much as Bush.
MICHAEL MUSTO, VILLAGE VOICE COLUMNIST [ON THE HOUR OF SPIN]: I know for a fact that Carrie Prejean was Harry Prejean, a homophobic man who liked marriage so much he did it three times. Now he's a babe who needs a brain implant. Maybe they can inject some fat from her butt.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
Now, *let's put this into perspective. Talk radio has always had its share of hate-mongers. Some right-wingers make a living doing this. And on the left, the Air America network was all hate all the time, and then it went bankrupt.
Then a couple of years ago, NBC News began peddling hate on its cable network.
Then a few months ago, the Obama administration tried to brand the Republican Party as a place of fanaticism.* The White House actually increased the power of Rush Limbaugh by trying to ridicule him.
But here's the question: Are these tactics an accident, or is there something deeper here?
Enter far-left philosopher Saul Alinsky, a Chicago rabble-rouser who died in 1972. Hillary Clinton actually did a thesis on Alinsky while studying at Wellesley College in Massachusetts.
Before he died, Alinsky wrote a book called "Rules for Radicals," and here is where the politics of ridicule was defined. According to Alinsky, in order to change America into a far-left bastion, traditional Americans must be marginalized; attacked. Alinsky lays it out in five radical rules. Here is rule five: "Ridicule is man's most potent weapon. It is almost impossible to counterattack ridicule. Also, it infuriates the opposition, who then react to your advantage."
Now, that's exactly the tactic the hate-mongers at NBC are using--is it not?--and very close to the White House-Republican deal.
Alinsky also layed out how to attack opponents in rule four: "You can kill them, for they can no more obey their own rules than the Christian church can live up to Christianity."
Alinsky is saying that because no person is perfect, any sin can be used against traditional people. The American press does that all day long.
Now, the Alinsky principles are followed by a variety of left-wing organizations, including--and get this, ladies and gentlemen--including the Developing Communities Project in Chicago, where Barack Obama worked in the late 1980s. Now, that's not to say the president is a disciple of Alinsky's, but he surely knows what the man put out there, as do many committed liberal Americans.
So the politics of ridicule is no accident. It is a game plan, a blueprint. It is currently being used by a major television news organization, and perhaps by the White House itself.
Now you know.
And that's "The Memo.""
I feel like a broken record, but wow, all that and all Oralmann read was a little bit. Before rapidly reading that itty-bitty part in the woefully unfunny Ted Baxter voice, Hatemongermann summed up the T-Points as "how Saul Alinsky is programming MSNBC and the White House from beyond the grave." Should we go back to rule five? After the dramatization, Alinskymann ridiculed back. "Anything missing from that chronology? Oh, yeah, first there was talk radio hate, then there was Fox News hate, starring failed local news reporters, which they left out." Every current reporter and anchor at FNC was a fine local news reporter in their time. That includes our humble correspondent, who eventually worked at CBS News and ABC News before hosting and reporting for "Inside Edition" for eight successful years.
Worser was Glenn Beck--Harold Hill [Ding!]--but I won't waste your time with that or Worst.
So, I ended up recapping after all. Damn my curiosity.
Getting back to Feherty for a moment, let's flash back to what I said on Friday:
"Worst was ... "soon-to-be-ex-CBS Sports golf analyst" David Feherty. With that ringing endorsement, I stand by my prediction of a two-week suspension and an apology [in my previous comment in that thread]. No Northern Irish accent was used for David. Keith played it straight and launched his trademark theatrical faux outrage. This story has not been mentioned on The Golf Channel website, the PGA Tour website, the CBS Sports golf page or main page, the Sports Illustrated website, the SI-run Golf.com, ESPN.com, or ESPN's golf website. But Media Matters brings it up and BAM! Rip 'n Read brings it up. And I searched "david feherty" and "'david feherty' reid" at all sites. I found nothing. "Manages to threaten by proxy..." "Abusive free speech..." CBS should fire him! Secret Service! Boy, Pelosi and Reid are proud to have you on their side. Great Thanks."
Later in the thread, on Monday afternoon, I noted that David apologized and and linked to the AP's story. Then, I wrote "Hopefully, this puts that flap to bed for good. Keith may bring the apology up in WPitW, but we'll see. [He didn't.] I hope we can just move on from here and David can get back to business in San Antonio on Thursday." And we have.
