Oh that Obama! He didn't do what Olbermann told him to do. Krazy Keith spent yesterday hyperventilating about General McChrystal, telling the Prez not to accept his resignation, but instead "Keep him, Mr President". That way Obama will "neuter the political blowback" and "present a front of force and calm and intelligence".
But Obama didn't listen to Herr Olbermahn. Maybe the Prez was influenced by the writings at Keith Olbermann's blog, where they declared that McChrystal is a "monstrous thug", an example of the military's "pathological criminals": "half murderer, and all evil". Yes, our old friends at Daily Kos, recently described by member Olbermann as "a nice site".
But there's a bigger problem on OlbyPlanet. Obama went and appointed General Petraeus. You remember Olbermann on Petraeus, don't you?
Mr. Bush, you had no right to order General Petraeus to become your front man. And he obviously should have refused that order, and resigned rather than ruin his military career.... Mr. Bush, you have hidden behind the general`s skirts... That, sir, is not only un-American, it is dictatorial. And in pimping General David Petraeus, sir, in violation of everything this country has been assiduously and vigilantly against for 220 years...
But that's hardly Oralmann's most egregious insult to the General. You will recall the famed moveon "Petraeus Betray Us" ad, questioning the General's patriotism? The moveon folks have quickly moved to scrub that ad from their website. But as readers of Olbermann Watch have known for years, the Petraeus/BetrayUs smear was not thought up by moveon. Before their ad even appeared, the infamous, deplorable Keith Olbermann was impugning the General's patriotism live, on air, bellowing:
KEITH OLBERMANN, MSNBC HOST: Which of these stories will you be talking about tomorrow? The Petraeus report, less Petraeus, more Betray Us.
And just to make sure nobody missed the point, he put his slur right up on the tv screen:
Yes, Keith "Man on Fan" Olbermann is the author of Petraeus/BetrayUs. Moveon stole it from Olby. And now Monkeymann is about to go on the air and...do what? Slam Petraeus anew? Accuse Obama of pimping him? Repeat his "BetrayUs" smear? Or just pretend like none of that ever happened and gush over Obama's choice as if he was for Petraeus all along?

I'm torn. On one hand, you do not speak ill of your commanders, you keep your damn mouth shut. On the other hand, Obama took 133 days to figure out what to do in Afghanistan after McChrystal asked for help. It took him less than two days to dress down and fire the General.
I thought it was nice of Obama to nominate Petraeus to this operation, considering Petraeus was in charge of the troop surge then Senator Obama said was not a success.
This is a direct endorsement of George W. Bush's Middle East strategy. Fucking hypocrite.

Olby just said the US soccer win was the biggest win in American Men's team sports since the Miracle on Ice!!!! Really??!?!?!? Getting out of the first round? Was that team they played really anywhere close to an equivalent of the Soviet Union Hockey Team?
Through his actions, he revealed his real intentions... which were simply to play himself calling the Miracle on Ice game as a younger sportscaster.

My thoughts exactly. Of course I am rooting for the U.S. but that comparison was waaaaaay off base. IMO, the USA beating Russia was the biggest upset in sports history. A bunch of college kids beating a group of professionals who had won 4 straight Olympic gold metals in hockey...C'mon.
But the piece had NOTHING to do with soccer or hockey. It had everything to do with OLBY. He had to get his mug in there somewhere (narcisstic personality disorder again) and ruin the entire segment.

I flipped away from ESPN in the 89th minute and missed the goal. When I put it back on five minutes later, I saw a jubilant Team USA. I was pleasantly surprised. I don't think they'll get far in the knockout stage, though.

The biggest game since the Miracle on Ice? Doesn't this failed sportscaster remember when the United States beat Mexico IN THE ROUND OF 16 in 2002? I can't stand soccer, but I seem to recall that Mexico was heavily favored in that game, and it was a sudden-death elimination game, not this group play crap where the United States beat Algeria. The same Algeria which didn't score an entire goal all World Cup, and nobody thought stood a chance of sniffing the round of 16.
Hell, the United States beating Canada in hockey group play at the Vancouver Olympics was a bigger victory for U.S. sports. That was on Canadian ice, and we were heavily favored to lose. You can't call a victory a big deal if you were expected to destroy the opposing team. How did this guy last so long on ESPN?
Yeah. Comparing the United States beating a mediocre Algeria team (who we were supposed to beat) to get out of the first round of the world cup to the Miracle on Ice is a huge overstatement.
Perhaps as big of an overstatement as the Tiger Woods / Ali comparison that threw Olby into a tizzy.
But, Keith Olbermann wanted an excuse to play the clip of himself talking about the Miracle on Ice, as others have correctly noted.

