MSNBC boasted that on election night they would present a "special live edition of Countdown" at 10:00 pm. But with bad news for the Democrats in Virginia and New Jersey, a funny thing happened on the way to the bonus Hour of Spin. Keith wasn't there! After a live update (not from Olby but from Lawrence O'Donnell) A-Mess-NBC ("the place for politics") proceeded to rerun the 8:00 pm showing.
Keith had obviously left the building. But why? Where in the world was Keith Olbermann? We don't know yet, but we think we have a pretty good idea:

Update: Steve Krakauer hears one possible explanation of Olby's whereabouts:
Around 10:15pmET, there was a commercial break, and the repeat 8pmET Countdown kicked in. It aired the rest of the hour. We hear Olbermann was visiting his dad in the hospital, which accounted for his absence. But that doesn't answer why O'Donnell or Matthews didn't fill in during the prime results hour. In the MSNBC release Monday, it was listed as a live edition of Countdown.
Update update: Does anyone really believe what is almost certainly an MSNBC leak, that he was visiting his sick Dad? Especially when nobody is willing to go on the record to say it's true? Keith announced at 8:59 pm that he and Larry O'Donnell would be back at 10:00. So what happened between 9:00 and 10:00 pm that might have sent Olby to the bathtub? Could it have been Corzine losing? Ya think? Will Oralmann show up tonight? Or will he end up at Yankee Stadium? That would be peculiar, if his dad's illness prevented Olby from staying at work past ten o'clock, but allows him to spend all night at a ball game. We'll know a few short minutes from now, and we're counting on you to recap tonight's festivities in this thread.
Update Update Update: Well Keith is just where we thought he'd be: Yankee Stadium, merrily posting one blog entry after another at tonight's game. So either his Dad made a miraculous recovery from just 24 hours ago, or MSNBC's PR line explaining away Keith's sudden disappearance on election night is even shadier than we suspected. Discuss and resolve. Comments are still open!
Great thanks to all the websites that linked to this post, including:
He should have stuck around. He could boast about how that clusterf*ck of a congressional race in NY was a referendum on Sarah Palin.
Olbermann was having a bad night. He called Joe ( You Lie!) Wilson a "santimonious son of a bitch". He told the 9/12'rs to "Go to Hell!". Is it any surprise that his chair was empty at 10 PM?
cj he probably will when he comes back next week.
I use to live in New Jersey, I'm in shock! Republicans don't win in NJ. I've been listening to a lot of local NJ radio tonight, and a lot of callers saying they were Union Members could not bring themselves to pull the trigger for Corzine.
I'm learning that Corzine was really hated, maybe thats why there was no trunkloads of votes showing up in Bergen & Essex County at the last minute.
Obama & his crew just about lived in NJ for the last month, talking about Change. Well, they got it!
The Democrats got a beating
No one resorted to cheating
The people have spoken
Presidency broken
And Keith is at a staff meeting
I really hope Comcast buys NBC Universal and puts an end to Olbermann. He is a classless coward and a misogynist. The only thing worse is that NBC is letting this raving lunatic spew his garbage on their airwaves.
On a side note, the Kos Kids and Mr. Maddow are not happy:
Gay-marriage foes claim victory in Maine:
With more than 84 percent of precincts reporting Tuesday, the side seeking to repeal the law had 53 percent of the vote. Their campaign organizer, Frank Schubert, claimed victory and declared that Maine voters had helped preserve the institution of marriage.
It would be funny if KO's new Comcast overlords are Fox fans.
" And our WPITW, Comcast for firing me. Yes I've gone insane and have the Countdown set in my apartment where I pretend I'm still #1 at 8pm because my messiah said Fox isn't a real news station. Goof night and good luck. Now where's my ducky..."
I was hoping to see Cee here tonight.
No doubt he is busy wildly celebrating his liberation from Jon Corzine and we will see him soon!
I am very happy that a Obama-styled Democrat lost here in deep blue NJ, Grammie, by a pretty large margin and after the cult attempted to awaken the acolytes asleep here. It is very interesting that independents went for Christie big time and that there was not a good showing for the legions of "first time" voters from 2008 that got involved simply because they love Barack Obama.
