Tomorrow...tomorrow...it's only a day away. The frenzied panting of the Olbyloons will reach a orgiastic climax in just about 24 hours from now. The premiere of Countdown 2.0 on the community-access channel Current is set to revolutionize television. Dispensing with false humility (or any other kind), Edward R Olbermann will actually have an enlarged photograph of Murrow decorating his set. Ever the master of subtlety.
Use this space to give us your pre-premiere predictions, ratings speculations, and (if you like) best wishes to the infamous, deplorable one. And come back 24 hours from now to share your instant reactions to Keith Olbermann's march to marginalization.
Comments are open!
To celebrate Olbermann's new show, I decided to invite an old friend.
After a six month hiatus, MKDAWUSS' Board of Lies and Ignorance is back! And don't think she wasn't paying attention to Carlos this whole time:
-This is the tenth day since MKDAWUSS ignored the fact that Anthony Weiner lied to several journalists and allowed others to smear Andrew Breitbart in order to salvage his own reputation.
-This is the forty-eighth day since MKDAWUSS ignored Olbermann’s hypocritical Twitter comments regarding Fox News and the death of Osama bin Laden.
-This is the sixty-sixth day since MKDAWUSS said, “I didn't think he'd stoop to that low a level,” regarding Olbermann’s comments on S.E. Cupp.
-This is the eighty eighth day since MKDAWUSS said “KO is still doing the work that most of the media won't do: Ask the tough questions regardless of who's being asked.”
-This is the one hundred and fifty-third day since MKDAWUSS said "Give him (Olbermann) credit for trying to be the bigger man and attempt to be part of the solution and not the problem," regarding the increased vitriol in this country. Two days later, Olbermann called Joe Lieberman a "delusional liar".
-This is the one hundred and sixtieth day since MKDAWUSS called for someone to take "responsibility" for the "media-political climate" that has been created.
-This is the one hundred and sixtieth since MKDAWUSS said "maybe" when asked if Olbermann should distance himself from the title of his book 63 minutes after he called for someone to take some "responsibility" for the "media-political climate" that has been created.
-This is the one hundred and sixtieth since MKDAWUSS claimed that Keith Olbermann, the Daily Kos and Media Matters for America are "credible" and "honest" sources.
-This is the one hundred and sixtieth day since MKDAWUSS failed to name five conservatives blaming liberals for the Tuscon massacre.
-This is the one hundred and sixtieth day since MKDAWUSS told me Kossack BoyBlue apologized 54 minutes after he said the left "wasn't buying" the condolences of Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachmann.
-This is the one hundred and sixtieth day since MKDAWUSS said he wasn't sure if Loughner's massacre was "politically motivated".
-This is the one hundred and seventy-eighth day since MKDAWUSS ignored Johnny Dollar's post concerning Olbermann's lie about Bill O'Reilly stealing someone's seat.
-This is the one hundred and seventy-eighth day since MKDAWUSS ignored Johnny Dollar's comments concerning Olbermann's lie about NBC's football ratings.
-This is one hundred and eighty-fourth day since MKDAWUSS failed to acknowledge Keith Olbermann's comments and cowardice regarding the Assange rape case and subsequent Twitter ban issue.
-This is the one hundred and eighty-fourth day since MKDAWUSS failed to bring up a legitimate criticism of Bristol Palin.
-This is the one hundred and eighty-fifth day since MKDAWUSS accused the regulars of Olbermann Watch of trashing Mr. Olbermann the father without evidence.
-This is the one hundred and eighty-fifth day since MKDAWUSS accused the regulars of Olbermann Watch of trashing Mrs. Olbermann without evidence.
-This is the one hundred and eighty-eighth day since MKDAWUSS failed to explain how this:
http://mediamatters.org/research/201012090001
is an example of Glenn Beck using a "stupid Nazi comparison". And no MKDAWUSS, keywording "Nazi" and throwing in your opinion of context is not an explanation.
-This is the one hundred and ninetieth day since MKDAWUSS insinuated that "Pitchforks and Torches" is a better seller than conservative books because there were no copies of it available at his bookstore.
-This is the one hundred and ninety-fourth day since MKDAWUSS accused the members of Olbermann Watch of "dodging questions".
Dear God, I hope someone posts WPITW online so I can return my WPITW abstract.
But for my predictions....
5. HOW DARE BOHNER PLAY GOLF THIS WEEKEND! (never mind he played with POTUS and VPOTUS). WHERE ARE THE JOBS, MR. SPEAKER!