Here are excerpts from Noel Sheppard's NB story:
"Keith Olbermann, who in March scolded Fox News's Brit Hume for admitting that he often used information provided by the Media Research Center in his "Special Report" program, has once again channeled material taken directly from the far-left, George Soros funded, Clinton front-group Media Matters for America.
Even better, the story was actually precipitated by an article read on the air Friday afternoon during -- wait for it!!! -- Rush Limbaugh's radio show.
...
Readers are advised that the article in question was first published online back on March 23. So, how did this surface almost seven weeks later?
Well, Dallas-based conservative radio host Mark Davis was filling in for Rush Limbaugh yesterday, and he read Feherty's "D" magazine piece -- "D" standing for Dallas -- to his listeners.
Of course, the shills at MMA were also listening, and quickly posted the audio at 2:12 PM EST. Two and a half hours later, at 4:44 PM EST, MMA issued a press release demanding Feherty's apology. And, about four hours later, Olbermann took it further referring to Feherty as "ex-CBS sports golf analyst" while calling for him to resign or be fired.
Unfortunately, missing in all the outrage was some context. Now, readers are advised that I am by no means condoning what Feherty wrote. Depicting an American soldier killing elected officials is certainly going over the line. Let's be clear about that.
However, this "D" magazine issue devoted a good deal of space for Dallas writers to offer their opinions of how the area will be impacted by George W. Bush's return. With this in mind, Feherty gave a rather tongue-in-cheek view in a piece called "An F-List Celeb Imagines What Preston Hollow Life Will Be Like For W":
...
After discussing how Bush lovers in the area will constantly try to meet the former President, Feherty moved in a different direction:
...
Interesting. So, before his comments about Pelosi and Reid, Feherty advocated the death of pro-lifers, child molesters, and those opposed to gay marriage.
How did this escape the eyes of Olbermann and his shills at MMA? Did they miss it, or just weren't outraged by Feherty's suggestion that all pro-lifers and opponents to gay marriage should receive the death penalty?
While you ponder, let's move to the money section that was cherry picked from to invoke all this anger:
...
As such, Feherty's point, however callously made, was that the media have been unduly harsh on Bush, and that despite all the anti-war sentiments, folks in the press have improperly represented the military's view of the former President, and have withheld from the public the contempt our soldiers feel for elected officials that have undermined their efforts.
Does that make Feherty's picture in that elevator any more acceptable?
Well, as this came after the writer suggested over half of Americans should be killed -- a recent Quinnipiac University poll found 55 percent of respondents opposing laws in their states that would make same-sex marriage legal -- it sure seems this golf analyst is an equal opportunity offender.
With this in mind, maybe someone on Olbermann's staff should actually READ the entire articles they're quoting from, especially ones provided by these shameless, left-wing shills."
And there it is, folks.
Has it come down to this...defending yourself against bloggers??? The #1 story of the night??? Are we supposed to feel sorry for you after you attack, ridicule, lie and slander people every single night??? Give me a freakin break. Boo Hoo.
And then I had a good laugh with the Obly/Maddow exchange. I have no sympathy for a lying, hypocritical, narcissistic wind bag who uses the internet as his "sources" and distorts the truth. Debate someone once in a while, you HACK. Oh I forgot, you can't because anyone with a 3rd grade education would wipe up the floors with you.
RESIGN, sir.
For the record, Sheppard was referring to Media Matters [for America] and not mixed martial arts.
I just listened to Tuesday's and last night's WTFs. All I can say, particularly with Tuesday's, is oy gevalt and what a jerk. Hey, let's go back to Alinsky's rule five: "Ridicule is man's most potent weapon. It is almost impossible to counterattack ridicule. Also, it infuriates the opposition, who then react to your advantage." Yeah, that's ridicule all right. And rule four? "You can kill them, for they can no more obey their own rules than the Christian church can live up to Christianity." Bingo bango, Misogynist Olbermoronn did to Carrie Prejean--or as he snidely referred to her, "St. Carrie of La Jolla" (where Dick Enberg grew up, by the way; jealous, Keith?)--in a nutshell. Then, Jane Fondamann mocked her for bringing up her veteran grandfather, and for crying. I am so glad he's getting he's rear kicked nightly in the ratings. The only people listening to you, St. Keith of 30 Rock, are Kool-aid drinkers on the far-left and partisan Democrats (what's the difference these days?). Good grief. Pinhead doesn't even begin to describe it.