Also, Christie is a pro-life, fiscal conservative....For the last year, leftist shills like Olbermann have been stating as fact that such beliefs are not, "mainstream." Christie would be considered a fringe rightwinger to idiots like Olbermann yet he won in a very diverse state that has a powerful left controlling most towns and the legislature. The failing policies of the left are evident in NJ as taxes have been increased and the corrupt unions given everything they want (Corzine was in their pocket). It will be very difficult for Christie to govern but at least there is a check now for the spending and the unions no longer have free reign to drain the treasury.
Lastly, like Obama's campaign, Corzine spent millions more over the limit. It was good to see that tactic no be rewarded again. Buying elections is not good for democracy.
It is reasurring that the cult of personality that was a manipulation and danger to our government is limited, for now. I am not sure what effect the results in NJ and VA will have on the upcoming health reform votes, but at least it shows there are limits to the celebrity influence and rational, measured seriousness still exisits in the majority of voters.
As a bonus, Imus, one of my favorites, is taking 100% credit for Christie's win and jokingly compared the power of his ONE appearance on the show last week to Obama coming FIVE times for Corzine. I think Imus is happy to have an obese chief executive in NJ to make fun of on his program now.
Obama has egg on his face this morning but his apologists at MSNBC and in the rest of the media will faithfully shield him from any ill effects. Intellectual honesty is a casualty once again.
VERO POSSUMUS, indeed. Wee weed?
Cee as someone who use to live in New Jersey, I was so happy when the victory went to Christie. I was listening to NJ 101.5 and a lot of callers, many of them Union Members saying they just couldn't vote for Corzine.
Obama and his crew pretty much took over Corzine's re-election bid for the last month from what I read, and for Christie to win +5 (last I looked) that was big! Republicans don't win in NJ, let alone by 5 points. So yes, this was a vote on Obama and his Big Government, Big Spending ways.
Maine votes down Gay Marriage. This is not a happy time for Ray Maddow and crew. This is Olympia Snowe land, what happened? Will there be big demonstrations like there were in Calif?
Yeah, I hope Comcast gets the deal, I'm sure they don't want to pay fat-ass for 2+ years for him to sit home and collect. But I'm also sure Keith will have a meltdown and screw something up in his contract so then they can fire him and save some dough. He won't be treated like he is by Inmelt & Co.
Back to Christie, He pretty much said last night in his victory speech, they are going to have to get to work right away on the taxes, spending, & corruption in NJ. Well, just that there will take up the first four years. But you got to start somewhere.
But at least I'm looking towards the east this morning and I have a smile on my face. Thanks NJ!
Via the transcript, here is a crazy (what else is new?) WPitW:
"The bronze shared tonight by Governor Tim Pawlenty and Congressman Wrong Way Wilson of South Carolina [blue blog sources: Think Propaganda and Talking Points Memo], different guys, same hypocrisy [Ding!]. Pawlenty defining a Republican, 'you can't get endorsed by ACORN. You can't support the stimulus bill. You can't be for bank bail outs.' George W. Bush's bank bail outs, sir, supported by Governor Tim Pawlenty, all 700 billion of it. I guess, governor, you're not a Republican.
Congressman Wilson on the slow accumulation of H1N1 Vaccine in this country: 'the current administration is solely responsible. They can't blame this on any prior administration. This is the responsibility of the current administration. They put the lives of Americans at risk.'
In June, Wilson voted against the supplementary appropriations bill, which contained special funding for more H1N1 Vaccine. By the way, the Congressman's wife now has H1N1. I think this is in the Bible somewhere.
The runner-up, Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington State [blue blog source: Salon], and the GOP House leadership, clarifying Congresswoman Foxx's lunatic [Ding!] statement yesterday that health care reform was greater than any threat to this country posed by any terrorist anywhere. Congresswoman Rodgers disagrees. 'I would say it's the difference between an internal versus an external attack. Yes, this is rocking our foundation.'
Judging by your willingness to exploit [Ding!] terrorism for politics, congresswoman, and your status as one of those crazy birthers [Ding!], I would say your foundation was rocked quite awhile ago.
Speaking of which, our winner, Lonesome Rhodes Beck [Ding!] [blue blog source: HuffPo], on health care reform: 'ten years ago, I could have shouted every single day about Osama bin Laden and his wacky, crazy threats to kill Americans in New York. And nobody would have been willing to stand in line for two hours while some security officer made grandma take her shoes off. No one would have done it. But don't you see, while the government is still not willing to do these things, today America is different. America has changed. Washington, we're not going to let you get away with it anymore. The 9/12ers are willing to stand in line and take our shoes off before the plane actually hits the tower.'