4. Republican sex scandals, with special corespondent, the just hired to Current TONY WEINER!
3. Netroots convention VS. RIGHT NOW convention. With Markos Molieautus.
2. WPITW (in no particular order) Hannity, Becks and BILL-O!
1. Algore welcomes Keith to public access.
Awwww....crap!!!!! I forgot to mark my calendar and I've all ready got an appointment penciled in. Dang!!!! I wish this appointment wasn't so important but I just have to watch and make sure Orion comes up in it's proper place and I'm trying to fit in Watching the grass grow.
Does anyone really care that this dufus is back on tv??
Awwww crap!!!!!
I forgot to mark my calendar and I already have an appointment scheduled. Yep, it's my turn to make sure the Moon comes up and passes in it's proper orbit.
Maybe next time Keithy..... NOT!!!
Sure hope someone can stomach the 'thing' and let us know what happens. Sorry but I just can't do it.
Of course, Syn, nailed the Al Gore introduction. I'm thankful I don't have Current and won't be able to watch the smug Olbermann bask in Al Gore's evaluation of his future at Current. By the way, Al Gore didn't do a damn thing as the Vice President of the United States, and since, he lost an election (fairly) and robbed the world of millions of dollars by pushing a fictional approach to the causes of Global Warming. Why on earth would anyone praise this man as much as Liberals do? He should be hated for being a liar, a thief and a moron...
I'm guessing they push 100K in viewers for his first night, which may rise to somewhere between two and three hundred thousand in the coming months as places like the Kos and HuffPo push wildly to increase his viewership, but I doubt he'll ever reach any higher. Then, once the fuss is over, and his nightly bullshit becomes the nightly bullshit it was at MSNBC, only the weak and stupid (his followers) will be left to contribute to his ratings. This will last for as long as Al Gore can support it financially. He'll bring in a few others, Maddow, Weiner, whatever, but they won't help, it'll be Air America for TV, and a complete and utter failure.
Mark my words my friends...this is the beginning of the end for Keith Olbermann. Following his demise at Current, he'll have no where to go, and no one to support his narcissistic ways. I'm sure he'll breach the boundaries of decency on several occasions looking for a story or two to increase his viewership, but it's too late. He's done...
I agree Ryder, he won't last too long. Next year is an election year, so that might add some life to his show for a while, but once the election is over, especially if the Democrats lose again, his show won't last. Also, look for him and his supporters to greatly over-exaggerate his viewers. They'll start counting internet views as television viewers, etc. But remember, the number of viewers doesn't really matter does it? What advertisers are going to spend money on Current TV?
I wouldn't spend money there, even if viewership was high. As for whether or not he will succeed, a poll at the Politico suggest he faces an uphill battle:
http://dyn.politico.com/polls/poll_voterresults.cfm?uuid=9E277733-E453-D95B-75ECE6D061F6D63E
55% suggesting that Fox and MSNBC will retain most of their viewership...they will. This idea that Beck and Olbermann will pull so much away from these channels is very self serving. They think that people watch them, and they're the main players. That's certainly not the case.
Definitely, his number of viewers will be a huge plot for this show in the first several months, and as he has done in the past, he will flat out lie about his ratings. It's all he has...
Later gators...
Something to watch for is to see if Olbermann brags about people switching to cable providers that offer Current TV just to watch him. That seems like an easily manipulated statistic.
Something else to watch for in all these stats, numbers, etc, is the use of percentage gains: it's up 80%! It increased 47%! When they talk about percentage increases, it's because they don't want to talk actual numbers, like: It's up 2500 viewers, or subscriptions to Current are up by 1,248.
WRONG-O Ryder! Algore did do something as VP. He broke campaign election law. Remember the buhdist priests? Remember "No controlling legal authority"? How can Olby work for such a criminal.
The sad part is I agree with a lot of the same things tony, syv and ryder said.
What's sad about it is Olbermann has a chance to prove everyone wrong and be a true flagship for a news channel that needs one.
Instead it'll be same s***, different channel. Piss on Fox. Piss on Beck. Piss on MSNBC. Piss on women. Piss on anyone in the way.
I'm not gonna make any ratings predictions considering no one has ever talked about a channel with so few viewers before. 100k for a channel that averages 18k seems a bit much.
Total viewers for tonight will be between 80,000 and 100,000
As for stories:
5) Olbermann talking about how Olbermann is back being Olbermann on OlbermannTV. What? Oh sorry, CurrentTV starring Olbermann
4) Republicans are assholes for attacking Weiner. Olbermann spends 5 minutes in a slobbering love fest of all things Weiner.
