We reported earlier on the vicious personal attack Keith Olbermann spewed at Floyd Abrams. Mr Abrams is the father of Dan Abrams, MSNBC legal analyst, but as a first amendment attorney he dared to represent a client Oralmann didn't like. So Keith maniacally smeared Mr Abrams, who is Jewish, by comparing him with a Nazi.
Now the Media Institute, dedicated to defending the first amendment, has demanded that Edward R Olbermann issue a public apology for his slander. Their open letter, which deserves to be read in full, pulls no punches:
For any Jew to be compared to a Nazi collaborator is vile, but in the case of Floyd is simply beyond comprehension.... If you believe that attorneys should be personally vilified whenever they advocate a cause you oppose or a client you dislike, we would like to know how you believe our system is supposed to work. Many of the freedoms you enjoy as a journalist exist because of the work of Floyd Abrams throughout his exemplary career. Yet even if Mr. Abrams had not blazed important paths for the rights of the press, he does not deserve to be personally insulted, which for you may have seemed like nothing more than a clever turn of phrase.... But we also look forward to your public apology to Floyd Abrams for your unwarranted personal attack.
Our advice to the Media Institute: don't hold your breath waiting for that Olbypology. Comparing people to Nazis is nothing new for the infamous, deplorable Keith Olbermann. Whether it was giving the "Sieg Heil" salute (for which he was admonished by the ADL), or comparing Fox News to Nazis, not to mention calling the Bush administration facist and likening it to the Third Reich, Herr Olbermahn has never been able to purge himself of the compulsion to demean his enemies with the Nazi comparison.
From the OlbyWatch archives, a little remembrance of Keith's love/hate relationship with the Nazi smear:
Discuss, resolve, and recap the week's last Hour of Spin. Comments are open!
Uh-oh, Crazy Larry is at it again regarding torture. What's the highlight from his latest tirade? He started pitching a fit because Rove hired real medical doctors who ascertained that the detainees would suffer no lasting damage or long-term affects from water boarding. So I guess we only trust the opinions of doctors who want to jam Obama care down our throats. Doctors who know the true medical effects of waterboarding are anti-American traitors.
Then Crazy Larry invited Col. Wilkenson on to call Dick Cheney and Karl Rove cowards for not serving in the military. I guess I missed the part where Clinton and Obama served in the armed services. Using Crazy Larry logic, isn't Clinton a coward for blowing up the aspirin factory in Yugoslavia? Seems to me that blowing up a medicine production facility caused a hell of a lot more pain and suffering to INNOCENT civilians as opposed to what waterboarding does to terrorists. Of course, I don't actually think Bill Clinton was a coward, but these liberal whiners invite these comparisons upon themselves whenever they start questioning the military service of others.
It appears that Larry will be closing out his turn to run the hour of spin for a Beck attack. Hey MSNBC, Glenn Beck already clarified on his radio show today that he was referring to churches that would rather shift the burden of charity from their congregations to the government. He was specifically referring to Rev. Wright when he said that individuals should run away from the churches that blame society for the problems their members face. In addition, Larry and the Rev. Jim Wallis now completely twisted their attack on Beck to focus on denying gays and lesbians prominent roles within the church. Did Beck ever actually say such a thing? Of course not, he was only talking progressive monetary policy. The real icing of the cake is when Rev. Wallis absolutely ripped into Mr. Beck for a good three minutes about how America should stop watching his show, how he doesn't know anything about theology, etc, then ends his segment by saying "Glenn Beck has attacked me, but I have never attacked him". No wonder why America ignores this joke of a network, they invite guests on who insult others for entire segments and then deny they were attacking the person.
It's amazing how MSNBC can invite these religious guests on whenever it suits their liberal world view. They will bring on as many Christians as possible who want to attack Beck's success, but then they sweep them under the rug when it comes to abortion in the health care bill. The VERY NEXT SEGMENT after the Beck religion bitch fest was a segment where Crazy Larry insulted Stupack for being pro-life. How dare Stupack speak out about his religious beliefs! In the new progressive America, you can only talk about your faith if you are attacking Republicans or Blue Dog Democrats!
What I don't get is why Democrats want to push the abortion issue, which, in elective instances, is counterproductive to everything health care is supposed to be about...