Beck, shark, jump. You and the 9/12ers have the nerve to exploit 9/11 for your lousy TV ratings? You cannot make light of 9/11, nor bandy about as if your petty political grievances are comparable to it, and still be an actual patriotic American.
In short, Glenn, 9/12ers, if you're invoking 9/11 to oppose health care reform, go to hell."
In context, I present Monday's The One Thing in video and transcript form. Here is the part that was taken out of context:
"... In the 1990s I was on the radio warning people about bin Laden, not because I was some super smart genius, I just listened to his words. He said he was going to do it and I believed him. But that wasn't the top priority in America, we were dealing with fat interns and the definition of "is" and I, like the rest of America, went to sleep on the terrorist threat.
On 9/11 we experienced a feeling we've never had before; when the buildings fell, our markets and our economy came falling down with them. Suddenly, we realized that our country isn't the unsinkable ship; we came to understand this Republic is fragile.
Here we are, over a decade later, on the air again, warning you that America can't sustain our government's massive ambitions. The system will collapse if they continue down this path. *Ten years ago, I could have shouted every single day about Usama bin Laden and his wacky, crazy threats to kill Americans in New York and no one would have been willing to stand in line two hours while some security officer made grandma take off her shoes.*
*Today, things are different. America is changing. We're not letting you get away with it anymore.* Look, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice? Shame on me.
Conservatives are awake; 912ers are willing to do the hard things. They are taking time out of their busy lives, taking time away from family, they are attending town halls, they are calling their representatives and they are reading 2,000-page health care bills.
*The 912ers are willing to stand in line and take off our shoes.* But we are done trusting the people who ran Social Security into the ground and who have grossly mismanaged Medicaid to the tune of $60 billion in fraud.
Thanks, but no thanks.
We're going in a different direction and you politicians who think you are going to ride the wave of this 912 movement and continue with the same old stuff? Look out, because for you not only are 912ers willing to take off their shoes, they are willing to take off their boots and put it where the sun doesn't shine."
The Obama administration continues to lie about the effect the stimulus plan has had on jobs, yet still, I have not seen Cankles turn his "speaking truth to power," integrity towards Obama and those in the executive who have all of the power and are trying to pull a fast one with data and message......
"President Barack Obama’s economic recovery program saved 935 jobs at the Southwest Georgia Community Action Council, an impressive success story for the stimulus plan. Trouble is, only 508 people work there.
"The Georgia nonprofit's inflated job count is among persisting errors in the government's latest effort to measure the effect of the $787 billion stimulus plan despite White House promises last week that the new data would undergo an 'extensive review' to root out errors discovered in an earlier report.
"About two-thirds of the 14,506 jobs claimed to be saved under one federal office, the Administration for Children and Families at Health and Human Services, actually weren't saved at all, according to a review of the latest data by The Associated Press. Instead, that figure includes more than 9,300 existing employees in hundreds of local agencies who received pay raises and benefits and whose jobs weren’t saved.
"But officials defended the practice of counting raises as saved jobs.
"'If I give you a raise, it is going to save a portion of your job,' HHS spokesman Luis Rosero said.
"Ed DeSeve, who oversees the stimulus at the White House, said the Head Start numbers 'represent a few percent of all jobs reported' and said the problems would probably be balanced out by other errors that underreported jobs."

So, we have an administration who admits their numbers are inflated but that's ok because they assume there are jobs they saved or created that are not included in the report.....Hope and changey, uh?
Imagine President Bush doing this and the reaction of the MSM, especially the leftist shill Keith Olbermann.....Liar would be used aboutr 2-3 times per minute.
I predict a muted mongrel on this one for tonight's church of SNOBamessiah revival hour better known as COUNTDOWN....And look for Cankles to deflect any analysis that last night's election results shows any decrease in the cult's influence or in the left's radical agenda momentum.....In fact, reading the blue blogs, Cankles will double down on the radical agenda as a prescription for the democrats.
In Obama's America....up is down....wrong is right and lies are truth.....
VERO POSSUMUS, indeed. Wee weed?
For those who missed it:

Keith tells us all to 'Go to Hell'!
Projection once again during WPitW, and over 9/11 no less....
OLBERMANN: You and the 9/12ers have the nerve to exploit 9/11 for your lousy TV ratings? You cannot make light of 9/11, nor bandy about as if your petty political grievances are comparable to it,
.....Cankles.....remove plank from own eye now.......