3) Olbermann will show everyone his friends list from facebook, right now that's five people, Markos, Moore, Shuster, Maher and snuffleupagus.
2) Worst persons. 3) Sarah Palin 2) Bill O'Reilly 1) Glenn Beck
1) Olbermann talking about how awsome it is for all of us peons to be able to once again bask in the glory that is Olbermann. Another 5 minute slobbering love fest of all thinks Olbermann
Anyone know of a way to track on-line viewers? I have a feeling that the 80k tv viewers and the online viewers will somehow add up to two million once Olbermann gets his spin on it.
Page counters, but unless they make that information external (ie. YouTube), then the public will be unaware. That information can be very easily manipulated, either by multiple views from the same person, jumping to and from different sites, etc. Information he's bound to manipulate, as you've so stated, Mr. Pewp...
Speaking of, he's already at it. A new video on his site is thanking the fans of his Facebook page, all 100K of them since April 27th, 2011. It's the lamest one minute of internet video since Al Gore invented the damn place; "You like me, you really like me." I ran my face into the closest structure...
The new Countdown is only minutes away. I mean, this guy, this Olbermann, he's sharp. Same title, same segments, same people to bitch about. If I got fired from my old job, and moved to a new one, with more responsibility and direction, and repeated the same mistakes I had before, I wouldn't last long. Come on Keith, you're the self proclaimed intellect who rules the nightly airwaves, give us something fresh, perhaps?
In related news, Keith Olbermann kicks puppies, I saw him do it...
Seems like he would have something to say about the Supreme Court throwing out the discrimination case against Walmart. Part of it was a unanimous 9-0 vote though, so maybe not.
Ahhhh, here's the OlbermannWatch that I used to recognize. You're already sitting here just waiting to take something out of context or distort an action into something it necessarily isn't. OK, so his first segment might be an "I'm back." OK. It's the moment we've been waiting for, haters and fans alike. What's wrong with a little hello and some recapping of the downtime as everyone gets back to their regular schedules that include Keith Olbermann each evening?
I, along with countless others, am glad he's back. His insightful commentary and expert analysis was sorely missed at times during the past several months. Yeah, he had his periodic updates from that apartment, but they were rather infrequent and missed many important subjects, especially when compared to a full-time TV show.
And yeah, the ratings increase may be dramatic at first, especially when placed into a percentage amount (2 one day and 4 the next is a 100% increase), but the significant thing will be how quickly the actual numbers build. In that video thanking his Facebook fans, he mentioned how quickly that number was able to reach its current point. Eventually that increase will drop off (both TV and online), but he'll have a large following at the end of it all. He isn't just developing a TV show, he's developing an entire brand and a TV channel's identity.
I think he'll have a great show tonight, one that's energetic and intellectual, and one that will have OlbermannWatch and John Gibson grasping for anything to bash him with.
For the record I will not be lectured by someone who condones a bunch of liars like Olbermann and Anthony Weiner like MKDAWUSS does.
Anyway, we're just making predictions Carlos. Kind of like how you predicted Maddow would lose viewers and she hasn't.
"...one that will have OlbermannWatch and John Gibson grasping for anything to bash him with."
You mean all those things you ignore? Yeah, those those things.
If you want to keep digging a hole for yourself Carlos I'm happy to help you. From now on silence is consent, so that pretty much makes you a lying, hypocritcal, racist, homophobic, anti-American b**** who hates women until proven otherwise.
Actually, I was thinking maybe we should make a game that revolves around Carlos "The Bigot" Lejjena.
This one's called "Guess The Bigot's Response." Everytime Olbermann says something stupid you have to guess what The Bigot will say.
Here are the choices:
A. "You'll have to ask him (Olbermann) that."
B. "Olbermann always speaks truth to power and asks the questions no one else will ask."
C. Point out something a conservative did by stealing an analogy from the Daily Kos.
D. "What does that matter? It's inconsequential."
E. Just ignore it all together, which, in case you're new here, The Bigot is best at.
Hey Bigot, are your sisters old enough to watch Countdown?
If they are, and when they see Olbermann treat women like Bristol Palin, her mom, Michelle Malkin, Hillary Clinton, S.E. Cupp and Carrie Prejean, what do you tell them?
Oh, I forgot. You have as much contempt for women as Olbermann does. Good thing your mom's not around to see this stuff.
A reminder to all that my insults towards The Bigot are protected under the Golbermann Rule.