Then, tonight's moment: indignation and faux outrage. What more can you say? I'll say this: CityFile should have a statue in their honor right now. (That was a reference to a Special Education Komment from November 2007.)
For those that heard last night's What the Komment (my name for it), I ask: Do you believe anything you heard? Do you really think he took those days off for theraputic reasons? Do you really think he took his nephew to the games? Do you really think the nephew caught the bat?
Remember, 99% of the time (maybe a little less), if Keith Olbermann insults or mocks you, you did the right thing and are a good person.
MikeC:
No, I do not believe much of the substance I heard from Olbermann last night regarding his time off because he has lied before.
I believe he believes he took those days off for therapeutic reasons, however, the trigger could have been him blowing up, unreasonably, over the Maddow/Affleck issue and everyone around him said, "Dude, get out of here, you're stressed!" Some people rationalize things like that all the time.
Ego is a funny thing....it will rationalize over reactions to simple mistakes like the over booking of Afleck, and I believe Olbermann is vulnurable to such rationalizations. The emotional "wall" he refers to is the likely out in his rationaization and plausable to those knowledgable of his reaction to Afleck going on Maddow's show, including the source used by the blogger.
He said, he said....Olbermann abuses private and public figures constantly on COUNTDOWN with just as much ink in order to serve his agenda.
The final point....Olbermann feels people like Prejean, Palin, "racist rednecks", Cheney, O'Reilly, Limbaugh, Lieberman, Bush, McCain, Wurzelbacher, Beck, Coulter, etc. deserve lies, smears, hate and ridicule no matter what their situation is.....yet the indigination he cannot hide, when someone ridicules him just as he does, shows he has no moral base.
"Do onto others as you would have them do onto you."
Olbermann is a hypocrite, liar, hater and narcissist. The blog article he is so angry about is no worse or less sourced than what he puts on his show every night, so a bigger man should, like O'Reilly has done time and again, simply ignore it if he knows it's not true and use the 8 minutes of air time cover more important things.
You know who else showed he was a better man than Olbermann this week?.....Rush Limbaugh.....He did not respond to the hateful speech from Sykes at the WHCD even though he could have.
Lastly, Roberta McCain's insightful observation of Olbermann almost made it to his ridicule list UNTIL the story about him came out (as per his kos post)....She was 100% right.....
"I, myself, can't figure out that type of person who really more or less gets joy out of denigrating people. I'm just not that type of person, I don't have friends like that, and thank God I am not around people like him."
That 97 year-old patriotic American is right about Olbermann's personality flaw and he gave more evidence of that flaw in last nights #1 segment.
The more Olby comments over at Kos, the more divided they become. Olbys responses to criticisms in the Kos forum make the stories of his horrible temper all the more believable. What a baby.
Hey boys and girls...
Don't forget...Affleck once appeared on the O'Reilly Factor:
Per imdb.com 's Ben Affleck page:
"The O'Reilly Factor" .... Himself (1 episode, 2004)
- Episode dated 27 July 2004 (2004) TV episode .... Himself
So, instead of a real "WTF," like what I have below, Olbermann chose to defend himself against a "he said, he said," story.
The real "WTF," yesterday was the one's whining about people rightfully questioning his seriousness in reducing government waste and earmarks while increasing the debt more than any other president since FDR....
"'I just want to make a little commentary about the media here, if you don’t mind,' Mr. Obama said this afternoon in Rio Rancho, NM, at a town hall meeting on credit card reform. 'When Congress included in last year’s budget a whole bunch of earmarks, you remember there was a week worth of stories about how terrible these earmarks were,' the president recounted. 'You remember this…a week's worth of stories: 'Oh, these earmarks, this is what's blowing up the deficit, this is terrible,' blah, blah, blah.''
"Continued the president: 'And yet, as I said before, that was less than 1 percent of that entire budget that had been signed. When we find $17 billion worth of cuts in programs, what do the same folks say? They say, 'Oh, that's nothing.'…That’s not significant. That's not important.'
