From Politico:
MSNBC host Keith Olbermann made campaign contributions to two Arizona members of Congress and failed Kentucky Senate candidate Jack Conway ahead of Tuesday's election -- a potential violation of NBC ethics policies.
From Mediaite:
Whether Olbermann told his bosses about the donation before it happened will be key, but regardless, this act should evaporate any final appearance of objectivity by the MSNBC host.
From David Zurawik:
And this is the guy, Olbermann, who was on Twitter yesterday blasting away at me because I was critical of MSNBC's outrageous behavior on election night....If management of NBC News won't step and say something about the kind of behavior that took place on MSNBC on election night, maybe it will now enforce one of the most basic standards of journalistic independence and not let Olbermann skate on this egregious violation of policy.
UPDATE! Mediaite: Keith Olbermann suspended indefinitely! Developing...

"Help Us ObiWUSS-Kenobi, You're Our Only Hope!!!"
Of course we know what is going to happen - they will attack Fox News, the Chamber of Commerce, etc. and do absolutely nothing to Olbermoron. At least until Comcast takes over.
Hypocrisy at it's best.
My guess is they'll probably go with the 4th option, which has a chance to succeed if the other channels don't pick up the story.
Why does the countdown clock on his contract not read hours away from expiration?
Seriously I've been researching and his contract with AMESSnbc is set to expire sometime in 2013.....Does anyone have anymore info?
I just saw the same thing. I knew he got an extension after the 2008 election but I thought it was only for a couple of years, not five.
J$, please clarify.
It's a hilarious story that Olby got caught but MSNBC will not do anything to him. It's just another instance (#2,145) of Olby's hypocrisy. Is he that stupid to think he would not get caught...wait, don't answer that.

The Domino's start to fall.....
Great follow up to the Nov landslide.
ENOUGH RESIGN!!!!
So maybe his decision to end WPitW wasn't solely because of Stewart. He probably realized that he had already been caught and had to save face to save his job. Of course, it is confusing that MSNBC allowed him to do election night coverage as a news anchor if they were aware of these donations prior to Tuesday night.
I guess this might really be the end of Edward R. Olbermann. It certainly gives NBC news a justification to axe a program whose ratings have been stagnant while all other programs have been improving.
Mr.Olberman...HAVE YOU NO SHAAAME!!
oops you dont!
now you dont have a job either !
and thus the god of karma sent forth his pit bull dog fluffykins to 30 Rock and thus did fluffykins take a HUGE chomp out of bathtub boys butt! as security led keith out the door
I'm a little surprised that they suspended the guy...the liberals at Huffington Post are having a meltdown and organizing a boycott of MSNBC, LOL. One question - was he "frog marched" out the door?
From what I understand he was dragged out screaming I OWN YOUR NETWORK !!! I OWN YOU !!! then he started to talk in tounges and singing "my boy lollypop", afterwards he broke free and ran through the street until some alert zookeeper shot him with a tranquilzer dart thinking he was an escaped rhino in heat . lol
He gave cash to Democrats at will,
Then became their personal shill,
Now Keith's been fired,
Won't get rehired,
And MSNBC's caught holding the bill.
Think of the billions of dollars MSNBC will lose with no Keith, lol
Indefinitely is pretty much close to being fired. And such quick action from Phil. Looks like he either found the photos Keith had of him, or he's trying to keep his job before Comcast cleans house by doing a little bit of house cleaning himself.
Eagerly awaiting tweets explaining how this is a Republican plot to shut him up.
Yes, I was thinking the same thing. Please, keep us updated on tweets. By the way, there are also several media articles about how Matthews was humiliated on air by Bachmann, and why MSNBC had 4 liberal commentators anchor election coverage. MSNBC announced Chris Hayes was going to take over Countdown. I was hoping it would be Olbermann's nephew Maddow.

"And thus I clothe my naked villainy with old odd ends stolen forth from holy writ and seem a saint when most I play the devil"--Keith Olbermann.
I think I'll try my hand at a limerick:
Between spreading his hate
He decides to donate
To the Dem party
He will be sorry
When Comcast rules his fate
I realize it's a lot like yours tonyome but I started writing mine before yours was posted, I promise.
By my read, it looks as though the execs were waiting for the right excuse to finally get rid of him. No one can stand him to begin with. They just needed the legal justification.
They're probably testing the waters with COMCAST around the corner. If there isn't too much flak, they'll let him go for good.
Should be an interesting drama in the next few weeks. Jolly good. Not sure how Olby's ego will cope. Like I said, should be interesting drama!
Olbermannwatch ratings will go through the roof!