OLBERMANN: Al Qaeda really hurt us, but not as much as Rupert Murdoch has hurt us, particularly in the case of Fox News. Fox News is worse than Al Qaeda — worse for our society. It's as dangerous as the Ku Klux Klan ever was.
###
Exploiting 9/11 for personal petty political grievances....first perfected by, by, by....not Glenn Beck but by.....
KEITH OLBERMANN...and more than 2 years ago....What a pioneer!
And recall, this lovely use of 9/11 terrorism and fear was in a PLAYBOY article...a nice place to promote COUNTDOWN and MSNBC for, for, for....what again?......
RATINGS.
Attacking FNC with the KKK and Al Qaeda....did Olbermann every apologize for doing this now that he is attacking Beck of doing it?
The answer is....is.....no.
Cankles the clown...chief leftist hypocrite and Obama apologist.
Olbermann is so emotionally unhinged he had to leave newsdesk because the election results were bad for him politically. This is the same guy who cowered behind his NYC desk "anchoring" coverage of Hurricane Gustaf during the 2008 Republican National Convention.
He's more insulated than Seinfeld's Bubble Boy. Imagine his antics during the 2010 election when the Dems flame out.
Tonight would be a fantastic night for him to work. I'm not gonna do his hw for him but Fox made more than one mistake in the past three days and that ridiculous situation in NY CD 23 writes itself.
Given this guy's history of not showing up for work when the tide is turned, I'm inclined to believe that he just went home. If it was Matthews or Maddow I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. But this just seems like another day at the office for Olbermann.

Look he even has his Superbowl Press Pass holder.
Looks like he went straight from the studio to the stadium last night. But now I don't think it's his Superbowl pass, that was blue wasn't it?
So Keith either left the desk because he can't handle defeat or he went to see his Dad in the hospital. So what is his excuse tonight? If his Dad is that sick that he had to leave work last night at 9:00pm and not do a LIVE broadcast, then he can't be at the Yankee game tonight, right?
I'm rooting so hard for the Phillies to pull it out tonight and tomorrow but that is going to be a very tall order.
Bill O'Reilly is completely ignoring the fact that he declared Doug Hoffman the winner in NY DC-23 on Monday. I expect crap like that from Olbermann but not O'Reilly.
Krazy Keith can't handle the truth
So he'll hide in the house built by Ruth
Where they call him "Two-Chair"
(Keith's shaped like a pear
And couldn't fit in a phone booth)
More genius, Katy! Brilliant!
Calling Crazy Larry!
Calling Crazy Larry!
Guess who's in the tub again?
Bill owes Juan Williams and Mary Katharine Ham--the guests in the segment when the incorrect prediction was made--respective dinners.
Yankees won.
Either Keithy will be incorrigible beyond all bounds or he's taking the next 7 shows off.
The other night, Cankles hypocritically attacked a congresswoman for using 9/11 in the healthcare reform fight calling it an "insane analogy" (Monday, to be exact, coming in THIRD in both total viewers and in the all important demo behind Nancy Grace AND BARELY beating Campbell Brown in the all important demo).....Remember now, Cankles used 9/11 in an analogy for his ever-failing quest to compete against FOX NEWS.....So how well have the attacks on FNC done for MSNBC's ratings?....especially this last election night?.....
CONGRATULATIONS TO FOX NEWS for placing first and having a total that was more than the combined totals of the other three, basically all grouped together with pathetic ratings in both total viewers and in the all important demo.....Olbermann placed in third again behind the NONPOLITICAL show on HLN, Nancy Grace, both in total viewers and in the all important demo.
MSNBC is the place for politics?....Why then did they place third at the 8PM hour with their political coverage, BEHIND HLN with their attorney host? Grace's repeat at 10PM even beat Cankles' repeat in the all important demo! Loser...it was ELECTION NIGHT!

I think NBC NEWS should be accurate and change the advert for MSNBC to.....
MSNBC, THE PLACE FOR RADICAL LEFTWING POLITICS
The cultists must have been watching basketball on the tube like the one was. Poor, poor cultists....no leader in this election to slobber emotionally over....no diety to pray to......no icon to worship.....no celebrity to chant for. SNOBamessiah is much much too busy TRYING to play a role for the next three years so the entertainment will have to wait until 2012....Can MSNBC survive that long?