I love that all the commenters on MSNBC keep saying that Obama showed leadership on the McChrystal incident. Notice none of them ever say he is leading, just "showing leadership". How sad is it when the people most in Obama's pocket can only come up with "showing leadership" as a compliment after he has been in office for 18 months?
Syvyn, I am not sure what the "something for nothing crowd" means. But I have a guess.
An oft repeated liberal talking point about the tea party is how polls show that many of them do not want medicare, or social security to be abolished. So, combine that with their anti-tax message, and the talking point becomes they want government programs, but they don't want to pay for them.
Hence; "something for nothing".
So in other words... KEITH IS LIKE THE NEUTERED DOG!!! He just doesn't get it.
The "something for nothing" comment comes from a story that I think Media Matters (or maybe Think Progress, but definetly one of his rip and read sources) did several months ago. Whoever it was found someone that they then labeled a leader of the tea party in some state (I forget which one) and when they asked him what he did for a living he said he was on unemployment. That night Olby did a story where he claimed all the tea-party people where out of work republicans getting money from the government and therefore a "something for nothing" phrase was thrown out. It's stupid and petty, everything Olby loves.

What a shocker...David Weigel, a regular on Meltdown, is really a liberal!!!!

If Obama was trying to subvert and bypass the Congress and the courts, how come the White House is appealing a judge's ruling on offshore drilling? If that were the case, he'd've given the judge the Massachusetts state bird, and done it anyway. If he were Hitler, as you try to compare, he'd have the judge shot.
Also, when has he tried to "piss on the Constitution and wipe his ass with it?" Didn't Bush do some of the same things, causing KO to rally against it, telling him not to abuse the powers granted to his office?

Typical Wussy logic. Take a single isolated incident in order to disprove an alleged pattern of behavior. I don't think that Obama is anything close to Hitler, but using the oil drilling moratorium as evidence that he follows the Constitution isn't very persuasive. Remember why the judge even had to rule on this issue? Because Obama went around Congress by issuing an Executive Order on a subject he had no jurisdiction over. To turn around and say that Obama followed proper procedure during the appeal process completely ignores the issue. Most Americans are really starting to despise the way that Obama and all other previous Presidents have expanded the use of EOs as a means of subverting separation of powers. Stop blaming Bush and realize that Obama is using the same tactics that liberals bitched and moaned about for the last decade.
If you have a policy initiative you want to achieve, find a bill sponsor in Congress and introduce it via the means established in the Constitution. Using an executive order is an open admission that you don't have the public/congressional support to pass it through traditional means. Why do we accept this garbage year after year? Most kids today couldn't even being to explain what a bill is, let alone the difference between a bill and an executive order. America doesn't have much time left if we accept such low standards in basic civics education. And people like Wuss are even worse. They know the difference, yet don't think it's a big deal that the President swaps an executive order for a bill he can't pass. Well, he thought it was an impeachable offense if George W. Bush was in the White House. Obama apparently uses the process to save America.

Now I am not a Constitutional lawyer so there may be more but I think the list above is plenty already.
In all fairness. You can't really fault them for ignoring the 10th. Nobody pays attention to that.
Hell. People on the left have even tried to invent a little conspiracy-esque nickname for people who claim the 10th amendment has meaning. "Tenthers".
Their argument is usually that the "general welfare" clause gives government the power to basically override the 10th. But, using their logic, it would also give the government the power to override any amendment.
The real reason behind it, is that they use the general welfare clause as an excuse to ignore the 10th because it is inconvenient to their big government philosophy.
Thing is that Obama IS supposed to be a constitutional lawyer. He should already know this stuff.

The above is the preamble to the Constitution and also the source of the so-called "general welfare clause". Anyone besides me see the problem here? If not, allow me to illuminate without providing heat: The writers of the constitution but the means of prviding for the general welfare right in front of our faces! Let's look at it this way
"We the People of the United States, in Order to ... promote the general Welfare ... do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."
Everything I replaced with "..." is in additional clause, not an either-or clause, and therefore I did not change the meaning of the preamble. Therefore the way we as Americans "promote the general welfare" is by "ordain[ing] and establish[ing] this Constitution for the United States of America". Anything beyond that is a bastardization of the original meaning of the founders. Any time a progressive tells you that we need to do something to "promote the general welfare" please realize there is no justification for it in the preamble.
general welfare is mentioned in the preamble, but the "General Welfare Clause" is in Article I.
Also. As a side note. My foray into Twitter has ended. I signed up for Twitter to see if I could get Keith to respond to me. He did, eventually. Called me a shlub. And then blocked me. The tweet that got me blocked:

Article 1 Section 8 starts with:
"The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;"
Is this what you mean by the "gerneral welfare clause" in the Constitution? If so this only says that congress can raise money to pay for those things that provide for the general welfare and what provides for the general welfare is the Constitution itself. The concept of the congress using a "general welfare clause" to pass bills has no justification in the Constitution.
Yeah. That's typically what people are talking about when they say "general welfare clause".
There's different interpretations of what that clause means. I tend to view it more narrowly. Which I think you'd agree with.
And I didn't mean to say they used it to pass bills. They just use it to justify ignoring the tenth amendment.
Also...I don't claim to be a constitutional scholar or anything. So all of my opinions on the matter are from a laymen.
Alas, your grasp on the constitution is better than Obama's or Olby's.
