Who cares? Probably no one, but here's a look at tonight's Hour of Spin:
Comments are open!
First for your Thurber Free Video of the Week.
This weeks selection is one of my songs of fall, Rush (sure to send a chill to Olby) with "time stand still".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nc4GcTA83aA
Next, the party starts.
What the fucking hell was that with Colbert? Why is he there running shtick in front of a congressional committee? To paraphrase Murror, Congressmen and women, have you no shame? Of course Olby treated it as it was deadly serious, to him it is, he has no fucking sense of humor. If what is he a expert of? This describe this congress to a "t", everything is a fucking joke to them. And when I say "Them" I mean leadership.
Been a rough day. Been playing phone tag with ATT all day about my DSL. I'm leeching off the McDonald's wi-fi next door to get this done.
Like a congresional committee that thinks everything is a joke to a failed sports caster who couldn't see a joke if it hit him up his head...... IT'S THE WPITW ABSTRACT!!!!
Brought to you by FALL. HURRY UP AND COOL DOWN, I'm sick of 90s in setempber.
Bronze- Pat Strickler: for the sin of taking responsibility for a spelling mistake.
Silver- Sharron Angle: For offending parents of special needs kids. This was followed by Olby's mea culpa to Sister Sarah for all the things Olby and the left said about her kids.(/snark)
GOLD: Two time winner this week Liz Cheney for calling out Obama's weakness on terrorism. Olby steals from "think progress" for this one. Olby with a gotcha moment. Because both administrations used "absorbed", THEY DIDN'T MEAN THE SAME THING. BUY A FUCKING CLUE!
Only 10 minutes to the season premire of CSI:NY. With Sela Ward in the cast. Before there was a Mariska Hargitay, there was Sela. Been a fan of her's since her "Sisters" days. Yowzers.
Well, drag out the DVD Player, find the prison docs, put them on "repeat", make sure Rachel has pleanty of trash bags to clean up the news room and lock things up at 30 Rock. IT'S THE WEEKEND!!! Looks like we made it. Well, GOD willing, I'll have the DSL fixed and if I've got anything, it's off to MickeyD's to use there Wi-Fi. If there is nothing, I'll see you guys on Monday. So until then. Enjoy the first weekend of fall. And, Let's be careful out there.
#3: Colbert was funny, but serious, too, says Olbermahn. Closed-captioning:
>>> after the breathless [Ding!] leadup to comedian stephen colbert's testimony to congress today, the knee jerks [Ding!] got what they wanted, stephen colbert as the demented pundit he plays on tv did a few minutes of shtick at a meeting. then there is the rest of the story that few bothered to cover, the truth he spoke, not the truthiness. along with being funny, he was also serious, even eloquent when testifying about the plight of america's migrant farm workers. this week on his program colbert aired a two-part series about the migrant workers. colbert spent a day alongside some of them at a farm in upstate new york. he was asked to testify today at the meeting called protecting america's harvest. colbert agreed to appear in character and remain as a witness. leading up to the hearing, the people on fox news freaked out [Ding!].
[Out-of-context clips featuring the word "ridiculous".]
>> said the moron [Ding!] from fox. david corn of mother jones pointed out the humorous in mark twain set the standard for funny men testifying before congress at a hearing on copyrights and casey stengel spoke gibberish on antitrust exemption for baseball. as colbert noted, he's not the first to appear in character to congress. elmo perfect sesame street testified to the house after a request of then republican congressman randy duke cunningham. didn't hear fox complaining about that. mr. cunningham is now serving time for tax evasion and bribery and hasn't seen elmo in years. [Gotcha!] this morning, the media swarmed on colbert as he entered the meeting room. john conyers asked colbert to submit his opening statement in writing and leave. colbert deferred to lofgren the chairwoman for call. she said he should stay. conyers retracted his request and colbert delivered his opening remarks.
...
>> colbert was seated with a panel of witnesses still in character he had several exchanges including this one with congressman lamar smith of texas.
...
>> congressman darrell issa tweeting stephenathome just endorsed our pledge to america. of course he did. california representative judy chu got her chance to question the comedian. she took the opportunity seriously as did colbert.
...
>> note to the right, he was quoting christ there if you didn't recognize it.