MSNBC, and NBC NEWS along with the rest of the Obama lap dog media for that matter, should be out auditioning a replacement for Barack Obama to lure viewers with....Of course his skills are easily found....can read a teleprompter....check.....Nice photo and stage presence....check.....Acceptable rhetoric made flowery and attractive but without substance or experience.....double check.
Open auditions for ACTORS/ACTRESSES should be scheduled ASAP!
VERO POSSUMUS, indeed. Wee weed?
Oh my....will Cankles mention this bit of irony during tonight's show:
"It's unclear which White House staffer thought it would be a good idea to have an NBC show called 'The Biggest Loser' visit the White House in an episode that aired on what was shaping up to be a tough election night for President Obama and the Democratic party, but the contestants stopped by 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue Tuesday night as election returns came in.
"The segment featured the contestants – overweight folks trying desperately to lose weight -- harvesting vegetables in First Lady Michelle Obama's White House Kitchen Garden, with the help of assistant chef Sam Kass.
"The gang then went into the kitchen and made a big salad.
"The contestants and the hosts lavished praise on the Obamas for setting a positive example on healthy eating.
"That was followed by a video about hunger in America that so prominently featured Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Illinois, it could have been a re-election commercial."
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2009/11/the-biggest-loser-at-the-white-house-election-night.html
###
So the biggest loser meant more than just losing weight on a reality show....Poor Jon Corzine, Obama's clone in NJ, teased poor Governor-elect Christie on his poundage for political advantage these past months as well....triple irony!
I am so happy a quality NBC reality show has such access to the actor playing President these days....I doubt, however, it will help the peacock network's continuing poor ratings.
Again....imagine the jokes from Cankles if Bush had done something like the above, on election night no less.....Intellectual honesty will be tested once again, tonight on COUNTDOWN.
VERO POSSUMUS, indeed. Wee weed?
Let me make a quick point about Kieth's top story on Election night...
There is quite a difference between being smart, and being sneaky. Calling Johnny Damon's stolen bases the "smartest play in world series history" is quite a stretch if you ask me. Not only is Olbermann an incompetent "journalist", he's a lousy sports historian as well.
I wouldn't call Johnny Damon's actions smart, but rather the Phillies choice to play a shift with a man on first, poorly timed. In addition to the pitcher's failure to cover third, we can properly conclude (following me Keith), that this was poor play from the runner-up Phillies.
The hidden ball trick, and faking the intentional walk? Is that why a guy like Keith Olbermann thinks is "smart?" Ask George W. Bush about the smartest plays in WS history, a man who really knows something about baseball, I'll ignore you when it comes to sports now too, since, clearly, you have no idea what you're talking about there either...
Personally, I don't want him fired just yet. Olbermann clearly represents the angry, unhappy left of this country whose only defense is to call their opponents stupid and their actions idiotic. I think Americans will truly be angry if they actually knew how many times this poor excuse for a journalist has accused Palin, Bachmann, Beck, O'reilly, Limbaugh, Levine, Bush, or any other conservative or republican of being stupid, and instead of debating the issues, decides he'd rather find an obscure quote and play gotcha.
Love the graph with the amount of guests residing from democrat affiliations, I would love to see him answer why this is so...

Thanks besellers...in the left's fantasyland, moving LEFT is the winning way....yesterday, today and tomorrow....The facts say something else....

When Olbermann has the same old echo chamber interview with some other leftist shill tonight saying that the American people support the current versions of healthcare reform, recall the analysis of polling from HotAir....It is not true.....The spin and outright lies told by Olbermann, Obama, Pelosi and the rest of the left is even more disgusting because these are the very same people who cried, "Liar" every two seconds during the Bush Administration.
Secondly, the lies to prop up Obama and the democrats that make up the bulk of content on MSNBC is presented along with the critique that only FNC promotes a specific agenda, 24/7.....That makes it all absolutely absurd.
MSNBC, The Place for Radical Leftwing Politics!
From Colby Hall at Mediaite: Olbermann Offers Limited Coverage Of Republican Election Victory.
Nothing to see here. Stupid unorganized pizza delivery guys only shot a few people. Olby wants to know what the big deal is.
Another low occurred last night with O'Donnell at the helm: Michael Musto dressed in drag as Sarah Palin. Then, he did a mock impression of her reading speeches that she never got to read on Election Night last year.
J$, you have to do another "great moments in journalism" video with Musto as Palin.
Murrow would be proud of Keith!
Holy freaking Mariska!