LOL - Olbermann announces Ken Burns "will be a Countdown contributor" - but he never asked Ken Burns.
Article: http://finance.yahoo.com/news/At-a-New-Network-Olbermann-nytimes-3688851149.html?x=0&.v=2
Anyone remember when J$ said this:
"Something else to watch for in all these stats, numbers, etc, is the use of percentage gains: it's up 80%! It increased 47%! When they talk about percentage increases, it's because they don't want to talk actual numbers, like: It's up 2500 viewers, or subscriptions to Current are up by 1,248."
Well here's what MKDABIGOT said today:
"(2 one day and 4 the next is a 100% increase)"
Wow Johnny, you weren't kidding.
"...but he never asked Ken Burns."
And then MKDABIGOT wonders where we get all these ideas about Olbermann being a liar from.
I suppose that quote was taken "out of context" too.
E.
LOL -
"Ken Burns, another filmmaker, told The Baltimore Sun that he was surprised to see his name in that announcement as well; Mr. Olbermann has “been a friend for a long time,” Mr. Burns said.
Mr. Burns said that since he lives in New Hampshire, “I don’t know how I become a contributor.”
Current said the contributor arrangements varied by person, and that the announcements were intended to show how wide a range of people will be appearing on the new show."
Come on now, Wuss, we know that part about "intellectual" and "expert analysis" and something about him being "insightful" are all an attempt to get a rise out of us. I'm waiting for "fair" and "honest", maybe "parti....ha"...."Partisa....ahahahaha" "Par.......ti....haha." I can't finish it without a laugh...
Cut the shit Wuss, You can CJ riled up, but the rest of us know that these buzz words don't have anything to do with Olbermann...
I linked to the Baltimore Sun article several days ago Tony...
I'm not riled up. I honestly want to know what MKDABIGOT tells his sisters when they walk in on him watching Countdown and he's trashing women.
And if MKDABIGOT isn't a lying, hypocritcal, racist, homophobic, anti-American b**** who hates women then he should prove it.
I predict he will pull a Conan vs. Leno and make his being fired from MSNBC a running joke. Additionally, like Conan, he will quickly and longwindedly summarize every perceived Rightwing offence/faux pas since his firing.
Sometime during the show, like wuss said, he will go off on some tirade and at the end give a self-gratified "I'm back" or "I still got it" or some equivalent.
I won’t know though because I won’t be watching.
And CJ, as always you are brilliant! Just brilliant!
My predictions:
first 5-10 minutes will be Olby's self abusement..uh i mean amusement talking about himself in the second, third and fourth person
Micheal Moore will bring nothing to the table relavant, thus rhendering him Olby's Andy Richter
Olby slams FOX NEWS
Olby Slams O'Reilly and Beck
Olby names O'Reilly WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD
Olby then does a rant and ends with papers thrown and murrow vomitting
If Becks in is Worsts, it will be Keith admitting that his coming back is what forced Beck of FNC.
It's what Keith needs to feed his ego.
Olby throws a hissy fit before the show, storms off the set in anger, and Algore has to talk him back to the anchor's chair with a few seconds to air.
Just like old times for Old McFatAss.
This is my first comment here in what feels like months.
Luckily, my cable provider, Cablevision, has yet to add Current TV to its channel lineup. But I have a feeling they will cave to their OlbyLoon subscribers before long. So, unless I see internet video, I will be oblivious to the unleashed version of "Countdown."
To paraphrase Neil Cavuto and his off-camera staff when talking about FBN, if you don't get Current TV...DON'T DEMAND IT!
No Current TV here, and I have Comcast. Seeing as the own NBCU, I doubt that I will have it any time soon.
Follwing the live feed on twitter. #countdownKO
5. Mikey Moore
4. John Dean.
So far, seems like old times.
Oh, almost forgot , tomorrow he will then tout the following.....
"Countdown's debut was Current TVs most watched show in the 35-18 age group"
Good luck "Comander Zebo of the planet delusional B 13"
Okay, this is a super abstract Worsts. Until I see the video (link please), this is the best I can do (Twitter feed).
Bronze: Sarah Palin (for god knows what)
Silver: To FIXED news Sunday and Chris Wallace for daring to edit out Bill Sallmon's name in Jon Stewart interview.
GOLD: Some broad that pissed Olby off in a train.
Once I find the video, I'll do a proper worsts.