The truth isn't Olbermahn's style
He'd rather spew anger and bile
Dan was his boss
Under bus he will toss
Comparing Jews to Nazis is vile
it's not about healthcare MK, its about power! when are you gonna wise-up?
I actually commend you, MK. That was the most rational comment I've seen from you. I wish you were like that all the time.
MKDAWUSS,
I think they are pushing it because it gives them an 'Out". They want to vote for the bill and make their leaders happy. But it will be political seppukku. They don't want to willingly fall on their swords. It allows them to hold out, keeping their constituents happy ( by not voting for the bill) and it gives them an answers to the Democrat arm twisters that those same arm-twisters can do little about.
Or it could be about convictions. Nah! Who am I kidding? These are politicians we're talking about. Abortion is an 'Out'.
If this were most people this "quisling" thing wouldn't be an issue. It was a stupid comment and normally life would go on.
But this is not the case. Keith Olbermann constantly accuses his peers of name calling, lying, fear mongering, being racist, etc. He sets a high standard for himself and never follows it. And none of his fans call him out on it, rather, they praise him or make excuses for him. This is what makes him the biggest hypocrite on the planet.
Now all of a sudden he's too busy again to respond to this letter. He has time to rip Bill Simmons and lay out the 8 p.m. MSNBC schedule over the past 12 years but he doesn't have time to issue an apology.
I'm sure he's already made one, but I'd love to hear MK's excuse for Olbermann on this most recent transgression. I'm sure it goes along the lines of "Give him a break! His father's sick!", even though he has time to write lengthy blogs about bullshit.
Another case of Olbermann using the facts again, huh MK?

Didn't Olbermann flip his lid when Condi brought up Hitler in reference to Hussein? And all she was doing was making a comparison to the circumstances of WW2 to illustrate a point about the Iraq war authorization (if I remember correctly).
That was way too far according to Olbermann. But a free speech case doesn't go the way he would like, and bring on the Nazi references. And in that same special comment he also brought up the Dred Scott case which I thought was over the line as well.
I re-watched the Special Comment in question. It really is a doozy.
As far as I know, none of us wrote it, MK. I sure didn't.

Who are you? My F'N dad? But since you have your'e panties in a wad over this.
From that KOS post:
Keith Olbermann 10/09/08
"New York Senator Clinton, an adopted Giants fan watched the game in Minnesota and told the Associated Press, quote, "Super Bowl, Super Tuesday, we've got one down, let's get the other." This as her husband watched the game in New Mexico with the former governor, or with the governor and former presidential Bill Richardson, possibly asking Richardson for an endorsement and then, "would you please pass the guacamole?"
Now, you're precious little boy Keith didn't get fired over that. HELL! He didn't even get suspended! Just big yucks all around from the stage crew. I bet you got a kick out it too.
Well, It's nice to see that ESPN (a place where Keith is banned from) & NASCAR have higher standards then gutter boy.

Bob Griese got suspended for two weeks!
There's a reason why the word JERK is in 'knee jerk reaction'.
Keith's father has passed away. My condolenes go out to the family, even Keith.
This doesn't change my opinion of you Mr. Olbermann....but I do wish you well in this tragic time.
As everyone here knows, I don't like Keith and have a low opinion of him.
That said, my condolences to Keith and his family.
While my opinion also has not changed about you sir
I do send my condolences and sympathies upon your loss
I sincerly hope that Keith takes time to reflect upon his loss and uses this time to reconsider his career and the way he carries his show.
When I lost my father 10 years ago from ALS, it made me look at my life and it was a rough patch. You truly never get totally over it. But it cannot help but to force you to change parts of your life.
I fear that Keith will indeed make a change, a change for the worse. I just feel that there isn't one sympathetic bone in Keith's body. And he'll amp it up to 11 when he gets back.
RIP
Memo to the Ape Ruler:
May all your hatred and vile lies...R.I.P.
May your hatred for your country and the fighting men and women who defend it for YOU...R.I.P.
May your ugly and untrue accusations for anybody who simply disagrees with you...R.I.P.
May all your hatred for white men and women who take a stand against the President's policies...R.I.P.
May your unsubstantiated and mean spirited attacks against Sarah Palin, George Bush, Bill O'Reilly...fill in the blank...R.I.P.
May all your jealousies towards anybody who is smarter/more successful...R.I.P.
May all your sociopathic ways...R.I.P.