Bottom line: If you're progressive like Colbert, you thought his appearance was worthwhile and loved every second of it. If you're to the right of center left, it was disgraceful. I guess I'm a moronic Fox viewer for saying that.
NewsBusters: Rep. Weiner's Anti-Goldline/Beckophobia Crusade Falls Flat. Video from last night's #1 shown. On-screen graphic: "Golden Grills"? Not funny. Estelle Getty, Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan, and Herb Edelman (the guy who semi-regularly played Stan, Dorothy's ex-husband) must be rolling over in their graves.
"If you're to the right of center left, it was disgraceful. I guess I'm a moronic Fox viewer for saying that."
Then what does that make me for agreeing?
Besides the facts Jeff Poor at NB, Goldline also sponsors a few liberal radio shows and (albeit unintentionally) the Fox-hating website Newshounds, as documented in the latest Fox Haters Week in Review:
"And now, Breaking News:
Rep. Weiner To Investigate Brodsky's Sponsor, Goldline
Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) announced yesterday that a hearing will take place next week to discuss legislation to regulate gold-selling companies, such as Goldline, an advertiser on Newshounds. Goldline uses several websites to shill for its precious metal business, including www.newshounds.us. 'Under this proposed legislation, gold dealers will have a much harder time preying upon the nest eggs of vulnerable consumers,' said Weiner. 'It's shameful that companies like Goldline are able to rip off consumers, use misleading and possibly illegal sales tactics, and deliberately manipulate public fears to sell gold coins at inflated prices.'
Note: the preceding was adapted and condensed from an Ellen Brodsky article that made zero mention of Goldline being a Newshounds advertiser."
How does Olby respond to critics of Colbert's appearance in front of the Congressional Committee? By stating, "Said the moron from Fox". He was referring to Gretchen Carlson who said it was "ridiculous" for Colbert to appear.
Ah, gotta love it. It was a two-fer...an attack on Fox News but also fed his misogyny all at once.
BTW, during that segment I watched BOR interview liberal radio host Leslie Marshall who echoed the same statement as Carlson.
I didn't catch that, Brad. I started the video, paused it, and copied and pasted the closed-captioning, making a few edits.
MK, it makes you enlightened. Good on you, sir.
Yean, and you said something about how we remember the guys with the spinning plates on Ed Sullivan.
Sullivan was gone 10 years before Ezra Klein was born. Rachel alludes frequently to their age gap.
I just thought Colbert was making a flat out mockery of the Congressional institution by turning a congressional hearing into one of his late night comedy shows. Sure, you can drop in a couple of funnies here and there, but I didn't even find his funnies... funny.
It puts me in the DK minority once again, but it's not like that's the first time that's been the case.
Actually it was the Democratic Party making a flat out mockery of the Congressional institution through Stephen Colbert.
Someone else accused DOJ of racial motivation in the Black Panther voting case and Colbert just happens to be testifying on the same day? I guess I'm paranoid.
I'll bet those alleged news programs at 6:30 didn't even touch the latter.
Thought you guys might get a good laugh out of this:
http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2010/09/24/bill-press-beck-hannity-limbaugh-oreilly-cowards-never-allow-opposing-views
Bill Press on Fat Ed's show: "Have ever heard anybody or seen anybody who disagrees on Glenn Beck or Bill O'Reilly or Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity? No. They're all bullies, they're all cowards, they're all alike."
Um, OK. I'll let you guys decide if that was an outright LIE.
Why didn't Mr. Press mention Keith Olbermann? Then it would have been the truth.
Dave Weigel disagreed with Olbermann at least once, just so you know.
As J$ has said in the past, it's left disagreeing with lefter, or lefter disagreeing with leftest. He still doesn't have anyone from the right on unless it's because they're in agreement.
Dave Weigel may have been a libertarian in the past, but he doesn't come off that way now.
Bill Press has had a long history of getting it wrong/outright lying! Ever since his glory days on "Crossfire". Back then he was a joke, now he's even worse.
In other news. Democrats at the Courier-Journal has finally massaged the polls enough to have Democrat Jack Conway with Republican Rand Paul in the Ky Senate Race. Expect Olby to crow about it on Monday.