At #1 is MARKOS! Says the 'serious' republican contenders are in 2016 (meaning Obama wins). And confirmed taht Morning Joe (RINO) Scarborouho had him banned. Finds it funny that the LOW RATED morning show rules MSNBC. Talking to the king of low ratings.
But alas, it's Keith and Narkos, together again, together forever. A love story for the ages.
5 was Moore and Olby talking about Libya. Moore at first equated Obama and Bush on Libya and Iraq respectively but he must have got the dirty eye from Keith as he "corrected" himself by saying Bush lied for evil reasons where Obama lied for altruistic reasons. Moore made sure to kiss Keith's ass.
4 was an attack on Justice Thomas. Basically a non-issue was turned into a 10 minute rant by Olby and John Dean.
Olby: Was what Thomas did illegal?
Dean: No.
Olby: Well we have to fill 10 minutes so let's pretend what he did was wrong.
Dean: Ok Olby, glad to have you back on air *kissing noises*
3 was an attack on Limbaugh, Beck and Levin for doing exactly what they say. Anyone who listens to these three (I listen to Limbaugh and Levin but believe Beck is the same way) they say that they will not commercially support something unless they also use it. So Olby spends time tonight attacking these three for using a service they also promote.
Olby: Is it illegal what Rush, Glenn and Mark are doing?
Politico hack: No
Olby: Well we have to fill 10 minutes so let's pretend what they are doing is wrong.
Politico hack: Ok Keith, is this when I am suppose to kiss your ass?
Olby: Yes
2 was worsts. Palin for copyrighting her name. Fox the network (he might have blamed FNC, not sure) for editing Stewart for naming a Fox exec. Worst was some stupid video about the NY subway which was, believe it or not, the most boring part of the show. Best video ever? If you don't live in NY you most likely won't care
1 was Markos on to discuss conservatives. When you want an expert on you car do you go see a dentist? No. When you want an expert on conservatives do you go to a far left socialist progressive? Yes.
So what I want to know is what will happen first. Will Olbermann have a conservative on his show or will he be canceled? I'd give 100 to 1 odds to anyone who wants to take the conservative first but I doubt I would get any takers.
I don't see cancellation anytime soon. This version of "Countdown" will end when Keith is sick of hosting it. He is finally at a channel where he has total control. No one will muzzle him. He is among ideological friends and doesn't have any ghosts of network news past to constrain him.
He is getting paid 10 million a year. You think he will bring in 10 million dollars worth of revenue? I know Al Gore made over 100 million peddeling his bullshit to you progressive suckers but even he's not stupid enough to keep sinking that much money into a bloviated ass. I give it about 2 years, someone will fund this crap through the next presidential election but when Olby doesn't deliver on getting Obama re-elected they will pull the plug on him.
My bad on the last post, thought I was responding to MCDAWUSS for some reason. I retract the "to you progressive suckers" part but I still think he has two years at his new post.
I'm with both of you guys, if that makes sense.
For Mike C., it seems pretty clear that there are few buffers between Olbermann and ownership, if any. That crack at S.E. Cupp a while back? You know, the one M-Ditty claims was an "attack" and/or "lie" made up by JS? Never would have flown at an established news network.
For pewpers, yes, 10 mil is a huge investment for a borderline irrelevant tv channel, even for a guy who commands that amount of money for speeches. If the ratings go south or don't dramatically improve you might see a change, but I doubt it.
I guess it all depends on ownership's tolerance level for unprofessional behavior and losing money. Guess we're gonna find out.
To the executives at Current (Gore and Hyatt), ratings, revenue and other important aspects of business will become secondary to their ideology. These are men who feel as though their position on important political issues are always right; the only positions that can be had. Any disagreement or counter argument is hate, fallacy or an attempt to attack or discredit. My point here, is that this this mess of a television channel will last as long as the piggy bank makes a sound when you shake it. They still don't understand the nature of politics in this country, the fact that the majority of people in this country consider themselves conservative, the fact that Fox News is the most trusted and popular cable news network in history, the fact that the term Liberal or Progressive makes most people cringe; it just doesn't make sense to them. They have always, and will always assume that they're the enlightened ones, and everyone else has been lied too, that it is their duty to spread the "truth" about Republicans and Conservatives, about big corporations and Wall Street. Until they understand what this country really is, and who the people of this country really are, they will never succeed.
Now, let's all just sit back and enjoy the ride...it won't last much longer.
I forgive you, Pewp. I didn't even see your post until now anyway. Any pro-Olby analysis I provide is purely cynical. I don't want him to succeed, but I know that he will thrive on Current TV because life is unfair.