May all the sympathy you tried to garner for your father finally...R.I.P.
...and last but not least...may all your bitterness to all the good people in this country, who for some reason you feel compelled to attack without mercy, may it all, and the reasons behind this bitterness...R.I.P.
God have mercy on your father because to me he died a saint, as he had to bear the pain and agony of having to admit that he spawned someone as horrible as you. Thankfully for his sake he has passed on, and he is now rejoicing for his days of hell on earth are finally over. R.I.P. Ted...you deserve it more than most.
that pretty much says it all for us wolverine--well spoken!
That doesn't say it for me at all. I don't want anything to do with that BS.
I'm not gonna use someone's personal issues to springboard into an attack on their public conduct.
We all know what's going to happen. Keith will come on monday in a pre-taped segment (His ass will actually be at Yankee Spring training- to properly mourn his dad of course) stating how that only if we had Obama-ONEcare that his dad would still be alive. And damn those evil republicans and Bart Stupak for killing his dad.
Remember, this is the side that had Ted Kennedy's grandchildren to pimp single payer health care at his funeral.
Sorry, if this is crossing a line. But Keith has no sympathy for others, so I will show him none.
His rules, I'm just playing by them.
I lost me dad to agent orange Jan 22, 1991
he was in two wars , korea and vietnam
trust me , it hurts and that hurt last a long time.
The loss of my dad affected me in a way that made me look at my life and at the world around me, it opened my eyes and made me think plenty.
Maybe Keith will find his revelation as I did and be more thoughtful and retrospect..
then again this is olbermann we are talking about and as they say, a lepoard cant change its spots..
My comment at 8:29 pm last night still stands.
However, I want to give a warning to Keith if he's reading this:
Do NOT try to use your father's death to press Congress to pass their Health Care bill.
Example: "Because Congress has dithered and has not passed the Health Care Reform, my father died."
For that matter, also none of the other stuff that you've been doing lately like "If you disagree with me, then you are a racist, sexist, etc."
If you do, Keith, we will definitely hold you accountable--big time.
You have been warned, Keith.
Keith Olbermann believes he’s entitled to a sympathetic response when it is he who is in a state of sorrow, yet he feels no compulsion to offer any sensitivity or compassion when someone on his long hate list is in similar straits.
Examples:
He mocks elderly television viewers as being in the 65 to dead demographic. In June 2006, he took delight in proclaiming that O'Reilly's viewers are "dying off." Now that his father is in the above demo and has “died off” are we to disregard his comments as simply an attempt at humor? I, instead, will view them for what they are – a mean-spirited mockery of the elderly, derived from his deep-seated hatred for Bill O’Reilly.
In April, 2009, Olbermann read a quote from an Ohio county commissioner proclaiming his intention not to use any of the federal stimulus money. The commissioner cited Reagan’s famous line that "government is the problem," prompting Olbermann to say: "… Reagan's dead and he was a lousy President." Now that his father is “dead,” should we refer to his death in such a flip manner? Over the last several weeks, Olbermann has spoken of his father’s condition in a dire and serious manner on his show, his baseball blog and anywhere else there was a set of ears. His grave and earnest tone, however, is only reserved for those Olbermann deems worthy. All others are fair game for derision and ridicule.
In August, 2008, Michael Moore was a guest on "Countdown" and he quipped that he thought Hurricane "Gustav is proof that there is a God in heaven" because it was "on its way to New Orleans for day one of the Republican Convention." Olbermann did not challenge Moore for his irresponsible words. As it turned out, Hurricane Gustav was the second most destructive hurricane of the 2008 Atlantic hurricane season, resulting in an estimated 153 deaths. These two buffoons actually surmised that this natural disaster would be preferable to a successful Republican Convention.
Apparently death to O'Reilly's viewers or for the benefit of Democratic political candidates are topics for laughter, but we must all become somber when it's Keith's loss.

By johnnie_h on March 14, 2010 3:02 PM
Now is syvyn and johnnie_h being mean or are they telling it like it is? I don't think it's any kind of a stretch to say that both these posts are about as accurate as anything the Ape Ruler has done in the past. So, if you believe the premise, and I don't see why anybody here who knows the Ape Ruler would not believe it, then why would anybody at the same time give their condolences to him because of the passing of his father? Makes no sense, and smacks of hypocrisy.