"'Well, you can't have it both ways,' the president said. 'If those earmarks were important, then this money is important, too.'"
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2009/05/president-oba-6.html
###
Aw, poor Barack is whing about the coverage he got....When back in the campaign, he did the same exact thing to McCain's remarks about earmarks not having a big impact on reducing the deficit....He wants it both ways in reverse....breaking his promise to reduce earmarks is ok and a teeny tiny budget reduction in the face of HUGE overspending started by him since he became President is a big accomplishment.
Sorry, WTF?.....President Obama is trying to claim he is fiscally responsible while he saddles my children with more debt than George Bush even dreamed of....and why?....because he wants to institute huge increases in entitlements, bailout industries that help him politically and continue to spend like an idiot, like the scare-force-one photo-op.
He even had the audacity to criticize Americans for running up debt instead of saving even as he creates the largest deficit since FDR.
And that even before he tries to pay for a new healthcare entitlement that he is grossly under-estimating the costs and impact to our country.
And that even before he does the hard work of reforming Social Security before it goes broke in less than 10 years.
And that even as he breaks his campaign promise not to raise taxes on people making less than $250K/year.
VERO POSSUMUS! WTF?
Nancy Pelosi's a liar
The CIA will soon tie her
To a waterboard
Dunk her botoxed gourd
Then put her feet to the fire
I recalled a nice example of Olbyocrisy (?sp)......
From last night, Olbermann said, "Political dispute is one thing. Let's leave everybody's kidneys, possible roles as the 20th 9/11 hijacker, and mothers out of it."
Let's go back in time.......
3/2006:
OLBERMANN: "But tonight's winner, Barbara Bush, former First Lady, mother of the President. Houston Chronicle reporting today, and her chief-of-staff confirming, that Mrs. Bush made a generous donation to the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund, co-chaired by her husband, the former President, and former President Clinton. But there was a catch. The money she donated had to be spent, was earmarked for, was intended only for use for buying computer software programs for schools in Houston, computer software programs for schools in Houston that were sold by her son Neil. You'd think if a woman has reached her 80th birthday she'd understand that if you make a donation to charity, then make the charity give the donation to your son, it's not a damned donation anymore! Barbara Bush, today's 'Worst Person in the World'!"
###
Thanks to NewsBusters for showing that Olbermann told a half truth about that donation THE MOTHER OF GEORGE BUSH gave to Katrina relief...and from the same article he cited to smear Mrs. Bush....
"However, the Countdown host failed to mention that the Houston Chronicle article also relayed, citing former President Bush's chief-of-staff Jean Becker, that the Bush family had given additional donations to the Katrina fund without any requirement as to how they should be spent: 'Becker said she wasn't at liberty to divulge how much money the Bush family gave to the hurricane funds, but said the 'rest of their donation was not earmarked for anything.'"

Poor Olbermann....the foolish, lying hypocrite once again.
"I'd say that unlike many republicans these days, Keith
understands that paying taxes is both a point of pride,
AND a sign of patriotism." Mike H.
I agree Mike. Just like Geithner, Dashle, Ron Kirk, Kathleen Sebelius, Hilda Solis, Nancy Killefer . . .
And SB_Mich, don't forget such over users of government funds who try to get out of paying their taxes like Congressman Charlie Rangel, Democrat NY.
MikeH seems to like to ignore such irony. The Democrats are such patriots!
I see MikeH is still seeing no evil, hearing no evil, and speaking no evil when it comes to his president and party. He makes a good boot licker. MikeH cowardly whined about "torture" day after day on this blog and yet now that his speaker of the house took part in the "torture" he spends his night attacking Rush Limbaugh. Stay classy MikeH.
You guys showed remarkable restraint towards MikeHypocrite last night.
Cee,
Also, there's no comparison between earmarks and budget cutting. Let's look at the 1%.
Earmarks are completely wasteful and are used by pols to get re elected period. There should be (as he promised) 0% earmarks so 1% of waste equals zero money saved.
On the other hand budget cuts mean something but only in ratio to the overall budget. Not only is 1% cut of his unsustainable budget close to zero saved he's just going to use the money saved for other projects. Not to mention he's now asking for 85 Billion more!
