I don't think it's fair to call Olbermann the "professional left". Look at the journolist leaks involving Olbermann. The "professional left" basically see Olbermann as a joke. Let me pontificate for a minute.

You see, Olbermann is a joke on the left. The left doesn't want to be spoonfed left talking points, well most of them don't (and hence Olby's terrible rating). They want to see progressive commentators bring on conservatives and then tear them apart. It doesn't matter who the conservative is, he could be the most ignorant and inarticulate person you can find, so long as he believes something you disagree with. The problem is that Obly is the most ignorant and inarticulate person you can find so it's impossible for him to find someone lower on the political knowledge scale then himself, right or left.

Therefore I contend that Olbermann is not the "professional left". He does not rank high enough to fill that spot. People like Maddow and Matthews are more able to claim the "professional left" title because they at least have debates, sometimes civil, sometimes not. To the political left, Olbermann is nothing more than an albatross hanging around their neck. I believe they prefer having someone like O'Reilly for an enemy then Olbermann for a friend.

As long as Olbermann is nothing more then a depot of talking points he will never rise to the level where anyone in the current democratic ruling class will take notice of him. Do you doubt that? If so look at what politicians he has on his show, the crack pots and crazies like Weiner, Kucinich and Grayson. Meanwhile Pelosi, Reid and Obama save themselves for the other shows on MSNBC.

So no, Olbermann is not the "professional left". He's not even a convinving "amateur left". He's a joke and only the people who are so insecure in their political believes will watch his show because they know they will never be forced to think about why they support an issue or be faced with a view that opposes their believes.

And so I say to you, Mr. Olbermann, I am truelly, dreadfully sorry that you will never be considered important enough to be considered the "professional left". Perhaps sir, it is time for you to admit this to yourself and slip off into the obscurity you so rightfully deserve.