Do we accept that he has an evil agenda against all that is good in this country, while at the same time acknowledge that he has done everything in his power everyday to destroy innocent lives simply because he is a bitter sick individual, but then throw all those belief's out and give him our sympathy because a member of his family died?
Must we forget all the wrongs he has done to so many people, and yet at the same time, let him know how much we are with him in his loss?
I don't know man, but I'm sure we all have met a few people that have made us the enemy for some reasons of their own, and with no justification except for their own prejudices, and do you think for a second we'd send these few our condolences when a love one of theirs died? I'd just as soon send every German who tried to kill my father during WWII my condolences when their love ones died.
Do all of you who read the obit page send your condolences to these people you don't even know? I don't think so, but at the same time you'll take your time to send them to a man who you do know who would do all he could to destroy you if he knew he could?
Man, it all smacks of something he would do...and has done... after he has ripped that same person to shreds, while after the death of that person he sends his condolences.
Can't do it in good conscience, but that's just me.
And johnnieh kudo's to you for telling it like it is.
I have sympthay for The elder Mr. Olbermann. But as I said many times, you do not piss on Karma as many times that Olby does and expect good things to happen. Any shit Keith gets from this, he has earned.
I don't take delight in his father's death, but he reaps what he sows.
According to the nuts over at Newsweek, (howie finemann) instead of flowers, people are ask to make donations to the free health clinics in Theo's name. So he's turning his Dad's memory now pimp the clinics, resulting into what some of you were saying earlier, more pimping out of his NOW late Dad in an attempt to get health care passed.
I guess if KO had his way, the bill would be named after Theo.
Even in the face of his fathers passing, the jerk shows his true colors..
I can see it now, on countdown..
"my father died on saturday, I will ask President Obama to rename the health bill for my father, he wouldve loved it "
What a ......fill in the blank!
I'll try to explain my basic point. There are two arguments that seem to be prevalent on this site.
1) Keith Olbermann unfairly tries to use his father's illness to advance partisan political points.
2) Keith Olbermann was at a baseball game, he doesn't really care about his father.
Now. In my view number one is completely fair game. If someone uses such blatant appeals to emotion in order to try and paint their opponents as monsters, simply because they disagree on a political issue, they deserve to be called out for it.
Now. Number 2 is not fair game in my view. It's about Olbermann personally. No need for it. The insinuation seems to be that Olbermann doesn't really care about his father. Come on. That's in poor taste. You look no better than Keith himself when you engage in that sort of BS. I'm not saying offer him condolences, I'm just saying lay off the "His father should be disappointed in this punk!" stuff, or "Karma gets you!" Karma? Really? People actually believe in magic? An old man dying = karma? Give me a break.
Before we start attacking Olby for his likely future conduct regarding his father's death, let's give him the benefit of the doubt and actually wait until he does say something really stupid. I don't know what the funeral arrangements are for his father, but I am going to take a guess that Olbermann won't even be making a prerecorded segment this week, and if he does, it won't be until Thursday or Friday.
You never know, perhaps if he actually contemplates his behavior in relation to the failing health of his father, he will understand how silly he has sounded the last month. Then again, I also wouldn't be shocked if he recorded a segment for Countdown during the visitation/burial of his dad. That being said, the guy's father just died, and I'm inclined to cut him a little slack over the next week. I just hope he has a producer/crew member who will talk him out of doing anything completely overboard.

As much as I'd like to rip on Olby and his insanity, now is not the time. Let his father be put to rest. We are not flaming a-holes, after all, like Olbermann and his far left lunatic fringe pals.
Give him a week and then resume smashing him as he's certainly earned it.

Just saw Tur on TWC interviewing Bret Michaels (Poison) creamin' her jeans. She seems unusually upbeat. Wonder Why???
To listen to crazy Larry, I didn't know who he was eulogizing, Theo or Keith?
"He did more than was asked from any son!" WTF? I took care of my dad when he was dying of ALS, I cooked his meals, I arranged his medications, I got him to every appointment, I did all the cleaning, cooking, shopping. Not to mention keep on as a full time student and working weekends at a amusment park. What have you been doing Keith? WE DON'T KNOW! Now granted, my bitching is aimed at Crazy Larry for giving Bathtub boy sainthood, but there are sons and daughters who went through (and are going through) worse than I did. So Mr. O'Donnell, SHUT THE HELL UP!