Only the drive-bys, obamabots and Countdown viewers are too stupid to see this.
Speaking of hypocrites, Jonathan Alter is a frequent guest (echo) of Olbermann's and recently said the following on COUNTDOWN:
"Look, the bottom line here is that the Pentagon has known for a long time—as John McCain has said—that torture doesn't work. People give you the wrong answer so it's to stop the pain. So, what we know now is that [Bush Administration officals] were warned that not only was it: A, torture, B, it wouldn't produce actionable intelligence.
"And so, we're—you know, all of these subsequent memos and discussion of this issue has to be seen in that context, that [the Bush Administration] knew going in that this was unreliable."
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30440197/
###
So Mr. Alter, now as Monday morning quarterback like the rest of the left, knows 100% torture never works......So, what happened to the following opinion?.....
"Some torture clearly works. Jordan broke the most notorious terrorist of the 1980s, Abu Nidal, by threatening his family. Philippine police reportedly helped crack the 1993 World Trade Center bombings (plus a plot to crash 11 U.S. airliners and kill the pope) by convincing a suspect that they were about to turn him over to the Israelis. Then there's painful Islamic justice, which has the added benefit of greater acceptance among Muslims.
"We can't legalize physical torture; it's contrary to American values. But even as we continue to speak out against human-rights abuses around the world, we need to keep an open mind about certain measures to fight terrorism, like court-sanctioned psychological interrogation. And we'll have to think about transferring some suspects to our less squeamish allies, even if that's hypocritical. Nobody said this was going to be pretty."

I suppose Olbermann's echo on torture currently has had a HUGE change of heart, just like Nancy Pelosi. They both are liars.
Also, they are hypocritcal cowards. They basically endorced techniques (and even worse) back in 2001, 2002 and 2003 yet now want political and even legal remedies for those same techniques.
Charles Krauthammer cited the above opinion of Alter and it jogged my memory of his recent appearance on COUNTDOWN. I suggest reading his piece today...it is excellent and puts Pelosi and the rest of the democrats (and their apologists like MikeHypocrite and Olbermann) in their place.....

Look....Olby often uses smoke and mirrors to deflect the blows to his ego by making tangential arguments.
1) We don't care that you think Miss CA should not feel victimized simply because she got to keep her job. She was humiliated BY YOU simply for having an opinion. END OF STORY.
2) We don't care that you may have taken a long weekend because the Field of Dreams was calling. You were reported to have GONE APE because you didn't get Affleck. And we don't care whether your relationship with Maddow is on the up and up, because it was the producers with which you were having a tantrum. And you DID NOT DENY that report. END OF STORY.
Smoke and mirrors.

I have him on ignore so I don't see his comments. And yes that ignoring feature is something I made up and doesn't physically exist.
The choices are abundant for #5-#1 on COUNTDOWN tonight.
Will the following memo be discussed truthfully?.....
"There is a long tradition in Washington of making political hay out of our business. It predates my service with this great institution, and it will be around long after I’m gone. But the political debates about interrogation reached a new decibel level yesterday when the CIA was accused of misleading Congress.
"Let me be clear: It is not our policy or practice to mislead Congress. That is against our laws and our values. As the Agency indicated previously in response to Congressional inquiries, our contemporaneous records from September 2002 indicate that CIA officers briefed truthfully on the interrogation of Abu Zubaydah, describing 'the enhanced techniques that had been employed.'
"Ultimately, it is up to Congress to evaluate all the evidence and reach its own conclusions about what happened.
"My advice -- indeed, my direction -- to you is straightforward: ignore the noise and stay focused on your mission. We have too much work to do to be distracted from our job of protecting this country.
"We are an Agency of high integrity, professionalism, and dedication. Our task is to tell it like it is—even if that’s not what people always want to hear. Keep it up. Our national security depends on it."

Nah.
Will the following even be mentioned by Olbermann?....
Biden's rosy report can't hide stimulus problems
"This week, the White House released its first quarterly report on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, better known as the $787 billion stimulus bill. Reaction on Capitol Hill was swift: Republicans think it's a joke, while Democrats don't want to talk about it.
"The report was unveiled not by President Obama but by Vice President Joe Biden, who said it 'shows early progress providing immediate financial relief for American families and jump-starting billions of dollars in job-creating projects.' In a press release, Biden claimed the stimulus has so far 'created or saved' 150,000 jobs, and that 'over 3,000 transportation construction projects have been funded in 52 states and territories.'
"You don't have to look too hard to find problems with Biden's work. First, nobody seems to know precisely where the figure of 150,000 jobs comes from. When President Obama used it in a speech on April 29, the website FactCheck.org pretty much demolished the claim. Previewing the Biden report on May 11, a 'senior administration official' held a conference-call briefing with reporters and seemed unprepared when asked where the created-or-saved jobs actually are. 'In terms of exactly where and in what sectors, that's not something I have numbers on,' the official said, 'because, precisely, we don't yet have any of the reporting.'"

VERO POSSUMUS! WTF?
Another weeknight, another loss for Harold Olbermann in the ratings. Last night at 8PM, the failed sports reporter came in a distant second in total viewers and the 25-54 demo. At 10PM, he barely took third place in the 25-54 demo and came in fourth in total viewers.
ICN had a piece about KO's seemingly endless rant about the noble reason he took a few days off as opposed to its being a juvenile tantrum.
A comment:

In relation to last night's O'Reilly Attack here are viewer e-mails from last night's "O'Reilly Factor":
Dr. William Jarvis, Loma Linda, CA: "O'Reilly, thank you for educating viewers about Saul Alinsky's tactics. His book was the bible for radicals when I was attending Kent State."
Ned Bartlett, Atlanta, GA: "Bill, your talking points was great. Alinsky's theory of ridicule has Republicans chasing rabbits in response."
Billie Smith, Binghamton, NY: "Bill, after seeing your segment on Alinsky it all makes sense to me. The hate I see on MSNBC and in the primary battle between Obama and Hillary confused me."
Gini David, Novato, CA: "The White House also uses Alinsky's rule eleven: 'Pick a target, freeze it, personalize it, polarize it.'" [MC Editorial: MSNBC and their blue blog brethren use it, too.]
I believe Dick Cheney has been an object of derision and hate on COUNTDOWN for about 2 weeks straight now.
On that note, I highly recommend a fair and balanced assessment of our former VP from someone with a worldview that is at odds with mine and Cheney's.....
Three Cheers for Dick Cheney!
[...]
"I've known Cheney most of my adult life. We aren't friends, and don't fly-fish together or anything like that, but I've covered him, interviewed him, and frankly always liked the guy. And I think I have a pretty good idea of what happened to him. It's not from anything he told me, and I'm certainly not going all Gail Sheehy on you: My theory comes out of the 9/11 report, available to anyone who wants to read it, and from Cheney's public statements.
"At about 10 a.m. that awful morning, the vice president entered a secure White House shelter. He was told that the Air Force was attempting to scramble planes to defend the air space over Washington. That raised another question, one pertaining to the missing plane White House officials assumed was heading their way: Who was going to authorize shooting it down? Cheney, with Bush's concurrence, gave such an order. Minutes later, officials in the shelter learned a plane had crashed in Pennsylvania. In the unemotional prose of the report, the 9/11 commission noted: 'Those in the shelter wondered if the aircraft had been shot down pursuant to this authorization.'
"At 10:39 a.m., Cheney spoke with Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. It's clear from the transcript of that call that Cheney believes he may have authorized the shooting down of an American passenger jet. Rumsfeld seems skeptical, but he doesn't really know either. I'm not sure 'changed' is the right word, but I believe that in those 40 minutes--with the nation under attack, with Cheney not knowing if his daughters and grandchildren are safe, with his impression that he's directed a very hard order to some flyboy in the U.S. Air Force, possibly killing another 200 Americans--that Dick Cheney resolved to do whatever it would take to protect this country, regardless of the cost to his reputation or popularity. I respect him for that, and I empathize with him.
"It is at this point in the discussion that I must say that I thoroughly disagree with Cheney on the authorization of torture in this war we are fighting. In fact, our differences run deeper and from a starting point that pre-dates 9/11. Cheney came into office convinced that the previous president, sometimes haphazardly, sometimes to save his own neck, had squandered away the prerogatives of the executive branch. Although I covered Bill Clinton's soap opera, I never understood this concern. I thought the moral of the Clinton saga was the amazing resilience of the Office of the Presidency, even when the chief executive stumbles.