...and most of them did and are doing it with far less money than KO.
Tell me about it. Only had $100 a week of my own money and $800 a month of disability insurance my dad bought two years before, $500 a month is Social Security (despite being 3 months away from his 65th birthday). One of his drugs cost $300 a month (until his VA benefits kicked in and co-pay went to $5).
Thing is that he only collected six checks before he died. Me and my sister also got his death benifit of $250. My dad paid in almost $100,000 in SS taxes in his working life. And all that money went to someone else when he died.
Keith has MILLIIONS to provide his dad with the best, he doesn't need Obama Care!
Keith never intentionally gave the Nazi salute. That picture of him with the O'Reilly mask caught him mid-wave, giving the impression that he was doing it.
Don't you baselessly attack Keith on a daily basis for hosting an alleged "hour of spin"? Why are you spinning the context of the photo?
I'm smelling a double standard.
I don't know if that's true (it doesn't look true...what's the point of just waving with an O'Reilly mask?) but I take it you don't have a problem with the rest of the video.
I haven't watched the video. I don't plan on it.
BTW, Keith said in an interview (it might have been in "Truth And Consequences") that he was at some event and before he went on stage someone behind the scenes made a little Bill O'Reilly mask and thought it would be fun if Olbermann went out with it. So, he did.
He said he was waving at the audience and the above photo, which has been widely circulated, catches him in the middle of waving.
Well, if OLBERMANN said that, it MUST be true!
So you can't be bothered to watch a two minute video? Are you afraid?
I've seen plenty of Olbermann Watch video.....yeah. Some jealous bitching by Red Eye and John Gibson is serious dirt on Olbermann? Sure.
It's easy to avoid debate if you don't watch the video...if indeed you have refrained from watching it. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if you have not though. The symptom of all KO admiration is lethargy and/or cowardice...and I suspect psychosis in most cases as well.
I'll give you a hint on the above video, krhbacon. Neither John Gibson nor Red Eye are in the video.
Alright, I have watched it.
Firstly, Olbermann has pointed out that when you ever do Nazi comparisons, you must do so with care. From what I have seen, Keith has done so. And he doesn't do it on a regular basis, he doesn't point and say "Nazi!" on a nightly basis.
Secondly, Olbermann Watch needs to stop claiming that Keith was doing the Sieg Heil in that photo. If him caught mid-wave is 'bad taste', then this must be bad taste too:
http://boilingpotusa.files.wordpress.com/2007/01/bush_sieg_heil.jpg
What he SAID is that it is deplorable to compare someone to Hitler and the Nazis when they do not hold a candle up to that kind of evil.
And I guess I'm either expected to come rushing to defend Bush or just shut up after seeing that picture. News Flash: This is not Bush Watch and the point of the video is to point out Olbermann's hypocrisy...so whatever Bush does is irrelevant. I dare say though, if I had to guess who was really giving the Nazi solute, I'd guess it was the man obscuring his face with the image of his greatest opponent.
I couldn't have agreed more with Olberman's take on the crisis the Supreme Court has foisted on us. I note you all can't DISPUTE the things Olberman says about the SC ruling... but since you're too... uninformed to really understand the implications, its just easier to flap your gums and your arms and squawk because you THINK you agree with the ruling.
We'll see how y'all feel when some large company dumps poison in your schoolyard, then spend $12M. Not to clean it up, but to take out adds to defeat the local Congressional official who is calling for an investigation.
Money isn't speech. Companies don't have consciences, and they're not motivated by anything besides making money. The role Floyd Abrams plays does indeed look like the roll of a Quisling. Its just too bad whoever writes this ridiculous blog doesn't get that.
One way for a company to lose money, is to start dumping poison in schoolyards.
But. In order for me to buy into your view Tester, or Olbermann's view that allowing companies to spend more money on advertising = the end of democracy, I'd have to believe that the population is extremely dumb.
Do you REALLY think people are that easy to fool? And, if you think people are that dumb, why do you support democracy in the first place?
I don't understand the logic here. Obviously you won't be fooled by the advertising (neither will Olbermann) but why do people like you assume you are so much smarter, and more clever than everyone else?
Is THAT what he's talking about? Well, I'd like to ask Tester why he thinks something that was put in place waaaaaaay back in 2002 is going to result in Armageddon. How did we SURVIVE before then?