"That was my view, not Cheney's. From the beginning, he set about reasserting what he perceived to be lost power of the executive branch, and claiming some of it for the vice presidency. Cheney established a parallel foreign policy apparatus that reported directly to him, quietly exerted influence with the president on policy without going through cabinet officials, superseded the White House chief of staff on some personnel decisions--including the fate of his old pal Rumsfeld--and had his own speechwriting staff that occasionally put the vice president out in front of stated administration policy. To me, having a vice president function in this way, as a kind of über chief of staff, took the natural evolution of the office of the vice presidency too far. I find it constitutionally problematic, and believe that it established an unworkable management structure in the Bush White House. I don't question Cheney's motives. I just think he was mistaken.
"The same is true for me regarding torture. Cheney says valuable information was wrung out of 9/11 masterminds Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and Abu Zubaydah via 'waterboarding' and other methods. I know of no reason to doubt this claim, but studies have shown that prisoners being tortured will say whatever they believe their interrogators want to hear, just to end the pain. In other words, the information is often unreliable. In addition, I would add that using torture results in forfeiting the moral high ground in world public opinion, serves as a potent recruiting tool for terrorists, makes it more difficult to generate world outrage if American hostages are tortured, and is simply not who we are as a people. The Bill of Rights is who we are, and enshrined in the Eighth Amendment is a prohibition against 'cruel' or 'unusual' punishments. Torture is both. Should foreign terrorists who have declared war on our way of life be granted the protections of the U.S. Constitution? I don't know. I do believe that Americans should not descend to the barbaric level of our enemies.
"So on that point, I agree with Cheney's critics. What I don't agree with, and find despicable, actually, is the type of rhetoric directed against him. When Hillary Clinton, now the Secretary of State, is asked during a Senate hearing about Cheney's expressed views that the tactics of the previous administration made the nation safer, she rolls her eyes histrionically, snickers and mutters something about Cheney's lack of 'credibility.' That was rich, coming from a person who claimed with a straight face during last year's campaign to have braved gunfire in Bosnia, played an instrumental role in the Irish peace process, and warned her husband about the evils of free trade. When White House press secretary Robert Gibbs was asked a similar question about Cheney's contention, he replied sarcastically that Rush Limbaugh must have been busy, 'so they trotted out the next most popular member of the Republican cabal.'
In my view, that's a low way to conduct political discourse. I'm with Liz Cheney, who said this week, 'He's always got a cute one-liner, usually about the vice president,' adding that Gibbs doesn't engage legitimate questions about national security. 'It's a dangerous game they're playing,' said the former vice president's daughter. I agree. That game is called politics, and playing it with national security is indeed dangerous. Yet, the Democrats' gambit had been effective. I was dismayed the other day when Eugene Robinson, a recent winner of the Pulitzer Prize for commentary, penned a column for The Washington Post essentially calling Cheney crazy and postulating that his argument cannot truly be called an argument at all.
"Am I wrong to get worked up about the rhetorical excesses of Cheney's critics, when the stakes of governmental misjudgments in the previous administration seem so high? If so, I'm in good company. In 1944, as Allied bombers devastated German cities, George Orwell received a letter from a reader who said that although he realized 'the Hun (has) got to be beaten,' he was troubled by the civilian casualties suffered in cities such as Dresden and Hamburg. Replied Orwell in his newspaper column, 'It seems to me that you do less harm by dropping bombs on people than by calling them 'Huns.''
"Surely that's hyperbole, but we definitely do damage to ourselves when we substitute political debate with name-calling and ad-hominem attacks. I think Dick Cheney is wrong on important matters. I also think he is a patriot. And I hate to think that we have lost the ability to hold two such opinions in our heads at one time."

An excellent piece, and until such vitriol stops, I have no problem dishing it out myself at silly self-rightous news anchors or even at the radical left's political class.
What the democrat party has brought onto our country in the style of rhetoric they tolerated back in 2004 to now will be a sad legacy.
VERO POSSUMUS! WTF?
